Hey guys whats up?
I have one question about Rufus jump m.k.
With this move he can do cross up with a lot of options after that. (strong galactic,target combo,light messiah etc.)
But i want to know to which characters this move can be used as a cross up.
I know for sure that Ryu can’t cross up him.
Which other characters can’t cross up?

Also i want you to see some videos with me that i play against a friend with Sagat to tell me your thoughts about my game.When you have the time ofcourse.

Another this you can do, is use a LP SS on wake up. Its a bit risky but if you can predict a grab/ focus it armour breaks and will hit any standing oppnents. (Or at least 95% of them, so far it hits everyone i do it to.) Like I said it IS risky cause you can eat a combo to the face, but if you can predict it feel free to use it, free meter and free damage. Then it scares them from doing that stuff to often.

Sorry for the noobie question but what are some core basics that an aspiring rufus player should know? Like what approach I should take when playing as rufus in a match and how do I implement the dive kick mix-up effectively?

The core basics any Rufus player should know are:

Pokes
His AA, His Air-to-air, his moveset in general.
Dive kick mix up (mastering it along the way)
His ultra links (very vital to Rufus himself)
His combo’s (pretty easy to get the basic ones down.)
His match-up’s (just go to the match-up thread and read things, if you have any questions about that, just post it there or here.)

Symbol Key:

C=Crouch
ST=Standing
J=Jump
LP=Light punch
MP=Medium Punch
HP=Heavy punch
LK=Light kick
MK=Medium Kick
HK/RH=Heavy kick/Roundhouse
DK=Dive kick
SS=Snake strike
GT=Galatic tornado

So lets explain each of these and why there are so good.

Rufus’s Moveset-The Basic moveset you want to know with Rufus’s Specials, his AA, His air-to-air and his ultra.

Special move’s-

Galactic tornado-A great move for multiple reasons. Its not punishable on block but is punishable if they aren’t blocking. It absorbs one fireball and if im right the HP one can absorb two. It pushes your oppnent torward the corner. the EX version sucks your oppnent torwards you. It can lead into ultra.

Messiah kick- The normal version isn’t the best to use. The EX Version is basically god’s left hand. It has something like 10+ invincibility frames. On block or on hit you can do three different follow-ups. The LK follow-up DOES combo with the rest of the messiah, It breaks armour. You can FADC the LK version and lead it into an ulta. The MK follow-up hits low, IT DOES NOT COMBO WITH THE REST OF THE MESSIAH NOR CAN YOU FADC AND IT ALSO DOESN’T BREAK ARMOUR. The HK Follow-up is an overhead. IT DOES NOT COMBO WITH THE REST OF THE MESSIAH NOR CAN YOU FADC AND IT ALSO DOESN’T BREAK ARMOUR.

Snake strike- This is a move that hits in the air. This can be combo’ed off of the J.HK/RH. The LP version of this move his standing oppnents and DOES BREAK ARMOUR. IT DOES NOT LEAD INTO ULTRA.

Rufus’s AA is his C.MP. It is a push and can hit any oppnent coming down on him from the air.

Rufus’s Air-to-air is his J.HK/RH. This move has a great amount of priority in the air. It is also very good! The J.HK/RH can lead into ultra. It can also lead into an EX SS if they are high enough. Basically… if there not like 3 feet off the ground, it works. Otherwise, it skips off. If the EX SS will skip off use the LK version of the SS instead, or just an ultra.

Another Air-to-Air for Rufus is his J.HP, This move is very good. Not only does it have long reach. It can also do more then just that! It can be used to hit Gief out of his lariet. (have to hit his head) It can also lead into combo’s. Much like the DK. It can lead into the Target combo, or a GT combo. Its your choice and the distance you are away from the oppnent.

Rufus’s “Get closer to you” and the Misc. moves-

CF.MK/ 3.MK (3 on the num pad)- This is Rufus’s Roll. A very good move to get close to your oppnent but it can be punished when your rolling torward them. So keep it in mind and use it With caution. This move hits low.

DIVEKICk- Theres no need for me to explain this, i think you know what it does.

