Maybe not KOF, but a “Soulcalibur vs Samurai Shodown+Last Blade” would be killer. 2D or 3D are viable, as long as neither side gets horribly screwed up in whatever transition.
agreed
6 days left and well find out.
Well Ono-san himself said that whatever was coming out is bigger than Street Fighter 4. No other side franchise in capcom is bigger than street fighter. Might be a merging of 2 different games like there is a sort of merging of two different controllers in that pic that was shown.
EDIT: If you really think about the turn of events that have happened during EVO, (which is obvious why would the developer of Tekken and Street Fighter 4 be on the same stage having a staged convo) it quite simply all falls into place. I just want to see how they are going to combine the 2 fighters and make it work. Though they did make Marvel and Capcom work which seemed like a dream to most about 15-16 years ago.
RS did indeed work and all, however how do you still keep strategical values of SF within RS. I mean, take for example, nearly almost all of RS matches were close up, while in the traditional SF gameplay, Long, Mid and Close range were all forms of strategy that was deployed which made for completely unique and character strategies only to them.
In a 3-D realm, it’s difficult to make projectiles very effective, or as effective as in case to a 2-D game. Take for example Guile, his Sonic Boom moving slow, having quick recovery does wonders in a 2-D plane, but on a 3-D plane, I don’t see how it will be just as effective, because due to the limitations in avoiding or getting around it in 2-D, Guile can deploy very powerful options afterward, where as in a RS style, I cannot see that happening at all.
I would even argue that Guile’s projectile being slow would be less effective in a RS format due to the nature of how it plays. However it isn’t just Guile that would be affected by this, you’ll have Sagat, and Ryu as well, along with other projectile characters who utilize long, to mid-range strategies with their projectiles being limited.
Even something like a Shoryuken for example, I don’t see RS characters who have Shoryuken type attacks utilizing it to the same effectiveness as what we see in a more traditional SF game as well, due to the cause that in RS due to it being a 3-D format that most people didn’t jump in a whole lot anyhow, which is one of the main points of a Shoryuken.
I agree that it can somewhat work but I believe it’ll most likely force the issue that everyone will be fighting up close, which to me will remove a lot from the SF strategical format.
Maybe he will make it cross networks so xbox live can play against psn?
That’s not technically possible.
game informer reporting capcom vs namco are two different games one being produced by ono and capcom the other by harada and namco
This is actually a WORSE announcement than SF vs MK (which I didn’t think was possible). At least both of those were 2D with fireballs. It had a chance at transition (even though I’d never want to see it). But this… WTF?
He doesn’t out right deny the rumors though. Between this guy and Kojima I don’t know who’s better at trolling.
…
Namco’s version will likely have Street Fighter characters being redesigned to play like Tekken characters under Tekken rules.
Capcom’s version will likely have Tekken characters being redesigned to play like Street Fighter characters under Street Fighter rules.
That will be why there will be two games - to cater to fans of each series. But if you’re a fan of one and not familar with the other then your familar characters won’t play as they’ve always had done if you play the other company’s version. Your usual Ryu tactics wouldn’t work for Namco’s version of Ryu. A true crossover game which has characters from both companies fighting each other with their own traditional gameplay would need years of development and fine-tuning.
Its best to think of these games as sequels to their respective games with several new characters being added than a merging and combination of gameplay styles. But then this is how I would handle the games. Obviously I don’t know any more than anyone else here.
“But here’s the thing: Ryu’s “gameplay” is apart of his design.” In Street Fighter games.
“No matter how many new moves he’s gain/lost, he’s always had a fireball, dp, and a hurricane kick.” In Street Fighter games.
“Removing any of those moves would damage his character design.” In Street Fighter games.
In Namco’s version, he is a newcomer to the Tekken universe.
You’re still thinking of the characters as tools designed for a specific purpose and nothing more. This is a crossover game, you need to think outside the box of what makes a particular character that character and allow for a complete change to how they usually are. You would of course be correct if this was their own series but this would be characters being made to fit into someone else’s series and playing under that series’ rules. Ryu is a karate expert who practices Ansatsuken with a serious personality and complete dedication towards his training. Namco’s Ryu would still be that same person but as if he had originally been designed as a Tekken character instead. He would probably still do his Dragon Punch and some altered version of his Hurricane Kick; maybe something similar to Kazuya’s spinning kick. He wouldn’t suddenly become a slow heavy hitter nor a quick and nimble character, he’ll still be himself…just “Tekken-ised”. Ask yourself, what made the most memorable characters in the Tekken series special and then how would that be applied to characters from Street Fighter? Namco’s Ryu would be special in that same way, different to how he was special in Street Fighter but still up there with the likes of Jin and Paul. But of course, they could pull out something surprising and actually make it work without disrupting the Tekken characters much.
Likewise in Capcom’s game, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tekken characters started doing special moves that would not be welcome in a usual Tekken game. His standard punches and kicks would be mapped to six buttons. Tekken purists may be taken aback that a usually complicated attack would be mapped to a single button press or two. What if Paul suddenly throwing fireballs, jumping high into the air and doing special moves that took him across the screen quickly? These would completely change the way he plays from the Tekken games. But because its a crossover game, he is going to have to fit in with the Street Fighter cast.
I think a fair amount of unfamilarity on both sides crossing over to the other is to be expected. If you can’t handle Ryu being different, then just play Capcom’s game where he will play just as he did in SSFIV. That will be why each company are said to be doing their own versions - to not upset purists of a particular game and it’s characters. But I would not recommend those same purists playing the other company’s game. They’ll be upset.
Again, this is all guessing. I will be interested to see how much I am right about when/if the games do get revealed this weekend.
Forget I wrote anything
