Damn people are going ape shit in here lol. Now imagine if Ryu received a massive nerf like Gen did or something, shit would be hilarious at all the butt hurt. Personally i see a massive shift of Ryu players going to play Ken but thats just me thinking out loud:smokin:
This was definitely one of the more annoying aspects of playing against him with Dictator and Guile.
Ryu should not be able to spam a normal to get around Guile’s step kick, sobat, upside down kick and stand fierce (i.e. all normals meant to hit lows). Not to mention all the jump ins it evades.
Nice play testing capcom…
I’m not saying that it will function properly or it won’t. Can’t say that until the game is out. But when reports say things like “trading with pretty much everything”, it sounds more like the latter. Somersault is usually a good anti-air. Or rather, it’s always been better than it is in SFIV. Scarlet Terror was a great anti-air. We see what happened there (and I hope they fixed that). All I’m saying is that I’m assuming nothing. I’m not putting making DP crappy in this game past them (been done before; look at SFIV Ken).
And another thing: There’s only really one way to make a DP lose to meaties in the first place. Which would be getting rid of at least some of the invincible startup. If that was done, any attack that connects with Ryu’s hitbox during startup will beat it out. Which could lead to not just meaties, but deep jump-ins and quick pokes all beating out or trading with SRK as long as they are in active frames when Ryu does it.
Not saying that it’s going to be that way, but it could be bad.
ryu will still be a bit above ken in terms of tiers. all they really gave ken was what ryu already has, a better fireball, faster sweep, faster dash, and better fp.srk
ryu still wins with faster walkspeed, better j.fk (that thing is godlike), more ultra and super setups, still has a better fireball. so i really dont see any ryu players jumping on the ken bandwagon. there is nothing ken has to offer ryu players besides the stepkick and a flaming uppercut to singe chun li’s pubes.
the bad Ryus who just liked to DP mash/spam and used the DP’s properties as a crutch will probably go to Ken, realize he can’t combo into ultra from everything and then probably settle on Dudley or Rufus. bad players will remain bad players. for the others who stick to Ryu they will probably have to adjust a bit but then realize that the changes aren’t that significant and while he doesn’t quite dominate as he once did he’s still very good all around. this is the entire point of balancing bring the buys back to everyone else’s level.
Wow, that was an unexpected 180. What happened to “yeah top tier Ken, believe it, screw Ryu, suckaas”?
Ken has a decent shot at being as good or better than Ryu in Super. We’ll see.
Ken can FADC into full ultra now and has full invincibility on his feirce srk.
ken has pretty good mixups now with just kara throw and tatsu craziness. Add in untechable knockdown combos with faster sweep, full ultra off fr dp fadc(hint: he does Fr DP alot in combos), Invincible fr. srk anti air that doesnt have to be timed for full ultra, and he can fight fireball wars with better fireballs. He already looks better than vanilla Ryu on paper lol.
Yeah, but that only works if everybody gets balanced out. If you bring a couple characters down to other characters level, but at the same time introduce new characters that are as good, or even better than the old ones, you’re not making any headway. In fact, that can lead to widening the gap, not making a more balanced game.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Balancing is about fixing the entire roster. Just nerfing top tiers because they’re top will not balance a game by itself.
I hear that it’s still only AA and CH FADC. However, with the added Invincibility on it, it makes it so much easier to do.
So Ryu is looking like poop more and more?
Huh? Ken’s MP SRK is a pretty reliable anti-air in SF4. I’m no Ken player, so maybe there’s some quirks to it, but it seems decent to me (for a move that has a small hitbox). Ryu’s DP has this massive arcing hitbox.
One way to make DPs great anti-airs but lose to meaties is to change where Ryu’s hittable box is. Put it at his feet, or at his lower waist, and he loses or trades to low meaty attacks. If he doesn’t have any hittable box on his head or his front shoulder, it’ll still operate just fine as an anti-air.
You’re right in that it could be bad. But I give it such a small chance of being bad that’s it’s fairly negligible. The best anti-air move in SF history, in every game it’s ever been in, will still be a great anti-air move in SSF4, despite early preliminary reports that certain strengths of the move were trading with certain normals in certain non-anti-air situations. This isn’t a terribly bold prediction.
Far from poop. The only difference is not everything isnt so free anymore.
Good question. Depends on which game, I guess. In SF4, hp dp will not trade on the grounded frames. I was able to go into training mode, and get a lp dp to trade on the ground, because it’s got less invincible frames. Did 130 damage. If, in super, he’s got 1-2 less invincible frames on hp dp, it probably will be possible to trade with the ground hit, but the ground hit does shit damage(?). Might end up being like trading a AA jab lol.
What do you guys think about dp trade, ultra being taken out, but dp trade, super staying in? Might end up getting hit with this almost as much as you did ultra…especially with dp being nerfed and ryu blocking instead of doing safe dps.
I’m referring to his HP SRK. As an Anti-Air, it was pretty bad. They fixed it. And it had invincible startup.
Yea, both had 4 frames. Ken’s just had a bad hitbox that some jumping attacks could reach over his fist and hit him in the head on frame 5. Ryu’s fist is right over his head, so this doesn’t happen.
QFT.
Awesome post there.
No you’ll just have to actually learn how to use Ryu.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
My character is balanced now.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Fei is balanced now?? oh… wrong tread :bluu:
I thought Ryu was the most balanced character in SF4. Sounds like he’s not going to be top tier anymore, except i guess everyone else got nerfed too.
