I have a question for you guys. I travel a lot and I was thinking of getting a copy of SF4, Vanilla, for PC so I can play on my laptop on the go. As a Ryu mainer, it’s a bit easier for us since Ryu didn’t change all that much, but even so I was wondering if it’s a good idea.
Are there any glaring disadvantages to doing this? I’m mostly talking just training room stuff, links, cancels, combos, fun stuff like that. The only thing I could think of that would really change is damage on various moves, SRKs have less invc., and they only hit once.
My main goal is just to work on my execution as I feel that’s what’s really holding me back currently. I was just hoping to get you guy’s thoughts on this before I nab a copy of SFIV PC for like 5 bucks
its 5 bucks and it will help your execution. … theres no reason not to get it. Ryu seriously didnt change that much anyway n his combos are nearly exactly the same. hell yeah. i say get it.
FYI for anyone that is interested. I just tested crLPx2,crHp>FB and it is totally safe. Well it is safe from the crHP to fireball. Obviously there is a small gap between the jab and down fierce so if they are going to punish you it will be there. Definetely not during or after the fireball (unless Chun Li has a super) Only tested 2/3rd of the cast but I dont see how the rest would be different.
^ youre at -2 so its pretty much safe yeah, but to get thee you are going via C.FP, which, as you said, is not safe in itself. Still, unless you spam this the opp isnt likely to take a risk between C.LP and C.FP.
Opponent has to be standing. I think you can do it on a crouch opponent when certain conditions apply, somebody can tell you exactly what I dont remember.
Its a viable blockstring, otherwise the BEAST wouldnt be using it. He dont do it often and I am
sure he has a good reason to do so. Maybe when he does it, he already plan to go c.hp and follow
with a combo if it connect but when it dosent he has to make c.hp safe and cancel into fireball.
Maybe its about building metter, c.hp build metter faster I think …
His reason for doing it is to frame trap. If someone is mashing jab or throw tech throw block strings, you can use something like that to counterhit them.
I am not implying its safe I am just saying its a possibility and theres certainly reason
to do it in certain situation. Personally I never do it. I dont think Daigo use it as a frame trap,
But I am not really sure…
Its as unsafe as anything else you decide to follow a jab with, including throw. Im sure everyone knows by now that the only true block string is jabjabjab or LKLKLK. lol
Just curious, how secure is Ryu’s EX Tatsu as a throw bait? Could you potentially reversal EX Tatsu against a throw? I’ve been watching Daigo do “random” EX tatsus on people he’s got cornered, and I’m pretty certain that he does it specifically to throw bait against people he’s conditioned to tech his tic throw attempts.
You cant really “reversal” EX tatsu against a throw you can only bait throw with it. REason is cause you have to be at frame 6 (airborne) of tatsu to avoid being thrown, so if your opponent has frame advantage its not a viable option. If you have frame advantage and momentum it might be worth using, but personall I find it a bit of a waste of metre.
I’m pretty sure c.lk can only be super or special cancelled, it cannot be cancelled/chained into itself. Therefore c.lk xx c.lk does not work…c.lk, c.lk (linked) does work. Because its a link, the link can be broken…hence its not a safe block string.
c.lp on the other hand can be super, special cancelled and can also be cancelled into itself. Therefore c.lp xx c.lp does work and because its a chain, the chain between the two hits cannot be broken…its a safe block string.
c.lk xx c.lp is a valid chain so this is safe also and so too is c.lk xx c.lp xx c.lp.
To summarise:
c.lk xx c.lk xx c.lk - these cannot be chained, only linked, so not a safe blockstring as link can be broken
c.lp xx c.lp xx c.lp - these can be chained so this is a safe blockstring
c.lk xx c.lp xx c.lp - this is a valid chain also and cannot be broken
Block strings containing chains only are safe.
Block strings containing chains and links are unsafe as the links can be broken.
I honestly believed that c.lk could not be chained/cancelled into itself and that it could only be super/special cancelled. Go and look at srk wiki and look at the cancel/ability column next to c.lk and c.lp. c.lp has CH next to it which means ‘chainable’, c.lk doesnt!
Also, which matchup does Diago use c.lk x 3? If its the Rufus matchup then I think its to do with baiting an ex messiah on Rufus wakeup as c.lk has weird hit box vs ex messiah. I remember having a discussion about this after the Evo final where Daigo played Marns’ Rufus.
