Yeah Chun Li can be tough, but believe it or not Ryu does have advantage, even in ST. If she has stored Super and will mixup between throw or Super, I usually do Shoryuken. It will beat both the throw and the Super. And if you’re getting beat by meaty Neckbreakers (her df RH), the Wiki has a guide to which characters she crosses up and which ones she doesn’t, can’t remember off the top of my head. The Wiki is down right now, but it’ll be back up in a week or two, check it then.

Old ryu have bigger priortys. it not noticable but in rare circumstance. most obvious be malnutritious sim. in case where it might use stand short as detergent to discourage brown man. stand jab better for old ryu here for akward anti air, or beat sim roundhouse etc. although it again repeating it have higher priortys in general besides rare circustance like this not paituclar useful as it to small. so lets us try stay with stand short.

old ryu far stand roundhouse come out closer then new. this allow random combo, such as duck short link stand roundhouse, or duck mp link stand roundhouse. since is cancle we may cancle to hadoken if wish to rock some ass. since far roundhouse as matter of fact ryu fastest move old ryu may use more as awkard punish.

in general idea for many moves is new ryu becomes level up near his butt. And it becomes padlocked. IT IS FOR ROCKING NOT ROCKED. lets explaination. all neutral jumps are more butt armour. most obvious vs character of slide type, and in certain situation such as if want neutral jump attack beat say vega(mbison for amerken noob)pyscho crusher. old ryu most likely lose, new ryu win many case. or say you want neutral jump hit sagat who is try to tiger rape you, old ryu most trade in many best case and get knock down. where if new ryu even get hit, he get hit once on ground, and is not forced to knock down. jump foward normal for many of new ryu. again most noticable when jump over fireball, old ryu may trade, where new ryu less likely in same circumstance. or again vs tiger man if trade new ryu trade on ground while not being knocked down. many of new ryu normal tend hit tiny tad higher as well.

not all lost for OG ryu as it some is all good in the hood. obviously example be neutral jump roundhouse it priorty in general much larger then new. also diagonal jump roundhouse although weak vs slide type whole front of ryu leg invincable. this make very hard for some opponent try resist your rape. lets aim for just putting in the tip and making it good.

note new ryu diff he spin more rotations. may trick or fool but not likely unless like big beard. it feels in genearl that old ryu ground rotations have more valuables. foward and roundhouse are favorable spins in many locations to set up trickery or good spacing! More spin only useful in random situation like vs brownie or maybe when do to escape cross up.

old ryu also have stronger priorty for air hurricane kick.

other then that there is not much special for rememberance other then balnaka trickyerys. most obvious how play will do. we will red fireball to burn him crisp accordingly anti air accordingly and footsie with note of above. must watch for sweep and when duck back it change your happy feet distance.

for anti air there is many. sweep, dp, and stand fierce are strong. strand feirce very hard for beast to beat realsticl. when balnka becomes scared of this distance he must respect and you can liberate. from distance of stand fierce if still try jump many but with out attack we can meet balnka in air with air to air attack to still hit.

blanka reversal is weak but fast. we must aim for tip or risk trade if jump. if old ryu we may use jump hk at distance, if new jump hp at distance if must.

one importance hk master feel and since is master master always do u true, when vs character of charge type try play them as well. notice and react when beast move foward . he is no longer charge etc, when he is duck and in take shit stance he is charge, this obvisou clear should be but important remmeber.

we have 3 in specific
SHORYUKEN, stand short, stand strong in these orders and space of match

this 3 in combonation create pad lock on your ass. and very hard for sagat beat in realstic situations. when use of first 2 is well even trading for sagat with this becomes troubled.

shoryuken is most close. although this range we only come into randomly let us try to stay in range where stand short is strongest for majority of match only walking in and out of range where shoryuken and stand strong become strong.

