Try pressing hp (hold), quarter circle, then release. The technique’s known as negative edging and may be what suits you best for this. Otherwise, stay cool; you’ll get there eventually.
Your inputs can be read a few frames before the follow up can be done so it’s not much trouble cutting down your inputs to the timing. Mashing won’t improve your confidence but it might link.
Not if the opponent has fast/special anti-airs. You’re often better not doing it at all unless the opponent fell close enough for a cross up dive kick.
If I see the EX messiah get blocked, sometimes I go for a delayed LK followup to be an asshole and try to counter their punish attempt. If I don’t want to leave a gap, then usually I just mash it.
I do notice that if you do HP.GT knockdown and immediately do j.HP, your j.HP will whiff since your opponent hasn’t gotten up yet. With some timing modifications, I’m fairly certain this is possible. Then again I don’t main Rufus so I’m not entirely sure.
After HP Galactic Tornado or sweep, you’ll get safejump timing by doing a tiny step forward. It’s free pressure and allows option selects so go for it.
The only thing you may have to worry about is if your opponent delays their quick rise a little bit to mess up your timing. In that case you may not want to option select in case you get punished.
AFAIK Gen has no invinc wakeup since Vanilla which means u can pretty much do whatever you want on knockdown. His uppercut (the stupid upkicks) can only be punished on the way down (either that or I’m shit). other than that, i just try to go for trades when he jumps in with s hp, and slowly walk him to the corner. I have very little gen exp so I’m sure someone can elaborate
I’m really new to Rufus and i’ve been practicing his combos in the laboratory but a few friends have told me I shouldn’t bother with him. I asked why and they said he was useless in AE and that his damage just isn’t good enough to compete with higher tier characters. I like his style and want to learn him but is it a waste of time? Or should I get as good as I can with him and try to win? Also, any tips would be helpful since i’m new to him
lolwat? His damage is definitely very good, especially when you have U1 stocked. AE may be rushdown based, but high damage output does not make you top tier.
If you like the style of him, go for it. Yun and Yang are similar but expect them to change a lot with the patch; they have less health; they need more complex combos to do similar damage.
Rufus can do the damage and his best combos are simpler; complex ones tend to scale horribly hence do little more damage. He can link into ultra 1 several ways which makes for a 400+ damage combo most matches, especially when he can do it off EX Messiah.
I recently started practicing double taping but I still find doing 2+frame links easier when I plink.
Should I learn how to double tap 2+frame links no matter what or is it ok if I plink them?
(I use a stick)
Air-2-air
j.HP
j.HK (best, puts opponent in juggle state)
nj.HK
Know your combos:
Divekick (low), st.LK, st.HP (1-frame) xx HP Tornado (Rufus’ BNB)
cr.LK, cr.LP, cr.LP (the last cr.LP must be linked) xx EX Tornado (EX-Spender)
j.HP, st.HP xx HP Tornado (Rufus doesn’t always need to use his divekick)
j.HP, cr.MK xx EX Tornado (when the st.HP is too far to connect)
Tornado goes through fireballs.
Neutral jump, divekick over fireballs to close the distance between the opponent and you.
MP Snakestrike can go over fireballs.
Messiah can go over fireballs too, but only use it when you’re confident you’re going to hit the opponent with it.
U2 goes through fireballs.
cr.HP goes under High Tiger Shot from the right distance.
For some reason st.hp into hp tornado doesn’t work for me. Am I doing something wrong? Also for the dive kick bnb it seems impossible to hit. Any tips on that?
For the st.HP to be able to cancel into Tornado it needs to be the close standing version. That’s the one where Rufus keeps his arm close to his body and hits the air above him with his fist.
As for the divekick, you need to hit it low and by that I mean below the waist. The lower you hit your opponent, the more frame advantage you’ll have (i.e. the longer it’ll take for your enemy to get out of hit or blockstun). The best way to hit low with your divekicks is to tri-jump (from close range). You can do that by holding UF and immediately after push your stick into DB + MK. This way Rufus will barely come off the ground, depending on how fast you do it.
If you’re still having trouble hitting low with your divekicks, I recommend you first practice the st.LK into st.HP link without the divekick. Just to make things a little easier on yourself. Also plink the st.HP with MP ~ HP.
Mingo! Wassup dude! Didnt know you played rufus. But anyway I found out you have to hold the joystick towards the opponent during the GT. Btw, we need to play soon.
can someone tell me how to crossup with dive kick consistently …having a headache cuz of it
sometimes i do combo from it and sometimes i can’t …i see ricky ortiz do it often in matches
while i can’t do it in the training room WTF???