ST forward.MK- This is Rufus’s Overhead. You can mix-up with this with a roll, into this, or this, then this again, then a grab. Or this, then a grab. It has invincibility on low moves and even jumps over some special moves!

Next Ill explain Rufus’s Pokes.

Pokes- Rufus pokes are pretty vital just like everything else. it takes each part to make a full Rufus basically. His pokes are you least worries out of all the basic things are to learn how to use the pokes effectivly. So what are his pokes? Well the pokes he has are. ST.MP, C.HP,ST FAR. MK.

ST.MP- A great poke. One of his best at close to medium range. It is very very fast and has low recovery. Its used against most and is GREAT against the Boxer.

C.HP- A Long range poke. Rufus stretches and punches you. Has some start up and A large amount of recovery. This is really only used as a “Hey i can hit this far away to” Move. DO NOT ABUSE THIS OR BECOME PREDICTABLE WITH IT. People can Ultra you from it, and even FA and dash then ultra… Its happened to me. Just use it sometimes when your at far range or if they don’t have ultra.

ST FAR. MK- This is another long ranged Poke. Its has shorter range then the C.HP but it does has a nice range. Its fast and low recover. I dont use this personally So i can’t inform you all about it. Its better to use if there farther away to hit them out of some moves.

ST FAR.HK/RH- Most people won’t tell to much about this being good. Its a very unusual kick. Rufus steps forward and lifts his one foot up. If it connects it will kick them into the air. If it kicks them into the air, you can do another one then an ultra. I personally use this poke because its a very unusual one and it stumps them sometimes. It also has invincibility on some Low hits. The only move i know that hit me was a LK From Bison (Dictator). Im not to sure if it was luck or not but I know the Boxer’s sweep never hit me and others low moves go right through it. Keep in mind it DOES LEAD INTO ULTRA.

Next ill be explaining Rufus’s Ultra links.

Ultra links- This is Rufus’s best option. His ultra links. Unlike others, his ultra does alot of damage. In fact, it does more in a combo then out of a combo! I’ll explain the basic ultra links, then Ill explain the ultra links best used, along with the ones I use the most.

Basic ultra links- Rufus’s Basic ultra links are actually alot more then anyone else.

Target combo- A very useful Ultra link. It can be linked from The Dive kick. It can also be used anywhere on the map, and can even hit people while they are crouched (Full list of who you can and cannot hit while crouched would be in the Combo thread or the data thread.) The moves involved are. LK, HK, Ultra.

Air Ultra- Rufus has a great advantage in the air. Not only can he do the J.HK/RH Into EX SS. He can also use an ultra after the J.HK/RH. This is a very good ultra link for air-to- air, especially since Rufus’s Air-to-air is very good! The Moves involved are. J.HK/RH, Ultra.

FADC- You can do this VIA Messaih. The normal messiah isn’t the best but If you do happen to land it you can FA into the ultra. A better thing to use though is the EX Messiah. Not only is this move basically god’s left hand. If you do connect with this move, you can FADC Right into an ultra. THis is a very good move and can be used anywhere on the map. IF IT IS USED IN A CORNER you MUST FADC backwards rather then forward. IF YOUR ANYWHERE OTHER THEN THE CORNER you dash forward. Moves used for this ultra. EX Messiah, FADC, Ultra. (YOU NEED 3 BARS OF EX FOR THIS, 2 for normal messiah.)

Corner ultra’s

Galactic tornado- Rufus’s Galactic tornado (any of them, including EX) can lead into an ultra in the corner. This is a very key move to use as well. You can link it off of a divekick as well. Doing the entire “DK, HP,HP.GT” Combo into ultra. This is the personal one I use. You can do multiple combo’s into GT, If you want me to list those just let me know VIA Another post or something. The moves used for this ultra are. DK, Hp, HP.Galactic Tornado, ultra. (CAN ONLY WORK IN THE CORNER UNLESS DONE ON,The Boxer, Geif Or The Claw.)

The ultra’s I explained above are the Ones basically used by everyone. Or by most.

