Rufus Q&A Thread: Post ALL your questions here!

No the LK > HP link, using the MP to plink it. A design flaw of the fightpad is that it uses the button layout of an arcade stick, but that doesn’t work because with a stick you can use all of your fingers. With this you’re limited to just rushing your thumb across all 6 buttons and it can make it awkward for things like plinking.

I recently switched to stick after using fightpads since SFIV came out mainly because I was onto my 4th or 5th pad (they break quite easily, at least when I use them anyway…) but also partly because it’s hard to plink with them. I went through a phase of plinking with the shoulder button set to all three punches which works but it felt really awkward so I stopped :frowning:

Feel the woes of playing on pad!

Lol, they do. The pad on mine is having a few problems with diagonals…

By plinking with 3P do you mean you can do LK, HP~3P as a legit plink? If so that would feel much more comfortable for me.

Not sure, I’ve only recently started looking into plinking because like I said it’s not really practical on pad, so I could be wrong and all I was doing was essentially double tapping but whatever I was doing it did improve my accuracy. At least it did in training mode anyway as I found it too awkward to implement in an actual match so I gave up on it

Hi Guys. How can I mixup my opponents after landing an air reset with a divekick? How useful is that? Why sometimes I saw pro gamers like Justin Wong choose to land an air-reset instead of massive damage EX Snake Strike after an air j.HK juggle?

Thank you for your time

Good question! Personally I always go for snake strike but I do occasionally reset with divekick if I’m a long way behind in a round and want to try and keep the pressure on. I’m not sure what mixup you can use other than going straight for another dk though really.

I tend to only use air resets on dizzy’s, or if i KNOW the ex ss won’t hit. (sometimes you can tell if a char is too low)

Here’s a setup i like to use in the corner. Instead of crossup mk u can also meaty divekick.

Cool setup, I never thought of doing that thanks

Can some one please help me with this combo i cant ever do it right . Im trying to do rufus’s lk to hp to tornado punch . Its a standard combo but i cant ever do it right ? This is what i have tried dive kick standing lk plink “or try plink” hp/mp into the HP tornado. HOWEVER i always do the ex version instead ?what am i doing wrong please help . thanks shoegazer

For plink, LK > HP~MP xx HP GT (input should look like : mp hp)
____________________________________________( : hp )

EX GT is coming out because of the MP/HP. Turn on input display and make sure you’re just doing QCF+HP. And be careful you’re not holding in MP after plinking it.

It’s a difficult link and you might have seen my post complaining above about how it’s difficult plinking this combo on a fightpad.

i have not seen the link yet an would like too can you share it ? im trying right now thanks for the tips friend

practice doing hp into hpgt and HOLDING the direction forward and make sure ur only pressing hp twice (once for the gt and once for the hp)

thats the same motion ur gonna use for the bnb, its a matter of linking the lk to that motion.

s.lk to mp is a good start, it’s 2 frames instead of a 1 frame link. that’s the reason why plinking works. It gives you a chance to hit it on an extra frame, meaning if you “plink” hp and mp, if you’re off by a frame, the mp will come out.

what are you guy’s go to bnb?
I just picked up rufus this morning and I’m having trouble doing Divekick, lk, hp, HP tornado…

The dumbass st.HP does something else most of the time… :frowning:

what exactly are the button commands for dive kick? and how would Rufus close distance is it solely by using dive kick alone?

dive kick is just df mk while in the air…

theres roll, other jump ins…but the most effective by far is just walk forward and divekick pokes

Can someone list dive kick crossup setups? I only know the one after ex messiah lk ender then jump dive (aim for the other side).

After Ultra midscreen: hp snake strike jump forward dive kick.
After HP GT in the corner: either whiff cs.lk jump forward short divekick, or dash forward jump forward short divekick
After f.throw into corner: whiff cs.hp jump forward divekick at peak.

How do you guys deal with Seth, Akuma, ect. dive kicks? I’m asking because of Seth mainly. It’s too dodgy trying to anti-air him because of how he can mix-up with jump HK and the weird timing. Staying out that range seems impossible since you have to get near him somehow and inevitably that leads to him jumping at you. It’s not exactly a pretty match-up.

You are preaching to the choir dude…once you get knocked down by seth rufus’s life is hell. AA cr.mp just doesn’t work on wakeup, even when they are just dive kicking at you the timing for that is hard, effective if you can get it down though. Backdash doesn’t work on wakeup, Focus backdash doesn’t work, backdash alone doesn’t work, its just crazy. The best option is seriously just to block (as scary as it is) after the dive kick he will have you in a block string and you can either ex messiah him when there is a gap somewhere or backdash/jump out of there. Really the only option i find that occasionally works at beating seth’s jumping shenanigans is just jump back fierce, beats or trades with just about everything. Sometimes you just gotta man up and hold up back mash dat fierce and pray but mostly you just gotta block all day.

As far as akuma goes id say the same thing, just blocking most of his crap and saving meter for when he starts to demon flip you. Its a lot easier against him because messiah works better and because he doesn’t have a command grab. Id just study up on some videos, justin and ricky probably have some technology…

Thats how i feel against seth, dread that matchup more than gief or sagat. Sadly rufus just gets the crap beat out of him when he gets knocked down, as they say the best defense is a good offense.

here are some that may help
