Rufus changes you want!

but then again, this is rufus play style.

he has to take risks and they almost always payoff big time. a rufus that doesn’t take calculated and sometimes not so sometimes not so calculated risks is a sitting duck.

Is it just me or does the game feel different? I can’t really describe why or how but it just does. When I hit someone it doesn’t feel the same way. Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s because Rufus does less damage something is tricking my brain into thinking it’s different.

Also, does he have less hit stun on dive kicks now? Maybe it’s because I’m playing online, but stuff that used to connect at certain heights isn’t connecting for me.

Could only play a little with him but he either has less hitstun on the divekick or more startup on c.mk maybe?

Dive kick > c.mk xx tornado doesn’t seem to work anymore no matter how high the dive kick hits. Used to be my combo of choice online, I guess I’ll have to find a way to do his 1 frame link despite the lag.

I think his dive kick is the same, I haven’t noticed any difference.

Why do you use c.mk over s.hp? Granted, c.mk hits low which could be helpful, but both c.mk and close s.hp have the same startup time (unless this changed with super?) and s.hp is more damage + forces standing.

Of course c.mk is pretty much required for blanka and his fucked up hitbox :mad

it works, i tried out in training mode vs rog. Online could be a diff story ive only hit it a few times cleanly as a 5 hit combo

You basically have to be on the offense with Rufus, ie taking risks, and if you don’t you lose. I felt that was fair in SF4 where Rufus had a large health pool and high damage, but it was hard for him to get in since all the other characters could just zone him. In super all the cast has even stronger zoning tools and Rufus has less health and damage, I just don’t see how that’s fair anymore.

except ultra 2 shuts down zoners from half screen away

Well I don’t like ultra 2. To be honest I just thought that matches would be easier in SSF4 for Rufus, but that’s definitely not the case. In my opinion every single matchup he had in vanilla is the same or harder in Super, but whatever, I’m still going to main him.

Sagat is way easier and ryu is easier. The other ones are slightly harder but nothing Rufus can’t handle.
Abel might be a problem now, and boxer still is, but then again nothing impossible.

I should have checked this myself after getting the, but J.HK does juggle into ultra 2. Just the first part of J.HK.

For those that don’t see the power of Ultra 2. You will see it soon enough. If you don’t like Ultra 2…you will. Especially since Ultra 1 does less damage now. Ultra 2 gives Rufus so many new tools and so many new things he can punish on reaction that he just had to sit and watch happen or try to option select with the first ultra. Which if he reacts with Ultra 2 to any of those options the opponent loses 40-50 percent life. Comboing into ultra is old news now. Stripping people of options is the new way to play Rufus. There will still be matchups where Ultra 1 is better but there are CLEARLY a lot of matchups where Ultra 2 will just be the go to ultra for free.

Ive been using U2 vs ryu, ken, sagat, juri, ibuki, and those gouken that like to pop up randomly. Though vs Juri I also like U1 in the match because of most Juris always jumping which makes it easy to combo into U1. Ive also been using U1 vs chun with better results.

I would like to hear some input about what ultras people are using vs some matchups

Ultra 2 is good against blanka, punishes balls. Ive had him just pop out of the ultra though. Anyone else see that happen?

That’s very character specific, isn’t it?

Anyway, i made like twenty games against TheKingSagat yesterday. He had almost never played the new Sagat, but he knows the Rufus/Sagat SF4 match up very well, and when I used to play him on vanilla, it was a clear 10/0 for him.

So we played again yesterday and I had good results with U2(it was kinda even). But then, I tried to get back with U1 on his advice, and I had way better results.
My reaction time is pretty slow, and although he was careful on jumps and TS, he always managed to make me eat some, and even sometimes bait U2 and punish. With U1, I was not focused on counter his TS with ultra and could play the classic Rufus’ strategy.

So here’s my question, especially to Sharin who played RickyTTT(probably same level as KingSagat, except he knows the new game way better): Did you try to play with U1 or did you just play with U2?
With all the trades and damages nerfs, Sagat is easier to corner, and corner equals U1 most of the time.
The beginning of the round is still hard as long as you don’t have meter because the one eyed man can press you really toughly, but U2 doesn’t change that.
TK is a joke when not done very close and 2mp trades in favor of Rufus now.

Don’t know if it’s the same for Ryu, but as far as I’m concerned I think I’ll stick with U1 for Sagat.

Hey clerks, im playing mainly dudley and hakan 100% since release except a few matches with rufus, but every now and then i play vs ricky´s sagat with my rufus also (not too much since hes now maining ibuki)

You could be right about the u1 part because of sagat nerfs but honestly, the main problem I had in vanilla vs good sagats was the insane zoning a good sagat can put on you.

I remember the frustration I had when played against bonchan or mago back when i was in japan, granted they were miles away from mi level of play the zoning sagat can do to rufus if the sagat player is excellent is ridiculous.

Now, when I have u2 ready i really notice the fear of shoto players on throwing any projectile on me at mid range. Sagat still has st.mk and hk, but without TS you will get in. Once they are cornered, they cant jump and if they panic and try to do a ts, bam, 40% of their life is gone and free mixup.

I´ll give a shot to u1 tho, now we can take more risks and maybe its worth it to have the extra damage and the ultra thread in corner to mind fuck them. You have probably more clue than me if you keep playing against good sagats with rufus, so ill take your advice and try it out

PD: Would be cool if you add me on 360, I need experience against rufus since im almost the only one in spain who plays him. I think I play a solid dudley, so you can learn that matchup too  GT : Arcadia Sharin

As I told you, my reaction time is very slow, so I miss a lot of opportunities to punish with U2. And the thing is, my mind is focused on that punishment, so I miss a lot of opportunities to put pressure on Sagat.

Maybe somebody that can react faster will choose U2, but I’m pretty sure I won’t. And TKS told me as soon as he saw U2 that I was crazy to give up on so many set ups for not be zoned at mid range. Kara TK (and sometimes TU) were the main issue in vanilla, but once again with that damage nerf it’s not hurting so much anymore especially if you can get trade with a well timed dive kick.
I’ll try to play Alioune one of these days but he seems to be hiding his Sagat…so he can release the beast in stunfest! He would destroy me anyway but I could check if U1 is better.

Last thing: When I look at japanese vids, it seems that oftenly Rufus can jump on Sagat without being TUed. Is it just that I get a wrong idea of that or is there a reason for that. Same question about TK pressing at the beginning of round 1. I almost never see it. Is it because the Rufus players are so good that they never get caught in that kind of pressing?

And frustration for Sagat-Rufus in vanilla is the right word. Funny how people told me when I was complaining about the difficulty of this match up, “look at the japanese rufus, they destroy Sagats like nothing!”. Well, I’m not japanese, and overall not kindevu^^

EDIT: I think I’m still in Fasoll’s friendlist(maybe he removed me because we did’nt play since I was playing blanka, which means a while ago), so you can add me from there(I’m at work right now and probably won’t turn on the xbox this week end).
