It seems there is a divide on this board between making Ryu stronger and keeping him the same.
Imagine if they gave Ryu the Joudan kick back. And lets say it’s a cheap ass move like Sagat’s tiger knee that we could constantly abuse(at a certain range) without the fear of punishment. And the EX version was a Ultra set up as well. Most on this board would probably be against this idea, but I’m all for it

It might be totally random, but that shits happened to me so many times in the past few days, it’s really getting frustrating. It’s such a good EX move, but you just get this random chance to get screwed. Then you go to juggle balrog with it, it hits him one time…you juggle abel with it, it hits him four and sends him to the corner. :lame:

In SFII if you hit cr.hp at point blank, pretty much anyone gets a punish if you don’t cancel into hado, tatsu, or srk.
I’m pretty happy with the way Ryu is now, seems like they got him right. He’s solid in all areas, with no major weaknesses.
Only thing I would like to see is for them to fix EX.Tatsu and maybe Fake Fireball, but even with just the EX.Tatsu fix he’d be great.

I’ve had blockstrings mashed out of by ryu’s shoryuken and it wasn’t out of brilliant timing but talentless mashing. If you have the luxury of being able to have about five ways of comboing into an ultra and mashing big damage out of blockstrings, then this is the last thing to complain about, especially considering EX Tatsu has almost no recovery.
Admittedly though Ryu is pretty much pitch perfect. Sagat isn’t OPed so much as given tools that can be abused hardcore. You can punish Ryus that tatsu all day or shoryuken all day easy, but what about a Sagat that just sits back and tiger shots all day and then uppercuts when someone tries to jump in? Ryus can do that too but it’s rare since you have all the tools to be equally defensive and offensive when necessary, but even high level Sagats have no problem doing this because it’s easy, free damage. You could train a monkey to play this way and the next version shouldn’t reward such ridiculous behavior.
It’s been pretty much confirmed that there’s no such thing as a block string unless you’re doing lp lp lp. Getting reversal dp’ed out of shit is expected in this game so you gotta be wary if you’re not doing air tight strings.
This is a valid complaint because it’s a glitch, I should not be able to be mashed out of an EX tatsu that is hitting someone. What else is there to complain about? You said it yourself “Ryu is pretty much pitch perfect”.
Let me give you an example of why it’s worth complaining about. This happened on sunday. There was a tourney in this dudes basement. During casuals, I’m fighting a balrog. 3rd round, I’m almost dead and he’s around 40%. I get him to the corner and land c.mk xx ex tatsu. Now…this should have ended the round if I linked the ultra after. Instead, Balrog falls out of the tatsu and jabs me twice and I’m out. I was so pissed…had to wait through like 10 guys to play again because there was only one setup.
Make his ultra do more damage and have the most damaging parts of it at the start so as to avoid damage scaling.

LP shoryuken shouldn’t have landing recovery frames. It doesn’t really do much damage.
Also allow Ryu to link overhead into DP.
Sweep should be cancel able and put the opponent in a juggleable state.
Some more HP would be nice.
Make Ex tatsu safer.
Give Ryu a new move that replenishes hp at the cost of ex. Every ex bar gives Ryu 25% of his hp back. Too make up for this make it so Ryu earns double the ex for every hadouken cast and double ex everytime it is blocked or hits.

Are you surprised by his joke post? You guys are discussing giving ryu new stuff/decreasing some recovery on moves.
While there are quite a few characters that could benefit much more. Any time spent on dash characters needs to spent on characters that are lacking. Ryu/Sag aren’t lacking anything.
The only legitmate changes that ryu should get are fixing his ex tatsu, and invulnerable frames on dp till he’s lifts into the air, since trading into ultra is retarded.
I really like Ryu the way he is, the only complaint I have is how he looks. I dont like the roided out thing.
The only chars I would change slightly are Zangief(EX fireball should hit the Lariat), Seth and Sagat

make the jumpers to feaar the shoryuken once again. weak dp is THE joke, and the others trade tooo often. Make his anti-air in fact an anti-air. A tatsu that gives ryu “jumping” status would also be cool, to avoid tick throws better. The timming for tick throws in this game is sick, its too effective.
From a game design point of view, its stupid. So what, its just not safe to jump at him once he has ultra because it doesn’t matter if you hit him or not? That’s ridiculous.
