Rufus Q&A Thread: Post ALL your questions here!

Yes but it’s only really viable against a few characters aside from the forward throw ones. Off the top of my head I know that it’s easy to land on Dudley but next to impossible to land on Juri and Viper, I guess they have narrow hit boxes or whatevs…

Does anyone know what Justin is doing right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9KJz_YNNn8M#t=73s

GT, dash, early j.hk

It beats out a wakeup jump but does it beat more? Is there an OS in it?

I am working on trial 23, got the timing down, no sweat. Using an arcade stick. I cannot seem to hit the cr.MK Everytime I do it, I am a hair’s width off his hurtbox for some reason.
I’ve watched Vesper Arcade’s trial a billion times, and I am thinking it’s a 1 frame link, which I should probably plink.
Any other tips to complete this?

Just make sure your jumpin lets you stay as close as possible to your opponent.

I have been but the MP pushes me so far back it’s crazy. I am thinking this is a 1 frame link & I should plink the crMK
I’ve watched VEsper’s hands enough to see he plinks the crMK 'm just trying to confirm this and/or gain info on this trial.

Trials are not important. You should learn how to plink though, you’ll need it for:
s.lk, (s.lk), s.hp xx GT (bnb)

Trials may not be necessarily important, but that combo (s.lp into c.mk xx EX GT) is pretty useful in a real match to get some serious damage off c.lk and c.lp. I’ve seen justin wong use it countless times. It’s also the one combo I haven’t really tried to learn, but I should.

That said, I’m having some trouble with players who like to backdash/ focus backdash after every dive kick, especially those with annoyingly good ones like Rose. What is the best way to deal with that garbage? I can OS cr.hp or something, but for them the risk/reward is always going to favor taking that cr.HP instead of taking my pressure. How do I punish that shit, hard?

I’m still trying to figure out if this is a 1 frame link or something else. scratching head

Well OS sweep doesn’t work on Rose (as well as a handful of other characters) so I don’t think there’s an OS you can use on her but I could be wrong. For other characters like Makoto for example, mixing in meaty divekicks is good for keeping the pressure on.

I’m pretty sure that it’s a 2 framer but not certain. Like StevieWunderbar says st.lp -> cr.mk xx ex gt is a useful combo but it’s nowhere near as difficult as this trial would suggest as it’s very range specific.

On some characters like Ryu/Sakura, the last hit from EX messiah whiffs when they do something like c.lk.

Does anyone have a list on which characters this happens? Cheers

Never really looked into this but I might check it out if no one else has, I’ll post here when I get round to it

This is incorrect. Sweep is the OS you will want to use against Rose for her back dash. You can OS Ultra if you want to, it will work on every option except for the soul throws, although a good Rose won’t do that on her wake up for no reason.

My mistake, for some reason I thought he meant in terms of a ground OS (cr.lp/lk) as this doesn’t work on Rose. Divekick OS sweep works on everyone although like you say there are better options like Ultra or ex gt.

I kept losing to a Honda who spams butt splashes. Is there a way to avoid and punish them because I hate losing to that kind of nonsense and it really throws me off since they can mix-up with it and maintain pressure.

You can focus absorb the butt splashes and punish, unless they are reversal.

Well, you’re gonna want to stay in Rose’s face, and if you OS an EX Galactic Tornado, it’s gonna knock her full screen. I prefer sweep, or Ultra if you feel the need to. Sweep will give you the untechable knock down, and leave her somewhat close to you.

What do you guys do when someone keeps trying to focus your dive kicks? It’s a real momentum killer when you’re suddenly forced to block. Best thing I can think of is use meter to do EX Messiah.

That’s pretty much all you have to do, also EX Galactic Tornado. Up to you if you think the meter is worth the use at that point. They will take damage from the absorbed dive kick and the EX move you choose.

i pretty much always go directly to ex messiah, or i just block the focus (which admittedly can be tough). maybe close/far st.mp would work?

There’s also your target combo which will give you a free ultra.

Anyway, why am I this bad at plinking… my execution is good, but something simple like this I can’t do too consistently without messing up something. I’m not too sure if my button layout is making it more difficult than it should (using SFxT fightpad) but doing the LK, HP plink just feels awkward for me. I usually just do it without plinking because I can do it consistently 9/10 offline. I’m gonna have to improve at it though since plinking online is necesarry with all the delay.

Any fightpad Rufus players here who have any tips? :[

Usually when they focus my dive kicks I have no time to get any move out, except EX Messiah as it’s invincible. I guess what I should ask is how I can adapt and do something different, if there is anything.

Are you saying you plink with LK and HP instead of MP and HP? That would be hella awkward to do.

When I play on stick I just kinda use my index finger and middle finger and raise my index finger slightly so I hit the buttons in quick succession.
