EX-Messiah FADC EX-SnakeStrike: Honda, Balrog, Abel & Rufus

I have a question regarding midscreen tornado xx Ultra I used to play on a pad so I could usually just mash it out and get it about 50-60% of the time, but having recently switched to stick I’m having some trouble with my execution (mainly on P1 side facing right.) So I guess my question is if there’s any surefire way to do the combo?(f.ex buffering QCF at a certain time) since it seems to be a pretty important asset to Rufus’ arsenal.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly you don’t see it used all that often becomes its not always practical unless as a last resort type of thing. Mainly cause if u whiff the characters can reversal ultra you. Most times its not worth the risk, but if I’m going to try it i start mashing all the Ps to get the ultra out asap. Like I do the 2xQCF then mash 3ps. Basically i have pretty random results with it but I do it if I’m fuckin around or have no other options left.

I usually do the whole motion just before the delivers the last blow (the palm strike)and press 3P just after the actual hit, it works for me

Just try to do his ultra so early that if you mess up you will do it too early. Too early is better than too late because it will either come out on the first necessary frame, or it won’t come out at all. Both better than trying to time it and whiffing it.

Not sure how to explain it, I just almost try to time it a frame early just so if I mess up it doesn’t come out.

This isn’t really a rufus specific question, but I’ve noticed that if I’m in the middle of blocking a blockstring from my opponent, and they stop to go for a throw, I can always time the EX-messiash to make their throw whiff and punish them. However, if I don’t have any meter there have been multiple occasions where I"d definitely be pressing the throw button to tech their throw but it doesn’t connect. Is this because EX-messiash has start up invincibility so the window to counter a throw is much larger than the window to tech a throw? Also, If i have no meter should I just be spamming down-back jab+kick (aka option select?)

If you get too obvious with ex messiah vs tick throw your opponent will just bait it and you lose meter or get knocked down in worst case. Don’t mash tech but if you can’t react to it you can always try to time your os tech with their blockstrings so you tech every time they hit you, that way your c.lk won’t come out if you’re in blockstun and you will tech a throw attempt. There are ways to beat this such as delay throw and frame traps but it works out most of the time, against good players you may find yourself at a loss if you os tech too much ^^

How viable is using EX-Messiah for chip-wins? Is there anything that beats it, if timed correctly I mean.

Anything with more invis (Ryus ex srk for example) and anything that avoids it. You can jump back and just j.hk or whatever move is best for that char and beat ex messiah out clean sometimes, teleport moves can of course also avoid ex jesus. If you don’t lk fadc you can get punished by some stuff, like an ultra :expressionless:

im new to rufus gunna start usin him what are some good combos to learn and good advice to a rufus newbie??

hey you should check out the other stickied threads in the rufus forum, they have lots of information regarding combos, match-ups and other tips. Basically you should learn how to apply dive kick pressure with mixing in s.lk s.hp xx HP Galactic Tornado. Also after dive kicks you can go for s.lk to tick throw, or just dive kick and if blocked go for a tick throw.

Knocked down worst case? A blocked messiah kick is a free ultra for most the cast.

Don’t spam throw tech, panicky throw techs are worse than just not teching at all. You sound like you’re trying to tech too early, you have to understand the spacing for a throw/throw tech. If you press it too early you’ll get a normal that may be beaten by throw…

ok i just started rufus and i was wondering what is his best punish from far away( to far to hit hp xx hpGT)

Usually for whiffed SRK’s out of HP range I go for cr. mk -> EX GT. Uses a bar but it’s pretty solid damage and always connects unlike cr.mk -> HP GT

Also depending on the recovery of the move (usually not srk’s) you can use your advantage to just start dive kick mixups

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I was just wondering why Rufus players sometimes use a jumping mk instead of a divekick?

Kindevu does a lot, for example in this match he does it a few times

One reason would be mixup purposes. If someone’s expecting a delayed divekick, doing a J.MK instead works well. J.MK has good priority, I think (can beat out other jump attacks), and I know it can work as an ambiguous crossup in certain situations. So basically, it covers a lot of bases.

Having a really hard time with lk,fp into tornado combo the hard part is linking lk into fp any info or advice on this??? I’m hitting fp fast as I can after lk and only get it less than half the time help a nub out

There is a thread for this but I’ll try my best to answer anyway… You can ‘plink’ lk>hp to get it out more consistently (it makes it a 2-frame link instead of 1 frame, you can do this with all links in the game). You do this basically by pressing lk > hp normally but after hp you add an mp input. You press hp~mp so fast that it’s almost 1 input.

If you are in training mode put on show inputs, if you do this right you will first get your hp input normally then an mp+hp input right after. If you get hp > hp or hp > mp inputs you’re doing it wrong. When you plink correctly you get a wider window to hit your hp.

Other than that little “trick” you just need to practise lots and lots and lots and…

At some distances a dive kick will hit in the front and on some chars allow a combo while at the exact same jump distance an j.mk will be a crossup and combo… It’s a good mixup and good crossup, on some chars it’s a really strong crossup since it combos. It won’t crossup on a Ryu user like Daigo, I think he used it to easier hit his bnb on both block/hit since you don’t need to ‘aim’ as much as with dives and can go right for the hp if it hits. But it does give Ryu more time to do his srk which we all know is not a good thing ^^. As you see Kindevu don’t want to use it when Daigo has his ultra ready.

^^ You have to slow down between the LK and the FP, wait a fraction of a second, then continue. This will increase your efficiency and execution. After you get the timing down you’ll begin to speed up naturally. (this is of course without plinking)
