Rufus Strategy/Combo Thread (because you can't poke forever...)

I played in a tourney with a Rufus mirror match (Granted this was a while ago and I sucked, not that I don’t suck now) and this is pretty much what happened. He got that quick rushdown and killed me. I got the rushdown first once and beat him in a round.

I’ve been winning all the Rufus mirror matches I’ve been playing lately. The key is using the Ex Snake Strike and crouch Fierce to control the match. Rufus is such a fat target, getting full hits from Ex Snake Strike on him is easy. Only go for dive kick rush down when you’re sure you have the frame advantage. If you don’t have meter, vertical jump MK is his best anti-dive kick anti-air. Light snake strike also does wonders in this match up.

On the flip side, if you anticipate a crouch fierce, go for a jump-in fierce.

The match boils down to who understands Rufus’s distance game better. The person who controls distance better will be the one who gets to initiate the dive kick pressure.

Right now, I’m jump vertically upwards whenever I anticipate an Ex Messiah. At worst, I get hit by 1 hit. I’m thinking jump backwards+ fierce might do a better job.

So far in a Rufus on Rufus match, the Focus Attack has been the difference for me.

it does i did that and beat ex messiah, also ultra as an antiair for a non cross up dive kicks wins =P

on the rufus mirror matches…

if you block a messiah kick and they go for the overhead you can hit them with a jump forward roundhouse. rufus is such a fatass that all the hits of a follow-up EX snake strike will connect on him, too. this is good to know since the overhead seems to be the default choice of 99% of players after you block.

Wtf?

Is the timing strict?

why risk predicting high or low when you can just focus, dash up and hit them with the combo of your choosing…

unless its easy timing and not a guess then i dont think it would be worth it.

it’s a calculated risk

and the lk followup is armour breaking, so you gotta be careful with that if they know their shit.

I guess the only 100% safe option is blocking reflexively, but if they’re predictable you stand to gain a good amount of damage with it

Rufus vs. Sagat

I used a meaty EX Messiah Kick on Ken and Ryu and they happened to use wakeup Ultra and Wake up Super respectively.

I beat each of theirs out. EX Messiah may be a good bait tactic.

EX dp beats EX messiah kick:wasted:

I know its happened to me so many times.

:lame:

My super cool tactic is now horrible :frowning:

Does everyone here always use the LIGHT punch for Rufus special move, I only just clocked now that it comes out quite fast compared to the Med & Fierce.
Start-up: 1 & 6 frames hmmm, I’ll try out a few things 2moro morning it actually gives me a reason to use his super abit more instead of always ending it with a Galactic Tornado.

Huh?

I use LP xx LP Tornado all the time if thats what you are saying.

I have never found a use for his super. Not enough damage and you lose all your bar.

I know it takes the whole bar, but in near death situations were both of your health bars are really low and you already know that EX DP beats, EX Messiah clean. A nice little setup into super wouldn’t hurt that much but its still damage.

i was thinking about this earlier today actually

hp-> hp galaxy tornado does 350 points of damage

w/ dive kick & lk link, its 450.

gief’s ultra does 300, & his super does 400.

not only do you do as much damage as a super, but you do a boat load of stun damage too.

super is good, only if you’re finishing him off. 4 bars=4 EX jesus kicks, or a failed jesus kick->retreat.

rufus has higher utility w/ EX imho over super

Those are stun values that you listed not damage.

^
whoops

close hp:100
hp 'nado:40+40+80
total: 260 damage pts.

falcon kick: 90
close lk: 30
total total: 380 pts. though I think it scales down to 319 or 320 something

Yeah I did explain that it would be used for near death situation, that’s why im looking into other available BnB mix-ups instead of the ones he has already.
