Ryu changes in SSFIV thread

Fucking hate lp. shoryu.

I rarely hate a specific move but I fucking hate lp. shoryu.

Well, lp.srk would still be fine for FADC>Ultras that come at the end of a combo.

But if Capcom are trying to balance Ryu’s extensive ultra options by tuning down his ability to counter/pyschic srk > FADC then I think it’s the wrong method.

with sagat’s shitty backdash i can see this happening. ryu did a non-full animation metsu shoryuken.

as a Ryu player the only changes I could request are:

  • Fix the EX Tatsu bug and
  • Improve his backdash which is a joke

Come on. Ryu is fine with his backdash as it is. He’s supposed to be the zoning centric shoto. If someone get’s in your face, just accept it and use your amazing normals and specials to make them back off. Even his joke backdash has invincible frames. Let your character have something that ISNT top tier.

I agree with the Tatsu bug which has been discussed many times, but I think Ryu’s backdash is fine. He already has plenty of options on wake up and he doesn’t even need a better dash considering his footsies/zoning game doesn’t require it at all. Why would you be running away with Ryu?

…Hilarious

I agree. Some of the stuff thats been suggested is pretty hilarious.

There’s also quite a few people joking around and trolling. Don’t take this thread too seriously unless you read more than 3 intelligent posts in a row.

So 74 pages have told me this so far…

Ryu’s the same beast as last year with a 2-hit shoryuken(reminds me of Champ edition SF2 days against Sagat KACCCHU! CHUU!!!..SHOOORYUUUUKKEENNN) and the move that strikes fear with anyone with 50~70% lifebar…The shinsho (metsu?)

I WANT MY DAMN EX MULE KICK.

I can’t wait to play seriously. Whole lotta chin checking in march!

To correct misconception:

a good game IS SUPPOSED to be 5-5 ideally for every match up. With only skill between the players determining the winner. A tier list does not mean that Ryu is stonger than most character.

Match up for ryu is 5-5 only if you consider the game from start to finish.

If I play against balrog for example, I would get away from him and do chip damage to force him to take risk. Once I knock him down, I am going for the rush him to death same old boring strategy day in day out. I almost never ever lose to a balrog these days, unless I get careless in the beginning of game and he start to turtle with the life lead.

Changes to ryu would not make him overpowered, if you think so, then perhaps you have not played against players whom are strong with non-ryu characters much. The other characters are not weak to begin with, and probably is going to get some upgrade as well.

If they are getting upgrades, so should ryu.

Btw, I did not realised that there is actually a similar idea in fake fireball in ST remix as that is the only SF game I didn’t play when I suggest it. Well, if they are getting it due to some dhalsim reaction drill, i do not see why SSFIV should not have it when other charc have similar move, only more damaging.

I certainly do not see that highly skilled non-ryu charc would struggle against a fake fireball. Only the not so skilled probably would. But thats the point isn’t it? Leveling up as a player.

Your character has an all-in-one, hit from the ground-to-sky get-out-of-jail-card move. Starts up extremely fast. It also has startup invincibility frames (without costing you EX), not to mention the LP juggles into an ultra as anti-air. The LP version recovers absurdly fast. The EX version is also an escape tool against a lot of chip deaths.

If that’s not good enough, you can use an EX tatsu to get some breathing room (which happens to give you a free ultra in the corner).

Your character’s regular tatsu recovers extremely fast, and seems to be safe on block against several characters.

You have a crouching 3-frame jab and plethora of jab-confirm combos.

You have the best super in the game.

Besides your huge variety of regular ultra setups, you also get an ultra trade.

What else am I missing? Your low medium kick is something sent from heavens by Ono himself.

Am I done? Nope.

You want a fake fireball. Guess what … you have a fake fireball! It’ll cost you two bars of meter, boo-hoo.

Yeah, if Ryu is that all powerful, why is it still 5-5 in every match up. Just checked tier list in HD remix. Ryu with a fake fireball is not even top tier. Can’t see why people regard it as a killer move.

Why do you need more crap for a character who is supposedly 5-5 with everyone (which is utter bullshit, btw)? If you’re still getting owned, because you just wanna sit back and chuck plasma at folks all day, then that’s your problem, not Ryu’s problem. You’re asking for a fake fireball to specifically deal with characters who currently have ultras that counter fireballs. But what about the characters that don’t have that? You’re giving Ryu a tool to use against them as well. Thank god you don’t work for capcom.

Seeing some of the new Ultras, I guess Capcom is trying to give characters tools to punish fireballs, not to help them.

His fireballs already flow out like water. Why not get better at spacing and timing with your fireballs? Don’t get into a pattern. Throw out a normal move once in a while in a fireball war.

If things are tense at the end of a match, and you have meter, you still have the option of FADC’ing a fireball to free yourself up to react to the opponent.

Do some more research, updated HDR lists have Ryu at potentially Top 2 specifically because of the fake fireball

You are speaking as if other characters would not be getting upgrades. 5-5 now doesnt mean it would be 5-5 if ryu doesnt get any upgrades. If other charc with no ultra to go through fireball have problems dealing with fake fireball, then give them something that they could compete with. What’s the big problem abt that?

fighting game is not about using charc x if you use charc y. As mentioned, ideally every matchup should be tweak to a 5-5 if possible.

Yeah, it’s pretty silly stuff.

Hey, if Ryu gets a fake fireball, then someone like Abel should get a fake ultra. It only works if Abel has ultra meter and he can only cancel it into a lp roll. Oh, he still gets to keep the ultra meter if he cancels it.

BUT

I’m not done yet. Ryu, to counter that crazy new ability (seriously, cancelling an ultra is hella cheap), gets a Fakex2 (fake squared if you will) fireball. Basically, if Ryu does a fake fireball and Abel does an ultra but cancels it, Ryu’s fake fireball turns into a real fireball automatically. Mind games all up ins.

There’s really no reason to have Ryu buffed (unless his light punch SRK recovery get’s nerfed dammit <_<), seeing as even if you miss with it, you can easily hit someone with it if they try to punish with it. Plus he doesn’t have any bad match ups at all. Super easy options to deal with jump in’s 100% of the time, what else could you want :/? He’s more than just a solid character.
