Question about Super Vs ultra:

I’ve been practicing my GT–> Ultra in the corner with Rufus, and got the timing down pretty good. However, the Super comes out sometimes instead of the Ultra. In Practice mode (on xbox360) I have the input display and it clearly shows just :3p: as the input.

Any reason why the super comes out instead of the ultra?

Its either:
A problem with execution.
You have Ultra 2 selected.
Apart from that, just make sure you practice your execution.

I get this same problem as well. I’m not sure why this happens. For me it’s usually when I’m practicing my HP GT to U1 midscreen on Balrog. My guess is that it’s due to negative edge (possibly letting go one button before the other).

I don’t negative edge for this combo. I usually buffer the QCFx2 and hit :3p: just after the final hand smack. Is this the same timing you attempt?

What I’m saying that is maybe you are accidentally negative edging the 3xPunches.

I’ll give you an example:

You are trying to do the close standing hard punch -> HP Galactic Tornado -> Ultra 1

:lp::mp::hp: <- Ultra 1 (Lets say you entered this input a little early.)
:r:
:df:
:d:
:r:
:df:
:d:
:hp: <- HP Galactic Tornado
:r:
:df:
:d:
:hp: <- Close HP

You pressed the 3xpunches too early after galactic tornado and the Ultra 1 does not come out. You then let go the punches, but you let go one of the punch buttons first. Super comes out. Not on PURPOSE, but accidentally. Negative edge won’t show up as an input.

Hopefully this is understandable.

OOOHHhhhhhh hehe. Makes perfect sense. That’s probably whats happening. Thanks a bunch.

I was just wondering who you guys feel are the world’s best Rufuses. So far I’ve got Justin, Ricky, Marn, MDR, and Kindevu. Are there any other superstars I should know of that belong in that club? In particular, I’m looking for more Japanese Rufuses. There’s got to be more than MDR, and does Kindevu still even use him? I thought I saw one whose name begins with an I, but can’t for the life of me remember the rest of his name. Thanks!

PS. I tried looking in the SBO qualifiers thread, but it seems to have been moved or closed or I’m blind.

SAULABIS is pretty good.
I believe that Kindevu dropped Rufus and picked up Cammy.

Gosho is pretty good too, but there arent many vids of him

is there a source where i can find rufus safe jump setups? character specific and universal

i have some at YouTube - kourck’s Channel but not all of these are the most efficient/error-free, and some have variations and stuff. just a few primers if you will

thanks man good stuff

Dear Rufus players…

as early reports coming in, Cammy is losing her instant dive kick in the arcade edition (nerfed), and that she can only instant dive using EX Cannon Strike.

so my question to you, how would you feel if you lose instant dive kick??

or that you need EX bar to instant dive??

(yeah i main Cammy)

Di,

I’d feel like playing Yun

I’d say it’s extremely unlikely to happen. Think of it this way - how would you feel if you had to use meter to do an invincible move? That’s sort of the parallel between Cammy and Rufus. I’m not justifying the nerf, but look at the tools both characters have. Divekicks are also useful for more than just instant air tech punishes (that seems to be Rufus’ specialty, still available to Cammy but needing meter if the change goes through), altering your trajectory and timing for a jump-in is almost as useful. It’s possible they also didn’t want Cammy to have it as a meter-building tool. It’s all speculation at this point, though, and hardly final.

I did hear Rufus is losing some damage on U2, but… oh well. Of all the possible nerfs, that one is fine by me. Anyway, speaking of U2… I was very against using it do to my comfort level w/ U1, but I’ve come around and have been working on it. Though I’m curious about choosing it vs some characters and wondering if you guys do and why:

Blanka- Seems logical, but when I go to do still like punish blocked balls or ultras, it always taps him then bounces him away. Do you guys like U2 vs Blanka and how are you trying to land it vs him?

Ken- I use it vs Ryu, Akuma, and Sagat, but what about Ken? I dunno why, but I still feel like using U1 vs him. He’s not quite as FB heavy I guess. Thoughts?

Sim- Im at work and havent had a chance to test but can we grab limbs? If so, seems like U2 would be a no-brainer? No? Since once we get in, we rush him like crazy, U1 still feels the way to go.

Off the top of my head, my current “Use U2” list is: Ryu, Sagat, Akuma, Blanka(despite above), Viper, Ibuki, and I may be forgetting another or two. What are your current “Use U2” lists and why, for any who may not be obvious? Thanks!

Against Blanka, you can U2 any upball on hit or block, which significantly cuts down on his wakeup options (ex rainbow can be hit with close fierce or EX Snake Striked), you can U2 horizontal balls on hit if you weren’t crouching, and you can u2 them on block if you’re crouching in most cases (not sure on max range jab ball when crouched). U2 isn’t useful enough against Ken since he won’t really be trying to zone you with fireballs. Against Dhalsim, since he has little health and can zone without fireballs, I think U1 is better, especially since one of the main objectives is cornering him, at which point you become extremely, extremely dangerous with U1. You can U2 limbs, but you can also just hit them with other moves that aren’t massively punishable. Right now, I’m only using U2 on Blanka, C. Viper, El Fuerte, Vega, Seth, Ibuki, Gouken, Rose, and Sagat.

U2 vs Dhalsim is godlike…Divekick OS U2 = gg dhalsim.

Ah, right. Forgot Gouken, he’s on my list too. Seth makes sense, but which moves are you looking for specifically? Like, sim, I feel like I’d rather get the massive reward for getting in and combo-ing or popping a jHK (my goal for Ultra 1-ing gief as well). And why U2 for Rose? I feel like it’s more likely I’ll rush her face off than that I’ll catch her trying to FB zone me. <shrug> And Vega is one where I’ve sat on the select screen thinking. Hmmm. But ultimately Vega’s weakness (at least pre arcade edition ol) was his weak wakeup. I’ll take the rush down route. Probably a 50/50 and a matter of preference. I absolutely want to err on the side of U1, but am now more willing to U2 where it makes the most sense (like Ibuki, where you have to be a lunatic not to use it, etc)

Every time I try to punish Blanka balls w/ U2 I get one hit and it knocks him away. Am I doing it too fast or too slow or something? I definitely had the idea “punish balls with U2!” but it hasnt worked for me once. He hasn’t gotten sucked in.

IMO I´d rather have U2 vs dhalsim which ensures he’s not gonna escape (ie: backdash/teleport) of my divekicks than U1. U2 allows you to maintain the pressure on him since most of his options are cut, for ex: Hp XX hp tornado, ok, you safe jump him but he teleports…now you gotta chase him again…but if you option select U2, he’s fucked he has to eat it and eat your next mixup.

just saying…lol
