You can link a cr. mp after the st. hk, on Fei Long. Seems pretty easy.

Counter-hit st.hk, sweep also works vs Ryu.

In fact, you can do st.hk into sweep vs Fei even when he’s standing (no counter-hit). It’ll even work at the range of a blocked cr.mp, so it’s a potential crouch tech punisher because on counter-hit will combo on him if he’s crouching.

Any tips on f.hp cl.mk xx EX fireball ultra? I don’t understand the difference between when it lands and when it doesn’t. Is it one of those weird ass meaty-in-combo things that aren’t reliable?

Can you usually land cl.mk after a f.hp even if you start out far away? Is there a range where cr.hp xx hp srk won’t connect?

Does anyone actually use cl.hk -> srk to punish?

I use close st.hk, DP to end a match. Other options are usually always better end if both end up killing because they build more meter. But at the end of a match it doesn’t matter. st.hk into DP should mostly be used as a hit-confirm after beating crouch tech or as a hit-confirmable meaty on wake up.

SPS into clost st.mk should always work because close st.mk comes out in 3f and SPS is +4 on hit (2f link, in other words). The weird thing about close st.mk is that even though it moves Ryu forward (you can actually use it to make some x-ups whiff), you have to be close in the first place to use it. So regardless of how far you do the SPS from, you’ll always be in the same position after you cancel close st.mk. Except that there’s no guarantee that you can make it come out in the first place (I haven’t tested all scenarios though). From close up, SPS, cr.mp, st.mk should connect [EDIT: IGNORE THAT. IT DOESN’T WORK.]

If you land SPS from a distance sometimes it’s just better to go for a DP because the link timing changes and even if you connect cr.hp, you might not get the full 2 hits off the hp DP.

I havent ever experienced c.HP missing after SPS.It might at certain distances though.

It’ll whiff from max distance. At just inside max distance, it will hit, but the followup SRK will whiff. Slightly closer than that, both hit, but you only get one hit off the SRK.

I didn’t even know that combo existed out of the corner but after trying it the only problem I seen is that if you land the SPS to far away then you will get far s.MK instead of close.

how do you do a walk-up cr.mk to fireball without doing a shoryuken on accident?

You have to delay the cr.mk or the fireball. Only way.

Do the c.mk with you stick in downback. Not only will it help your timing but more importently its a good habit and the right way to do it.

Why is it , using xbox, when I do a safe jump (sweep, hold up forward then hard kick) against characters without 3fr reversal, guile,rog etc. Ryu will land early…? But when I play ps3, I can do safe jumps immediately after cr.hk??? Is the safe jump timing for ryu after a sweep different for xbox and ps3??

I’m having trouble doing Ryu bnb cr mk into fireball with my TE round 1 stick but i can do it on my controller easily. Is there any tips or something i may be doing wrong on the stick

are you just talking about c.MK to hado and thats it or in a combo?

just the c.MK to hado. For some reason I’m having a really hard time doing it on my stick.

Just make sure you are doing a full quarter circle hitting all the directions needed.If you are make sure you are doing it fast enough.

Haha, finally found a gimmicky use for close st.mp. OS Ultra on a trade!

Because it has a ton of recovery, you can do st.mp on the opponent’s wakeup, and if it trades with a jab you’re looking at a ton frame advantage.

If you do close st.mp, Ultra, the Ultra will not come out on block or whiff (provided you do it quickly enough), but if it trades, you get reversal Ultra which actually combos.

Also I love using ryu a lot but I wanna take him to the next level and really become a threat with him. What things should practice and focus on with Ryu. What are some moves and strategies do you guys use in a match ?.

Zoning and footsies are the most important aspect of Ryu,learn where Hados are safe and where you can throw them and still SRK a jump which varies from character to character.Practice footsies by learning what moves beat what and such.
