Yeah if you watch Daigo’s first money match vs Arturo for example, he ends almost every blockstring with a hadouken, because Arturo was guessing right on almost all his throw / ex hurricane / whatever mixups.
It’s not safe at all, man. Problem is, when taking into account the online community, almost no one playing the game punishes it. There are players out there that will punish it every time if they’re looking for it. I wouldn’t really say to never use it, though. Those players are definitely the minority. Just be aware of it. Make a habit of not canceling to fireballs on max range c.mk pokes.
Lot of Ryu use unsafe c.mk xx hadoken , lot of Akuma , Ken etc . Its hard to Focus at the right time
with all the lag. I do a lot of unsafe too, but I know its a bad habit but I simply get away because its online and
I dont play strong enough player.
Unsafe on block? I’ll have to test it again maybe something has changed in super? If your talking about focusing thru yea thats always been possible but thats why you have to be unpredictable. I’ll just say you are taking a risk chunking a fireball and they are taking a risk trying to focus thru. Saying to never finish with a fireball is like saying never Dp unless you are AA’ing or comboing. Like I said it depends who you are fighting, afaik Abel cant punish (Im almost positive). Maybe he’s an exception? I remember I tested everyone to see who can focus thru but my memory is hazy.
It’s not just focus you need to worry about. There are many specials, ultras and supers that will go through the fireball, too. Basically anything that will punish a fireball, can be done in between the c.mk and fireball to punish, unless you are very close when you land the c.mk. In a block string, it’s almost never safe. As far as I know, everyone in the game has something that will work. Not to mention the fireball is -6 on block, which is punishable depending on range.
I was playing a Strong Guile today like 15 000 bp andhHe was really hurting me with a well time
reverse punch after our Projectiles cancelled each other. I dont understarnd why I could not block it
i tought Recover faster than this once Fireball meet Sonic boom. What kind of strategy would you use to prevent this from happening.
Speaking about Focus throw c.mk xx fireball, I am still wondering what is the best way to do it.
A while ago AKS 216 was recommending foward, Focus, foward.
Tell you the truth I am little confused as whats best…
-After blocking the c.mk , I can hit Focus while holding a defensive positon and hit foward , foward.
-After blocking the c.mk, I can hold my stick in foward position and go Focus and another foward.
-After blocking the c.mk, I can let my stick go to neutral positon and go Focus, foward, foward.
All these 3 methods seem to work but timing is tight especially vs Ryu.
Let me know what you think is best, it seem there isnt a lot of space for errors.
If you are 100% certain that you want FADC forward then aks216 recommendations is probably best: forward(whilst in block stun) > focus > foward.
I’ve found this to be quicker then focus > forward > forward.
Do you have the video recorded of the match? It would be good to analyse how the Guile player was setting you up for this. It seems to be as though you were either doing one of the following:
a) having a fireball v sboom battle at the wrong range; or
b) you were allowing him to throw a slow sonic boom for mid range and walk behind his boom and hit you with reverse punch as soon as you fireballed to cancel the boom
From certain ranges, it is sometimes best to simply block the boom and any follow up attack rather then trying to take it on and getting beaten by the frame advantage the boom has vs ryu hadoken.
This is what I use to counter a sonic boom + reverse punch setup. This assumes that after throwing the sboom, Guile is in a standing position or is walking behind his sboom:
a) jump over boom and hit Guile with fierce punch/mk depending on where exactly Guile is
b) jump straight up and use mk on way down to hit any attack
c) Tatsu to fly over the boom and hit Guile whilst he’s setting himself up for reverse punch.
d) block sonic boom and the immediately start focus attack. If he tries his sweep or reverse punch then you focus absorb him and hit him with Level 2/3 focus attack. This can be very risky.
What was the gamertag of this Guile?
I have it recorded on my Xbox where all my matchs are stored up. Have no idea how to upload videos or share it , I am complete nob in those kind of things… but would really like to learn…
I was very surprised to get hit so many times over and over with the turn punch. I will rewatch it tomorow to understand what happen. I play actually 2 match with the guy. In the second match, 1-0 for him, and zero vital for me… He taunt me.
I got out of Stun , Srk , FAdc, Ultra . It was 1-1 and i proceed to win the 2 out 3 as he seem unfocused in the last match.
ps: I just start watching my match 2 days ago and it seem a great learning tool to see you actually play.
The quickest way to upload the video is to record it using an iphone and then posting it to youtube. The video recording isnt going to be brilliant quality but its better then nothing at all.
I agree about the replay channel: battle log feature being a great tool. I watch all the matches I lose on a weekly basis and cringe at the obvious mistakes I make. Being able to see the inputs for both P1 and P2 is very useful too. Its easy watching somebody elses video on youtube and criticising but when you watch your own videos and see the obvious mistakes it makes me sad to realise just how bad I am…sometimes…most of the time.
Hmmmm… glad you reminded me of the boom thing. Imma have to add it to the hado data. Youre basically throwing FBs from the wrong range, or youre throwing an FB in response to him throwing a boom (which you shouldnt do unless full screen or thereabouts). You pretty much have to be throwing your FB before he throw his, otherwise you get -20 frames, which, with walking + the range of the turn punch, equates to about halfscreen.
Ill probs be testing this later to get the absolute data.
Well yea If you are able to focus thru that means you are able to input anything. I was asking if you were talking about punish during the fireball or after a blocked fireball. Afaik you are safe after a blocked fireball. Im gonna test later on today Im almost sure something like crLPx2,crHP>FB would be safe tho I could be wrong.
Last night I took a look at a handfull of matches specifically looking for block strings. Too my surprise there werent hardly any. I guess the better players are good at getting thru blocks. Off the top of my head I only remember one that ended w/ a fireball which was crMP,crHP>FB done by Fuudo. There were many crMK>FB tho. Maybe I took “never end w/ a fireball” too literally(which I have a habit of doing) but I dont think so he even went as far as to call it stupid.
Edit:
Also I dont want to imply that you are always safe. Sometimes players choose not to punish hoping that you keep doing it only to punish you later on. Thats why you pick your spots and you use that to your advantage. Thats why Im not a fan of “never” using something, you have to find a balance between playing instinctively and playing systematically. You got to keep them honest, and by doing so I think it helps you maintain momemtum.
Dagio do a lot of c.mk xx fireball, c.hp xx hado in blockstring.
The important thing as player is probably to rarely use fireball into blockstring to improve as a player.
It can become a very bad habit very fast to end everything with a fireball.
Most Ryu online they use to much fireball into their blockstring, they are on auto- pilot.
im havign trouble cancelling cr.lp into shoryuken, can anyone tell me the input?
i should add that everytime i try to hit the shoryu i get a super instead
Personally I use the shortcut (2,3+LP,2, 3+FP)
… 2 = down 3 = down / forward
there are many shoryuken shortcuts, use just have to be careful when you have super, in a combo i usually hold down forward, do a normal (e.g cr.mp or cr.lp- something good?) then press down forward again followed by a punch- and the srk should come out
another way is to do the shoryuken motion, but halfway through it press punch, (should connect), then press punch again once the srk motion is complete. Sounds Silly? but it works, thats how I do mk into shoryuken.
Exactly. As much as possible, everything you do should have a purpose. In that situation, a fireballs purpose is to reset position and give you space to begin zoning. That’s how I use them anyway. If someone blocks my c.jabs, they’re getting thrown, frame trapped, or I’ll walk backwards to punish a whiff. I only end in fireball if I want them out, and I only want them out if I’m winning, getting my ass beat, or they’re a grappler. I can’t do damage from half a screen away.
