Dive Kick Thanks
Thanks Changuillo,
Good to know that it is not just me re: Gief and Balrog!
You are right - when playing against Rufus if he keeps up the pressure with dive kicks you feel kind of helpless.
Thanks again.

I’ve got a couple of questions as I try to pick Rufus up again in Super.
What do I do against an opponent mashing grab every time I dive kick? It’s really been restricting my game so far.
What’s the timing on Big Bang Typhoon-ing fireballs cross screen? I was playing a Ryu and went for one on reaction and I did not get the punish, granted, this was totally cross screen and online latency might have come in to play, but I generally thought I could do that.
Dive kick again it’ll stuff his grab and net you a combo. Or make sure your divekick is hitting really deep so s.lk is either a safe string or has less than 3 frames between the stun and the hit.
Needs to be closer than 3/4 screen with quick reactions, 1/2 screen with slower reactions. Its not about timing, its about doing it as fast as possible at the right ranges.
Alrighty, thanks. Totally forgot about Triangle Jumping (that’s what the Dive kick maneuver is called, right?). It’s been a while since my last Rufus rodeo. And thanks for the info on U2 as well, it should make that damn Ryu matchup much more bearable.
Seeing that recent supposed tier list!
I refuse to believe Rufus is A+ tier, he has a lot of bad match ups more than the rest of the A+ tiers, hell, he has more bad match ups than the A tiers.
He’s really good and all, especially in SSF4, but highest tier material, no way!
I used to feel that, but now I’m pretty sure he’s going to be on top(if not first, then second or third).
He only has 3 bad match ups in my opinion and they are 6-4 at the most: Boxer, Dictator and Sagat.
Honda and Abel are going to give Rufus trouble but it’s not really more than even. Ryu and Akuma are way easier because of U2.
Rufus’s not going to be God tier like sagat in SF4 but he definitely belongs to the top unless we discover something that really hurts him in the coming months.
He also has bad match ups against Blanka, Guile, and Cammy. U2 doesn’t work that great against Guile’s Sonic Boom since he recovers very fast after the Sonic Boom.
Wow, Boxer gives Rufus problems. I never had a problem facing Boxer, I actually beat more Boxers than lost to him using Rufus. Hell, everytime I go to the arcade, a good Boxer player usually got beaten by either a Sagat or a Rufus player.
hey guys just a general question to all rufus players, how long did it take you guys to learn BnB as in being able to do it on command in real matches? Im able to do it in training mode around 50 percent of the time but I just cant translate it onto online very well, I will very rarely be able to pull it off.
Il just keep on practicing
Guile got better since SF4, but in SF4 the match was pretty much over if a good Rufus got in on Guile. Has something changed there, beyond Guile being a little harder to get in on?
Blanka’s never been too bad for a good Rufus, either, unless there’s lag. So, uh, same question here, I guess… What makes Blanka worse for Rufus in this game?
Cammy’s always been a fairly even match, too. Certainly no worse than Ryu.
There is no way Guile is a bad match up for Rufus. With his buffs, I would say 5.5-4.5 in Rufus favor. It’s hard to get in(much easier than Ryu though) but once you’re in you shouldn’t lose the match(I know I do, but I’m not the best Rufus player).
Delayed dive kicks are the key here to get in.
Blanka is even I think. No special reason to think the green monster has the edge on rufus. U2 punishes blocked balls(maybe on hit?).
Cammy I don’t know.
BTW, this is the wrong thread;)
XBL Abel player looking for some Rufus practice. Anyone up for it?
XBL= mikeomak
Guile is hard because you need to get in and his defense is better and safer than ryu’s, once you’re in you shouldnt have problems there, that is why you need to capitalize every combo attempt you get on him, because most of the time you will be fighting to get in.
man ive been wasting alot of time. not paying attention to much to new stuff added to characters and esp. my main rufus lol, been playing around with the new chars, but this week the seriousness is coming back due to tournaments coming up.
so my first question is about Rufus U2… since i saw the sick range it has punishing fireballs, im gonna use it on ryu, ken, maybe sagat? and so on… how about charging fireball chars like guile/dee jay, the U2 is as good as punishing their fireballs as shotos?
my second question, the U2 sucks akuma in while he is in his teleport…is this true??? please give me info asap, im to lazy to go in trainingmode atm plus im sick so cant play
what other chars do you guys reckon i should use U2 over U1 ! THANKS!
i made this post a while ago, and while it is not the absolute truth, I think it is pretty close:

if u want further explanation, go for it
Using U2 on Guile: you have to guess when he sonic booms. On EX booms, it’s easier to do. Not sure on deejay, but his proj has more recovery.
U2 doesn’t suck in akuma WHILE he teleports, only the recovery afterwards. It catches his recovery on air fireballs, so learn which air fireball you can U2 on.
If your sick, you should be at home. At home, you should have a console. On console, you should hit that training mode. lol
U2 can suck akuma out of his tp but be careful because if he has U2, he can cancel his tp and his ultra will hit you.
Not sure about all that ultra stuff, but the more I use U2, the more I think I’ll be back on U1 for most of the match ups.
Akuma seems the only match up where U2 is really effective(and seeing that Kindevu/tokido match, I realized that kindevu picked U1).
I’m doubtful about U2 against Sagat and Ryu because they will bait your ultra, and pretty sure U1 is better against gief.
Still waiting for top players to decide for me, but U1 set ups are way too good(and everytime I pick U1 against a good Sagat, I think to myself:“what an idiot! Should have picked U2!”. Erf…).
Louie, are you the Rufus I saw playing Alioune on Youtube? If you are, great job. Really difficult to take a game(3 rounds) from SF4 Alioune’s Sagat.
I use U1 against Guile, its better since he doesnt have an answer for close pressure if you play smart and u need to maximize the damage everytim you get him IMO
Are there any options when under corner pressure from Dictator other than spamming out an EX Messiah? I like to avoid using EX Messiah wherever possible.
Also, my bad habit at the moment is trying to combo after dive kicks with standing hp into GT. It does work, but misses a whole bunch too. Does this 1 frame lk, hp into GT work a lot better then, once the ridiculous timing is second nature?
joffocakes: Not really. Like against TK pressure, you can’t get out of here unless your opponent makes a mistake. Fortunately, Bison cannot really punish EX messaih if he doesn’t have ultra(in fact he can but he has to guess and it is more risky for him than it is for you).
Dive, lk works way better than dive cl.HP.
question about the rufus’ damage scaling
why does j.HP > target combo > U1 do about the same damage as a “naked” U1?
