hmmm i see, well has has anyone figured a way to make it work?
ultra 1 probrably does less damage now. thus 1 for combos, 2 for damage/punnishment. and it still looks like lp dp to U1 can hit, you just have to time it better. dude paused for a sec before he activated plus the dp pushed fuerte pretty far horizontally
edit:dont know why better shows up twice here. cant edit it out either.lol
ultra 1 already did low damage, they nerfed it even lower? If they nerfed it to the point where it does the same damage as the partial ultra 2 then ultra 1 is pretty much redundant.
I thought they nerfed all ultra damage?
yes they did, if all recent accounts of the game hold true to release
I guess that is a good thing. I hate that I beat someone down just to get ultra’d and have no life left. Now I wonder if Super and Ultra damage noticeably different as far as damage output.
good question
At least it actually HIT!
If that was Gouken, it would’ve whiffed. Gouken’s is much slower to come out in juggles it seems.
so it looks like the only changes made to Ryu is that he has a 2 hit shoryuken that still knocks down on any hit and his air tatsu distance jumping away has been shortened. Other than that he seems exactly the same.
Anyone else feel disappointed with what they are doing with Ryu in super? Seems like all the other characters got buffs and Ryu is the only one that got nerfed. He’s probably gonna be mid-tier now. Ken got a ton of buffs (according to the Ken thread) and will now be the top shoto in the game. This saddens me.
Maybe people will migrate on to more interesting characters. Net gain!
Isn’t that where an All-Around character should be?
Well all characters should be mid tier if the game were perfectly balanced. What type of character you play shouldn’t dictate their place in the tier list, so just because he is an all-around character doesn’t mean he should be mid-tier. Not that I’d have a problem with mid-tier Ryu (at least people would stop crying about him).
I also very highly doubt Ryu will be mid-tier. He will still be upper tier would be my guess, just based on how the engine works to his advantage.
Ok I’m mostly just mad at all the stuff they gave Ken. I hate that guy and his stupid haircut.
No. It’s all going to come down to his damage output. Sure, it doesn’t look like Ryu got any buffs, but his nerfs don’t seem very significant either, which is exactly what I wanted. As long as his damage is still decent and he still has all his combos, he’ll still be high tier, even if he’s not top.
No. Ideally, everyone should be mid tier. There’s no reason tier placement should be dictated by playstyle. What gave you that idea?
Yeah Ryu will still be upper tier although he may drop a few spots or more in character ranking. But even with a useless Ultra 2, Ultra 1 is still very good. It’s just that we may have to deal with a minor damage nerf if you really can’t FADC the 2nd hit of the fierce SRK. It would have been really nice to get the joudan kick back, I think that move would have been so much more useful SF4 compared to SF3 games.
That’s like the high school quarterback who gets all the chicks and gets straight A’s hating that one guy who has no friends and gets beat by his dad, because he has a lazy eye. Then one day said lazy eye guy manages to make a friend, and Mr. High school quarterback gets jealous.
They nerfed it all and gave it to Makoto ><
Sagat got some nerfs too, but both have kept their utility. Their damage came down slightly. Is U2 actually considered useless? It seems like it has a lot of the same applications as his other ultra with maybe the exception of L. SRK to ultra (maybe) but has more damage.
Really I am not worried about Ryu. My favorites didn’t get taken away, well I assume so anyway.
Usually All-Around characters are exactly what their names sounds like, all-around. All-around means they have average everything. Average damage, comboability, stun, stamina, etc. They usually don’t have anything outstanding from other people, such as the best of a certain attribute, be it damage, range, speed, etc.
Right now Ryu has arguably the best ultra, one of the best pokes in the game, amazing priority on normals, easy comboability, relatively safe EX attacks that are great in their own right, one of the better focus attacks in the game, and more.
The point I’m making is that Ryu is an All-Around character, yet he has the best of alot of worlds. This makes no sense at all from a design standpoint. Why give a character advantages, and no disadvantages? Most characters that have specific advantages also have disadvantages.
Dhalsim - Great range, slow speed, no reversal, limited combo ability
Zangief - Great strength and stamina, slow movement, generally unsafe special attacks.
Vega - Above average movement speed, good range, shenannigans, No reversal, low priority on attacks, relies on EX meter
Note how every advantage a character has, he also has a disadvantage to make up for it. Out of all of Ryu’s advantages, what disadvantage does he have to make up for it? Does this make sense for an All-Around character?
Generally an All-Around character’s only weakness is that they are not the best in any certian field. Right now Ryu is almost the best in everything that really counts (combo potential, amazing ultra, special attacks, Super, frame advantage on normals) This is why Ryu being top tier makes no sense, and is why he belongs in mid / upper-mid tier.
This rant really isn’t about me hating Ryu, but how All-Around characters shouldn’t have the best of any attribute or attack, ever.
