Ryu General Discussion Thread: Frame Data, Strategies, Combos, etc

Is it just me or does ryu seem faster?

any one having trouble cancelling the fireball into super??? I can do SRK cancel Super fine however, I find it very difficult cancel the fireball into super?? in training mode I get qcf+p,qcf+p without any extra inputs but it still never comes out. I attempting it as fast as I can.

hahahahahhaha, ryu’s s far fierce beats zangief’s lariat. HAHAHAHAH. sweeeeeet

You can’t super with a fireball on the screen anymore.

No, you can cancel immediately cancel a fireball into super, cr. fk xx fb xx super is still in the game. You just cannot throw a fireball wait then super. But you can throw a fireball and super cancel immediately.

Does anyone know if you can still link a DP after an overhead in super? I remember it being a tough link but I haven’t been able to get it at all in training mode. :frowning:

EDIT: Well, I switched the training dummy from Dee Jay to Gouken and I got it. (Overhead, LP DP) I guess it’s character specific. Good to know I guess.

You can’t combo the overhead because if they’re crouching it’s +2 on hit, it’s only +3 on hit when they’re standing which is a bit weird.

Actually you can still do this (sorta).
At full screen, if you throw a jab hado, you wait until it hits on the other side, you can super them on reaction.

Pointless, yeah, but at least its there.

overhead combos only work on standing as far as i know.

REALLY close s.strong, you can link into SRK. timing/spacing seem extremely tough, but it might be worthwhile to try cause i do get random close s.strongs. i tried on sakura and hakan, so i don’t know if it’s character specific or not. easier in corner, but works midscreen.

i think pushback is too far for linking c.strong afterwards.

ex hurricane kick beats bison’s ex psycho crusher on wakeup. i didn’t think that was the case in sf4.

I just tested it and yup, you’re right - only standing and only certain characters. That’s pretty pointless. I guess I wont waste my time practicing that one. Thanks guys.

Meaty overhead (2nd frame of the 2nd hit) combos into hp SRK or super on a crouching Ryu. Just tested it. Had the opponent on no block and used the combo hit counter to determine whether it combo’d. With meter this is fairly safe to attempt in a match because either you’re doing SRK FADC ultra or super and both are safe on block.

Does anyone else find it easier to plink HP or HK 1 framers with their middle and index fingers as opposed to ring and middle fingers? I thought the idea was to use each finger exclusively for the different strength attacks i.e. index for Lights, middle for Mediums and ring for Fierce. But I?ve noticed I?m a lot quicker and more accurate using my middle and index fingers to plink.

Frank

Yes. Seeing as the middle finger tends to be longer, it’s probably easier to plink starting with it over other fingers. Not that it would be impossible to learn otherwise.

Is that what you use to plink HP/HK? Or do you main a character that doesn’t require it?

Frank

I don’t think any character requires the plinking of hp and hk more than ryu. f+hp, c.hp and c.mp, c.hk are important bnb one frame links.

I had tried what you mentioned. Assigning each finger on a different button. For straight footsies, I think that’s a great idea. But I find myself falling back to the middle/index plink more often than not for the right edge.

Personnaly I p-link my HP with ring and middle, p-link c.hk with pinky and ring, p-link c.mk with finger and thumb. I use middle and index for c.mp p-link.

Sometimes I think I should harmonise my p-linking instead of using 4 differents combinations.
Dont know what’s best

This is how i do it.

I can’t use the ring finger for the heavy’s, I only use my index and middle finger for everything, I personally just find it easier for me.

Ryu’s alternate rival battle is against Ken, right? Well, what do I have to do to battle him? I tried holding down the all-kicks button (and all three kick buttons individually), but other than that…I’m at a loss. Funny thing is, I managed to get all the other alternate rival battles without having to do anything. What do I have to do?

Fun combo I just discovered, works on the whole cast anywhere on the screen (easier in corner):

Meaty lp.srk > Ultra 1. You need to hit with it as high in the air as you possibly can, you recover with copious amounts of time to super and much less time to land the ultra. Either they get hit by the first 5 hits and bounce out then get hit by the last 3 across the screen or they just take the whole thing to the chest.

Meterless full ultra ^_^.

Meaty LP.SRK in general is an outrageously powerful tool, it stuffs most reversals outside of the exceptionally invincible ones such as Seth’s mp+ uppercuts, Dudley’s Thunderbolt attack. Other than that, it beats out a good 70% of the common go-to reversals given it’s lower body invincibility and 14 active frames that hit low. Done properly, you can link an EX hadouken, super, or ultra off of any meaty LP SRK.

You mean using lp.srk as an antiair and then juggling with U1? Which every SF4 player has known possible since vanilla.
