Rufus Q&A Thread: Post ALL your questions here!

A delayed LK follow-up will beat/trade with a Tiger uppercut. Chances are the Sagat assumed Rufus was going to perform a delayed LK (because the Sagat player thought that the Rufus player thought that the Sagat player was going to uppercut), so he just sat there and blocked, waiting for his punishable LK follow-up, but when it didn’t happen the Rufus got out scott-free.

It’s them mind-games. It’s part of the reason why people incessantly bitch about EX Messiah - punishing it isn’t straightforward in most cases.

I knew I was missing something. Thank you!!

how do you stop cross overs? i hate that shit.

Keep your feet a little more than shoulder with apart, shift your feet don’t cross them. Stay in front of your guy and take the angle on him if he drives to the hoop. O wait you mean cross-ups? You block the direction the character is jumping from. You can stop it by trying to dash under them as they jump, EX messiah kicking out, or if they cross up late do an EX snake strike.

What inputs do you use for the p-linking of lp…hp…GT???

Hp~mp

what makes ex messiah go over some shotos? how would i go about making rufus miss me everytime?

depending on how they cross you up you can

  1. block correctly (pretty obvious, but some people still can’t block or won’t bother blocking)
  2. dash under
  3. back dash
  4. focus + back dash
  5. d/f+mk to roll under
  6. ex jesus kick
  7. snake strike
  8. c.mp

its not just shotos i think it happens to like chun li, cammy, and c. viper as well. It just happens when rufus does an ex messiah to a crouched shoto whose hitboxes are practically touching rufus when he does it. This causes rufus to get all the hits of the ex messiah in, but the follow up will always miss.

thanks czigga!

Quick question, I couldn’t find any info relating to this in the combo thread OP, so I apologize in advance:

Is it possible to combo into REGULAR (not ex) messiah kick at all? I know the EX combos, but for some reason I can’t find any combos into regular messiah.

no it is not possible to combo into regular messiah kick.

Far HK -> LK Messiah

FA lv2/3, dash, LK messiah ;p I can’t really imagine why anybody would want to do this though. Except maybe a situation when you are midscreen, have two bars and ultra ready and want to kill your opponent, because it’s probably more damaging than just FA into ultra.

Could I just get a quick rundown on the properties and uses of Big Bang Typhoon? I’ve been messing around with it a little, but I was looking for something a little more concrete. Every time I’ve hit it has just been by reading my opponent and catching him on counter hit. The only time I feel like I’ve used it to punish someone was last night when an Akuma played did a jump back air fireball and I sucked him right out of the air with it. By that, I mean that I literally saw him go from moving backwards to being sucked forwards into Rufus.

As I understand it so far, BBT has the following properties:

-Anti-crossup
-Anti-air (as in, if someone jumps away from you, it will suck them in, like I witnessed with the Akuma player)
-Anti-fireball (it either goes through fireballs or absorbs them, I haven’t tested it enough to know which one)
-Huge chip damage
-Cannot be comboed into in any way

Am I missing anything else? Is any of that wrong? As it stands now, it feels like there’s basically no reason to pick SOS against any character with a fireball anymore.

You can combo Ultra 2 from far St. HK
Yes, Ultra 2 is preferred for fireball characters. Most wont throw anything out when you have ultra, allowing you to get in and apply pressure.

I was watching videos of Justin Wong playing Rufus. After doing a jumping hk he followed with a falcon kick instead of doing a snake strike. I noticed that he did it a few of the videos. Does anyone know why and what importance it has?

It’s a reset and mix up tactic
Your opponent will not get knocked down and you can proceed with more dive kicks, throws, pokes, whatever from there.
It’s just another way to keep pressure up

Also, J.Wong is a meter whore and enjoys having enough 3 bars (enough to EX-Messiah FADC). It’s a good way to save/build meter when you have the life lead enough where you don’t need to waste it on EX Snakestrike.

it is a reset and mix up but the main reason he really does it is so charcters that are difficult to get in on dont get pushed across the screen. if you j.rh then ex snake strike sagat you have to go and try to get in on his fireballs all over again so he just dive kick resets so that they stay close. if he’s near the corner you’ll almost always see him do snake strike