Now, for the Ultra I use. I use every single one up there. I focus on using MY ultra for only the corner Juggle. I perfer to use the EX SS with the J.HK/RH. For the fact that the EX SS Does so much damage itself. So My ultra is used either in coner juggles or The target combo (usually i do corner juggles though, don’t seem to land the Target combo so much…) I also use A rather unusual one… I use the ST FAR. HK, which will kick them into the air and can lead into an ultra.

Now, ill be telling you about Rufus’s Combo’s.

Rufus’s Combo’s

Most of Rufus’s Combo’s can be linked right from the Dive kick. Ill only explain the ones I use, and then ill just suggest you to the combo thread, since its the best place to find them.

ST.HP, HP.GT- This has got to be one of his best combo’s It does a decent amount of damage and can be linked from the DK. it can also lead into ultra. It CAN hit EVERYONE.

ST.LK,ST.HP,HP.GT- Same as The previous combo, just an added LK Since… the LK is easier to hit confirm from the DK then the HP is. The Combo does about the same amount of damage as the previous combo. It can lead into an ultra.

ST.Lk,ST.LK, C.LP/jab, EX tornado- This can be linked from the DK. I use this because I tend to DK and LK somtimes, so I just do this combo for the free damage and free combo. It scales pretty badly but it can still lead to ultra in the corner.

C.LK OR C.LP/Jab, EX Messiah- I do this alot. I basically DK into this and then a Ex Messiah if it lands. Why? Because, It can lead into a FADC Ultra, or just do a lot of damage.

C.LP/Jab,C.LP/Jab,C.LP/Jab,ST.LP/Jab, ST.MP- This CAN BE LINKED OFF OF A DK. Its Rufus’s basic Jab combo, a great Blockstring like the rest. But it involves just more jabs and all.

Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Rufus’s DIVEKICK MIX-UPS!!!

Rufus’s DK Mix-up’s- Rufus’s best way for rush down HAS to be his DK Mix-up’s.You can do many things with the DK. When you DK you can mix-up with. Another DK, A grab, a block-string, a combo (if it hits). Multiple things, theres many many possibilities. The best way to learn how to master this is through many different mix-up’s to keep your oppnent guessing, and to try to predict your oppnent. Just make sure to not fall into a pattern and not to become predictable with these mix-up’s. Using them more and more shall get you better at the DK mix-up’s. Remember to do Low DK’s when close to people. How I do them is flicking the stick basically. I push up to make him jump and the moment i do that i am already bringing it down to make him DK. Its what i consider “flicking” the stick. You can also do cross up DK’s to scare them sometimes on wake up and all. Along with the Cross-up DK’s and the Low Dk’s you can do normal DK’s from the peak of your jump, to Confuse your oppnents and to stop them from anti airing you sometimes. Just try to do different things you learn along the way.

No problem at all, I think I covered MOST of the Rufus basic’s I’do offer to train you some with my Rufus but… I have no ps3 atm and my 360 is in the Shop. i can’t seem to combo the lk follow up after hitting with mk messiah kick, is it just me or should you be able to?

It actually doesn’t combo, it’s not just you.

It does combo, but you have to hit lk before the initial part of the messiah kick hits. For example you medium messiah kick over a fireball that you know will hit, you hit lk before the messiah kick hits your opponent and the lk follow up will hit.

the Lk follow.up doesnt combo after MK messiah…kinda dumb if you ask me but, its there

Surprising to know that.

Just picked up Rufus for fun. I have no problem doing the s.lk > s.hp link but i can’t get the short jab jab jab into ex galactic tornado. Is there a timing thing that I’m not getting? I understand it is supposed to be linked but I just can’t seem to get it.

Try doing short jab jab pause jab ex GT. If your opponent is standing i find it easier to do c.lk c.lp s.lp c.lp ex GT, but that’s just me. The latter combo seems to just flow and if you’re feelin yourself its a really easy go to combo.

why is the Jesus kick called that ?

That made me laugh when I heard it for the first time

cuz the name of the move is kyuuseishu kick = messiah kick

so messiah = Jesus

one thing ive noticed, havnt faced many ppl in G1 as rufus. I use him for fun, because he has some great potential.
But in G1 hes nowhere to be found.
