yeah. i do hate cable. same here, i do have trouble fighting cable/cyke when im using sent/doom. it’s so hard to get near or even just do a couple of lockdown/blockstun patterns for chipping and for hit confirm. though i’m not saying that i do not know how to use him or so…

when i feel like playing cable+juggz(glitched) and
yet again i’m bored (lol.)
anyways… back again, seems like there really are things that i need to learn about strider. i do have a lot of videos here at home and i watch em’ over and over again trying to figure out why these moves are used and why this one is not. Though most of em’ makes sense, but there are some that doesn’t. here goes… (Yet another question)
Question1: there was a vid [1i pools Tony vs KaiSing] from Preppy’s site wherein Kai did this assist punish thing, you know at around 00:57. Do you (strider players) usually anticipate or try to do setups for this kind of thing? Sort of like anticipating a double snapback for msp… based on what i saw in the vid, it’s easy to see when and what kai did (doom, bomb, reset, orbs etc…). but my question is, how hard is it to do a setup on this? is there a specific one? and easy one? a cheesy/cheap one?
Question2: [Takayuki vs Clockwork] , i forgot where i got this from. Youtube i think. at around 00:50 (the combo i was talking about earlier), clockwork did BirdxxOrbs after. was that bird a sure hit?, i mean does it work everytime? does it work on all characters(except big ones). i tried it a few hours ago and i can’t seem to make it (the bird) hit.
About the punish assist really you just need to catch the assist in orbs but have Strider’s back to the assist. Then towards the end call doom and do a short bomb. I’m NOT sure of the exact timing cause I haven’t been able to get a second controller to test stuff like that, but usually it’s kind of a read and react kind of thing, I’m not sure if you can bait the assist when you have orbs on or what, but mostly I just see the oppurtunity and take it. Cable’s assist is perfect for getting caught in this punish assist cause he goes a good horizontal distance with his AA.
There are counters to this so be careful when you want use this.
hmmm… as of now, I don’t know of any move or glitch that happens 50% of the time. I talked to magnetro the other day about this and he doesn’t know so as strider players, we just have ourselves to count on.
i’ll remember that you said it was 50\50 the next time I fuck around with it. Maybe it’ll get me somewhere but i’m GUESSING that it can be done 100% of the time.
Alright guys, here the dealio with comboability after the clockw0rk throw reset.
Out of the god tier and top tier and pretty much everyone you would even care to use this reset against, only Storm and Tron are hit by both sets of rocks and able to be hit with birdXX orbs afterwards. They take 14 hits, continuous, by both sets of rocks, regardless of how late into the combo you input the throw command or how long before the throw you call Doom.
There are some special cases I’d thought I’d point out as well:
If you perform the reset on Juggernaut, the second wave of rocks will miss him completely and he’ll end up right in the middle of Strider and Doom.
The throw reset does not work on Dhalsim.
Cyclops, for some reason, is the hardest to perform the reset on.
I’d test it out on the rest of the cast but that would be impractical and a waste of time. If they’re top tier or God tier and not Storm or Tron ( that includes Mags, Cable, Sent, Psy, Strider, Doom, Commando, BH, etc…) you cannot combo a bird after opponent flies away from Doom. As Shoult mentioned before, you can follow up in other ways.
Also:
IMO you should always perform, lp, lk, lk, then the launch and teleport. Not only does this give you better footing ( moves Strider closer to the edge of the screen, where this reset works) you get five extra points of damage. On Cable, the ground chain into the launch does 23 damage if you use lp, lk, lk, and only 18 if you use lp, lk. Not much, but the advantage in positioning makes it worth it. It seems easier to perform if you have an extra attack in there, but of course that’s my preference. The throw+ doom’s rocks will do 30 damage collectively, and add in the chip from the second set if they’re not Storm or Tron.
great post. Its good to have the knowledge around for reading because its easy to forget it sometimes. Strider has too many things going on to rememeber everything.
this is my first tourney vid aganist watts(?) at devastation 2008. I won first two matches aganist a msp then a storm/doom/sent lost to a better msp then this guy. I got to the tourney at 10:30am, marvel was to start at 6:00pm but started at 9:00.