at this mid rangeish where stand short is at its most powerful is your max range sweep which very important if want max fuck. i tell you true, LISTEN

especial if old ryu, let us always consider that tiger pants dp rip off is not like best man. ryu have many realstic situation tiger uppercut can not beat ryu sweep. ryu sweep FOR FREED. Sagat tiger uppercut will go through part of sweep with invincables only to be swept. we must remember this truth in match! for new ryu this distance is not as forgibving and we must stay in truth slight farther then max sweep range. this mean if sagat only block your sweep with new ryu miss. UNFORTUANTE. we must pray sagat do dp as he move foward slightly when do this. then new ryu also will fucker.

you can hear this how well this range is. when sagat is frustation in pants, he may become air type. at this range sagat should have no normal which will beat stand short. and again if we are closer then this range we dp, if we are farther when stand strong.

it does not agree with stand hp, or sweep in general from father in this match, as sagat jump is to quick small. if oppertunity for sweep exposes himself then we may, but for mp range let us try always do mp instead of hp. after it does lets cancel slow fireball to work sagat in corner like coward chicken rape. etc

we wants to slowly work sagat to corner. important remember lead advantage in this match as it may be slow motion in ocean, and trade when can knowing it win in the due time. example of more important trade again concerning old ryu. sagat not have good answer for when does jump roundhouse inserting just the tip. this is unpleasure for sagat at since can not feel full force he may not dp it well, nor normal. for old ryu are thought is we have good chance of beating dp clean at this length and if does lose, sagat is alredy in flight so not as damaging. for new ryu this case is not as large. and in general when only incerting tip it may become unpleasureable to both. we may not hope for totally win, but trade at best is general though.

but again lets use this thought so when is life lead we work down, knowing we can win with trade if need be.

so we have 2 importants here. jump hk, a sweep. we discourage sagat from antiairing or dping, as we have pad lock. this allow us try work in, and liberate are own jump type more.

although sagat is zoneing ryu also strong zone. we widdle him done. it hard make ryu come. to force mistake. hopefully if sagat is zone well only combo sagat land is little one like jump hk far stand hp. he must attack early, and akwardly to break your armour.

when match start we want slowly work sagat corner. we use obviously like hurricane kick over fireball, or duck high tiger rush hp with ryu and of like. if old ryu foward hurricane kick very usefull in setting up your sweet honey spot. even if tiger have you pin in corner. foward hurricane at this distance and you are in your special place most general.

when sagat is corner let us remember special place. we want sagat fear this stand lk to discourage jump, and sweep discourage ground, as we fireball and footsie him. when we move in corner, let us build meter if new ryu more freely. randomly duck short with diff timing to push out sweep, or we can reset match. let us mash duck short, random stand jab for wiff to hope for stutter as we reset mind process. we may at this range also walk back slowly also trying to reset mind process while knowing now is time for stand mp. perhaps we throw it out there for trolling. tiger pants may even jump thinking fireball was coming out , only for us stand mp to fireball his jump attack. if sagat does not attack, is not scared. we walk foward slighyl to sweep again. or if not jump at all and fireball well we hurricane kick back in and we are already once again at happy feet feet range. at this range we may also use more neutral jump hk. this hard for sagat beat, as it beat random sagat frustration attacks, and if he try fireball also tap his knuckles.

if in trouble or if just want let opponent know its there, we may go circus. Once sagat is knock down. CROSS UP HURRICANE KICK. this is exstremyl abusable against sagat. big fucker. He may be big game. but he is big rocked in this situtaion.

although it says true regular cross up not very useful vs tiger pants.

remember also sweep beat sagat stand fierce. also part of happy feet game.

remember keep your reversal strong and be patient. if need more strat go orginal og thead!

Just started playing ST and practicing cr.short x2 super.

I read from the SRK wiki that Ryu’s cr.short x2 xx super will miss half the time. If this happens can the opponent block or reversal through? I see the opponent is still in the “being hit” animation during super freeze.

Why not just learn cr. mk xx super ?

Yes the opponent will be able to block or reversal half the time. You could do:

cr Short, close st Short, cr Short, Super (DGV method)

this will work 100% of the time. Or you can just start with st Short, cr Short, Super if you want to keep it to 2 hits and this will also work 100%.

floyded, if cr. short x 2 works 100% of the time, I think people would use it like Ken’s.

