Rufus Q&A Thread: Post ALL your questions here!

When is a good time to use Snake Strike on wake-up (if there is ever a good time)? Personally, I don’t use it but sometimes I’m caught by it when facing other Rufus players (which I never I expect them to do).

Also, how do you beat Akuma’s fs.HK?

Crouch and punish. 2nd hit of double kick whiffs on Rufus crouching in some cases. I usually do cr.mk to GT or EX GT. I sometimes do ultra 1 on it.

Snake strike on wakeup beats non-meaty non-safejumps.

Need some vanilla trials help, Hard Trial 5 to be exact!

J. FP
ST. MP
ST. LP
CR. MK
EX Galactic Tornado

Having issues linking the cr. mk, I’m always pushed too far out of range. Ideas, please?

I noticed this in a match after you mentioned it. Seems like the second hit will whiff if the first one connects or vice versa.

How can you use far st. Rh to go over shoto low forward?
Does it hit them or just dodge the attack?
Any other things like this I should know about?

P.s. One of my friends at SB5R talked to Ranmasama and he explained it to him.

Justinbehungry, if you think the ryu player, or hell, any player with a good low forward or a sweep that has a hit box running along the ground, you can use st. rh to walk over it and punish them. It isn’t something you will ever use on reaction to a low forward, it is a poke, unsafe vs. other quick pokes. If you time it at the same time with a low forward, you will walk over the low forward, assuming you are close enough, and punish it. If you are too late, they will be able to recover and block. Mind games come after it is blocked, because you can follow with a cr. jab, ex messiah, dive kick if you are manly, or just block hoping for a dp. This works because you have a bit of low body invincibility. Ultra two can combo off of it as long as you you do the ultra on the first available frame, otherwise it will hit once and then let them fall.

Is the fs.HK supposed to hit Ryu after walking over c.MK? It’s been whiffing for me, although it went over c.MK successfully.

Try it in training mode. Best way to test things out.

So I decided to quit playing Balrog as my main. I find him pretty much boring. So I tested out multiple chars, and I decided to try to main Rufus.

My question is, what should I know about that character as a Rufus player? In other words, whats the basic knowledge required to be minimally effective with Rufus?

Then read the Rufus threads on this forum.

lol good one

well troispoint, if you have any further doubts thats not covered in the threads feel free to ask here

Seriously though, everything is covered here.
Just look.

Im sorry if this has been asked before but i looked and couldnt find it. I noticed that rufus has a crossup using what seems to be j.mk. I tried it and on somechars it works and some it doesnt. what are the setups for this and which characters does it work on?

Best set ups for it are after a sweep from near max range, jumping over someone into the corner after a fierce tornado, jumping over after knocking them down in the corner or the one I like best is mid screen forward/neutral throw, dash forward twice immediately and then do jump mk when you are above them. It crosses up on big characters, like hawk, sagat, and gief, though it kinda useless on gief. Off the top of my head I know it works on balrog, vega, cammy, and a few others. It doesn’t work on a standing guile, sim, ryu, akuma, ken, sakura, ibuki, and other small characters. Just go into training mode and put it to the test. Feel free to post what you find, I’m sure others will find it helpful.

Troispoint, learn to land dive kick into st. lk st. fierce, fierce tornado. After you land that, jump in and do either throw, land and do a quick dive, land and go low, land and tick throw, land and block, or land and ex messiah. Mix these options up until you win. On defense, learn to block and ex messiah when you think they are going to use a poke other than cr. lk or cr. jab. For damage, learn j. rh into ultra, stand rh into ultra, fierce tornado into ultra when near the corner, ex tornado into ultra when near the corner, and you can land an ultra after a focus, how crazy is that. Now get cracking!

sorry for my bad english

I have a little dificult to punish chun-li backdash and akuma teleport, how i perform the option select to punish this?

For backdash there is the OS Ex GT from dive kick or jump attack. For teleport OS U2 but make sure akuma doesn’t have U2 stocked up. Or if you expect Akuma teleport, just chase the teleport after dive kick.

Against most backdashes j.hp os sweep work’s just as well or delayed os tech with sweep on their wakeup (wait ~5-9 frames and press crouching lk + lp + hk at the same time to tech a throw, block an srk if you time it right and catch a backdash).

Against akuma teleport you can also often punish with c.hp at some ranges

i’m having problems crossing up with j.MK. is there a trick to it? it seems to just whiff for me everytime, but i see players like justin wong use it all the time.

It’s character specific for the timing

ie. j mk on balrog has to be timed much earlier than sagat

That delay OS tech on wakeup is interesting. Are you doing this at point blank range? Hazanshu and Chun’s delay throw tech looks like the practical ways to beating it. But if they are mostly backdashing on their wakeup with a occasional throw or EX SBK, this OS will handle this well.
