Ryu’s new Ultra should be the size of Dhalsims and the speed of a ex sonic boom and it should zig-zag across the screen!
And for Sakura, seeing as she has a lousy hadouken. She should be able to pick up a gun and some bullets and do Noel from Blazblue’s astral finish… cos after all vega has a mast and a claw and Cody had a knife in the old sf game so Sakura should have a gun and some bullets that will instantly kill K.O them if she picks up both by pressing KKK+PPP together!
Since most folks would rather talk about aesthetics like Ryu’s hair instead of legit suggestions for his gameplay, I guess I’ll follow suit.
His new ultra should be Metsu Spirit Bomb. During the ultra pause, he should be able to input directions. The ultra then fires a huge, Yoga Catastrophe sized projectile that follows those inputs (A la Millia Rage’s Secret Garden).
Hope that’s not bothering anyone…
But on a serious note, how would you suggest bringing back f+mp, sweep? It seems like you’d have to make his sweep way faster or give f+mp a lot more + frames. I can’t see another way, unless they just made it a target combo…
Why would capcom look through this thread? Honesty? Its full of ridculous unfunny comments, and when the game is released and you wonder why ryu is nerfed into trashdom. Look through this thread and think about how you contributed before bashing capcom.
IMO ryu needs nothing, they can give him a new ultra and possible his donkey kick from 3s…outside of that he needs a nerf to trade dp ultra.

I do hope they have someone dedicated to go through every page of each character suggestion thread. If you dig deep enough, each thread has some pretty legit changes (both buffs and nerfs), but the problem is that you have to dig through pages of “Change his hair. It’s not super fabulous enough for me!” or “I can’t win with my top tier, so give him MORE!” posts…
I used to think it was simple to nerf trade DP ultra. Giving it invincibility all the way up would get rid of trade DP, but it would also get rid of clipping uppercut reversal happy folks in the back of the head with a perfectly timed cross up…
I think this is the reason that guys like Azreal and Dime took the time to compile a very concise list of things that top Chun players want changed, and sent it directly to Capcom (they have a hook up I guess).
Of course they used the SSF4 Chun threads to compile that info.
Lets just say that the chun threads are much better than this one.
I guess there are only 2 things I don’t particularly agree with on that Chun post. Otherwise, it looks pretty solid to me.
Can’t complain about the Ryu section, either. Looks pretty solid. Actually, I don’t even think the damage needs to be nerfed. Overall, he’s fine as is.
He’s no Sagat, as far as overall damage output is concerned.
That just came up because folks were mad about Chun stylin’ on them with jab, jab, c.fwd xx EX legs.
I hope they don’t make her jab start up slower. If they do, then they should take out all 3 frame normals. Also, I don’t think her Ultra damage needs to be nerfed if they give it auto juggle connect a la Bison (Dic). She doesn’t do THAT much damage, and the scaling of the c.short, c.short, EX Legs will already nerf the damage anyway.
And LOL at us derailing the ever interesting Ryu Buff thread. I guess we should stop posting about the sexier character in here. We might get EX Joudan Kick, Shoryu FADC Ultra’d or something.
The console characters were all quite evidently not meant to be to good and they were rushed. That’s why all the console characters lack something to their game.
Ryu isn’t op, basic and easy but not op. After low tier gets buffed Ryu probably should stay the same as he is.

I always thought that they were afraid of making the console characters too powerful, that’s why most of them ended up sub par. Since they didn’t get the 6+ months of testing like the arcade characters did, they had to be careful on how they made them.
I do agree that, once everyone is more solidified (I.E., they do what their character was meant to do), Ryu won’t be so bad. He’ll probably still go even with everyone at best, but that’s not a bad scenario at all. Hell, he’s Ryu. That should be his match up ratio in every game.
The only thing I could say Ryu needs is a standing medium and hard kick that have a use. Possibly a reason to use Light and Medium kick air tatsu, too (from what I hear only hard does something…if not my b of course…).
People may argue Ryu’s Ultra is broken or imba. If you’re one of those people, I understand your annoyance (used to be an Abel main), but picture him without it? How could it be replaced and since Metsu Shoryuken and Hadoken are going to be in SSF4 (as far as we assume) how can you fit both into his ‘game’ without tweaking/nerfing/buffing anything to make them work? And picture the characters you play (non-ryu users) and the buffs you’ll most likely receive next patch. Hello mid-tier, is what I believe will be happening for Ryu no doubt, or high mid if his high priority normals stay in tact. Just my thoughts though, people…
At any rate, I’d like to discuss 3 things:
Do you think SSF4 Ryu will be buffed/nerfed/relatively the same in terms of ‘tier’ or ‘strength as a character’
If trade SRK -> Ultra is removed, how do you think A) it will be changed B) what will replace it C) if EX Fireball off trade (and Tatsu/EX Shory) will work
How is Metsu Shoryuken (if you think that it will be his new Ultra) going to be implemented? (things like, will both have a versatile purpose [EX: if Gen does Mantis Super, then he will want to Mantis Ultra also (omit the wake-up-set-up scenarios assosciated with Crane Ultra instead)