I haven’t tested this extensively, but if you do st. lk, renda cancel into cr. lk, and then renda cancel into super would work because there is no delay between st. lk & cr. lk & super, so opponent cannot recover fast enough.

But it is also hard to hit confirm with st. lk, cr. lk, unless you practice a lot… while cr. lk x2 is a lot easier (which only works with ken’s 100%).

I’ve seen videos of DGV doing that a few times, even he couldn’t control it 100% of the time (like when the opponent blocks, he still continue with super, instead of doing mixup afterwards like people playing ken would do)

You can’t hit-confirm from short kicks, this is Ken-only. The only practical hit-confirm combo into the full super is cross-up aerial (roundhouse, mostly) into cr.strong, then cr.forward into super if it hits. Only works against fat characters, and against a few it will only hit if you do the cr.forward at the first possible frame after crouching strong. The main target would be Gief, but you will not want to cross him up most the time.

Shorts into super hits 50% of the time if you do it with programmable-pad efficiency. IMHO, you should not rely on it.

with the extra cr.short does it mean i have to do it at point blank range?

Yes, you do have to do it at point blank range, but you can do it after a crossup RH on almost all the characters. The close standing Short has to be done very fast, or else you will be pushed back too far and will get a far Short instead. Ken’s Short x2 combo can be done slightly slower, but Ryu’s Short x3 combo has to be done very fast.

DGV pulled off the whole 9 hit combo on Daigo at SB 09, so it is 100% executable. I have also seen DGV mix it up into throw/Shoryuken if the opponent blocks so it is also hit-confirmable.

I can vouch…spend enough time training on Ryu’s cr/st/cr short and it’s a great hit confirm. Wouldn’t recommend always going for super but, the hit confirm makes for a W-O-R-L-D of mixups.

Ryu Links. Basically just raisin some awareness. That and his sf4 links aren’t new really.

(After knockdown) fw hp, hp (cancellable into special.)

J fw mp, st hp (rather difficult timing. Cancels into special)

c lk, c hk (no combo). common. you prob know it.

fw mp, cmk. another common one.

c mp, c mk. can combo from j hk. maybe possible to do two and then c hk.

super, srk. yes, this 3s staple was in st. woot.

J fw mp, cancel first hit into tatsu

or j fw mp, j fw mp, cancel into tatsu. lk tatsu before enemy wakeup for meter.

c hk xx special. this is common on block and on hit by mistake. however it is quite useful on hit if canceled into lk tatsu for meter. block or back off after this though, as it leaves you closer to throw and reversal range. used correctly this can be a good reversal bait, and if you have the meter you can punish with a super or your own combo.

the reason the hc isnt working but for 50 percent of the time could quite possibly be that it is not renda’d. works ok for me. try switching up the height of a few lights.

-old ryu since butt is not pad lock we may lean towards hurricane kick at mid range more. this better in many situation for beat high tiger. where as if does jump hard old ryu butt may be burned! Also old ryu if do hurricane also has change of beat sagat low tiger as well as ryu butt have bigger butt hit so this work more here.

-let us remember in happy feet distance of duck sweep as well this truth. if sagat is stand he may dodge sweep at same distance where a duck will be hit. this is important because in footsie sagat may lean for stand at this important max range. this range is also where sagat stand lk is strong vs ryu duck sweep and have chance of beating it!

But we still may rock. As we must be aware although stand lk now is strong at this range this is also range where it does not combo to fireball! so if sagat do stand lk at this range to beat attack what no, we may reversal shoryuken! he has no true combo from this distance.

if sagat is springy at mid range let us remember we may use akward anti air such as jump hk to discourage his boney legs from becoming worse.

for start of match here is some begins…

-sweep… it may as also walk foward a bit. This is to beat sagat stand hp open.
-lk hurricane
-fireball
-we also have risky jump hp, duck medium, fireball.

Remember we want jump in with hp, or mediums not jump hk at this range. We want dizzy. Know if this combo is hit, sagat is only in need of one more medium for about 5 seconds and he will become instant dizzy.
