I agree, that would fix the problem. I think in super sf4, most Ryus will pick Ultra II simply because of the reward of landing it is sooo high as opposed to Ultra 1 which has shit damage output but greater versatility. Therefore dp xx fadc xx ultra 2 will hardly be used, but this wont still fix the fact that people can make their dp’s safe by using 2 bars of ex.

This is so not true. People I think people are spoiled by playing with and against Ryu on a basic level that they forget, or don’t realize how solid the guy is in this game. That’s not to say he was OP or too good (although trade DP > Ultra was busted), but he’s just really, REALLY solid. If you play SF4 Ryu like ST Ryu you’ve got a great character.
I hate being lazy but this thread is huge…so I have to ask…How good is Ryu’s 2nd Ultra and what are the possible setups? I mean from what the videos have shown I know its all speculation at this point but still…
That sounds like typical Ryu play. Not making use of any of the shit that really makes him solid and not braindead like his sick ass normals. Ryu and Sagat were good before their shoryus required near zero risk.
Just as an example Ryu is good because he’s got … let’s say 40 things that make him great. While not a single one of the 40 made him “OMG GLK” or OP having access to them makes him great. He can use maybe 15 at many levels of play and get by just fine. Even if you take away 5-10 he’s weakened, but he’s got the other myriad of good things to fall back on. If those 5-10 happened to be within the 15 things you used to get your win suddenly you think he’s “nerfed” or he sucks now, but that isn’t the case. A character like Viper on the other hand may have like 15 -20 good things going for her… and if you don’t use them all well then you ain’t winning.
If he thinks that dp into fadc is only ryu’s game then they don’t know wtf they talking bout.

sigh* i was being dramatic,it was more like a joke ,calm down . but on a serious note dp fadc really lowers the ammount of damage ryu takes on wake up and opens up opportunity for damage. he is solid but he would definatly not be as solid without that

Don’t know what SRK he used, but Juri’s jump in beat it clean. Gets beat by EX dive kick @ 5:35. Trades with j.MK @ 6:49. With a standing normal @ 7:21. Also, a big lack of AA SRK in general throughout the whole match.

FADC does not make it safe to mash DP through a blockstring. You don’t know where the gap will occur in the blockstring and you can’t just input the FADC on reaction. You also can’t mash the FADC input along with the DP.
Also, he really needs the range on his DP for it to be useful as antiair. Otherwise he’d get baited with empty jump/jump attack mixups too easily. Empty jumping already makes your hitbox so small in this game compared to jumping with an attack.
I’ve always been against the DP as a defensive move against ground attacks in any SF game. They could’ve removed his lower body invincibility to fix that. But nerfing it in general like they apparently did so you can’t even use it as AA is stupid.

What the hell are you talking about? It’s ridiculously easy to react and input an FADC, there’s a slight pause on block or on hit.
And you SHOULD be able to bait dp’s more easily. My god, the risk versus reward is so out of wack in this game I can’t believe someone would actually argue otherwise. Don’t you think it actually adds to the game, you know actually having to think about using a move? Simply being able to do it from crouch and the general slower pace of the game makes it already too easy to react to jump-ins.
If you can’t mash an FADC input immediately after a mash shoryu then ur reflexes are ass.
Didn’t say he was that bad. Just that SRK is ass, judging by that vid. I doubt EX Tatsu still does 200, considering the damage reduction across the board.
What a crap Ryu! Why did he keep jumping in/empty jump and then getting thrown (he didnt even try teching the throw) and the stupid focus attacks. I wouldnt use this Ryu to come to a conculsion on how good/bad ryu’s DP’s are as is timing was probably as bad as his play.
Lol, so true, but if you’re like me and you only watched the video to see the ultra dmg and how it was used, skip ahead to 7:55 and start there (The ryu play almost made me quit watching before then). That’s some sick damage for an easy to land anti-air.
@CYBORG COP: FADC on reaction is pretty much what you do normally right? Even easier with 2-hit DP like Ken’s SF4 when you need to wait fora 2nd hit anyways (and Ryu’s new hard dp)
That first hit of Ultra II did monster damage. It seems to have a fast startup, fast enough to Ultra any floaty jumpins e.g. Chun/Dhalsim and in this case, Juri.
