what means the xx notation?

It means to cancel into.
IE:
cr. forward xx ex haduken
haduken xx super

if you see two things and no ā€œxxā€ itā€™s usually a link
IE:
corner only - ex tatsu, ultra one
corner only - ex haduken, ultra one
anti air clean or anti air trade only - shoryuken (jab version), ultra one

So how big of a deal is this new delayed wake up gonna be for us Ryu players. Does this mean we wonā€™t have to deal with all that vortex bullshit? If so I canā€™t wait because now these assholes will actually have to have skill to beat me!

No, vortex players still have hard knockdown, but weā€™ll se how Ultra plays.

It helps but also hurts Ryu as one of his few mix up options is his hard knockdown safe jump/cross-up from sweep and throw. The vortex characters have multiple options like re-jump dive kicks and such whereas Ryu does notā€¦

I hear tons of things about ryu being an offensive character a footsie character a defensive character can he be played all those ways? & I was wondering whtā€™s the optimal thing i should be doing with ryu playing the casual throw a couple fireballs than dp than repeat what kind of advanced stuff can ryu do? if anybody has any thoughts or ideas feel free to add me on xbl SoO AmaZYN iā€™m not really on here tht much

It varies from character. For example, rushing down Zangief would be suicide.

Anyone else have a hard time pulling off Cr. MK xx EX Fireball FADC Ultra 1?

Hi guys, so I would consider myself a fairly decent and experienced SF player (been playing at what Iā€™d call a ā€œhigh levelā€ I suppose, for many years now, started back with SF2 and blah blah and now onto SF4 since 09), so Iā€™m not a new school or inexperienced player! That probably makes things easier for a lot of you guys :slight_smile:
Iā€™ve been struggling with some matchups in SF4. Iā€™m trying to get back to being as solid as I would have regarded myself in past games but Iā€™m struggling atm with some matchups. I record all my sets and look back on them, but I canā€™t really help myself for some reason, so I thought Iā€™d post up here.
Matchups Iā€™m struggling with at the minute are the DeeJay and Guile matchup. A friend of mine plays these two characters and we had a set last night, I managed to record all of it raw and unedited, so if anyone could maybe take a look or sift through it and give me some critique? That would be amazing!


Things I struggle with are getting in, and also a little with my fireball game. Thereā€™s times at neutral where DeeJay has meter and is sitting on charge and I KNOW if I throw a fireball he can EX sobat/Ultra through. I also cannot jump as I will eat his anti air kick thing, and thatā€™s no good. I usually just try to walk up and cr.mk or poke a little, and try and play footsies, but I kinda feel like my footsies in this match were bad!
Against Guile I do worse, I get reckless and do random tatsus, jump a lot, and never really know how to get the fireball game going or any kind of pressure.
If anyone has taken the time to look at the video or read this then I appreciate it a tonne!

Cr.MK, EX FIREBALL, FADC. At the point of the FADC release your hand to neutral on the stick/pad, then input the Ultra. :slight_smile:

Am srry if this has been asked a bunch of times before, but is there a thread with ryu safe jumps?

3f Safe Jump setup works as Ryu, Ken & Evil Ryu against all shotos:

I watched some of Daigos evil ryu and noticed he was using standking medium kick a lot to hit low attacks Iā€™ve never seen him do this with regular ryuā€™s st.mk. It looks the same what is the difference?

Evil Ryuā€™s far mk has more reach(also moves him forward) and goes over lows. I think it also moves his hurt box(above his waist) further back. I use it to beat neutral jumps and never get hit by them unless Iā€™m too close. But the point is that itā€™s a really good poke, far better than Ryuā€™s version.

Anyone find any phantom changes? I know they said kenā€™s air ex tatsu hits high again, does ryu have anything we could use thatā€™s not listed?

He didnt get squat. Played a bunch last night and he is pretty regular.

Hereā€™s some basic fun we couldnā€™t have in v. 2012! I think we know that 1st hit of EX SRK xx FADC xx anything we could come up with. Hereā€™s what I got. After FADC, LP SRK, EX hadoken. Try it out!

Fun combo: jp.hk, close st.hp, EX SRK, add the other stuff I mentioned. Not bad for 373 dmg.
