Rufus changes you want!

that really doesn’t sound unreasonable. I mean, U1 is what used to scare people before and make them want to keep Rufus away, but U2 can only combo from far HK, or maybe a heavy jump. I’d be fine fighting Rufus without fireballs once he gets ultra… unless the ultra gives true strike invincibility… then that’d be garbage.

True Ultra 1 does have the target combo setups into ultra mid screen (even though they whiff on some crouching characters). Having something that reliably combos off j.HK into Ultra is solid but j.HK to EX snake strike still does pretty solid damage. I personally thought the fact that Rufus could take chunks of your lifebar away with or without ultra was scarier than him with the ultra. I never got scared when Rufus had Ultra like I was scared once Ryu or Sagat had ultra. It was more so the fact that if he got in if I got touched regardless of Ultra I was taking big damage and he got a knockdown off galactic tornado that allowed for easy okizeme/wake up. It was like the first time you got knocked down unless you had a character with a sick reversal game u had to block/backdash for your life or take a ride.

From the looks of it, it was also sucking up things like Viper’s burn kick (grounded or air based since they’re all airborne) from pretty nasty ranges. Makes me wonder if Akuma can even air fireball him much anymore. Like if Rufus picks Ultra 2 Ibuki literally has little to no zoning game against Rufus anymore outside of perfectly spaced f+HK. Kunai will help her to space Rufus out well if he uses Ultra 1 but Ultra 2 is just like forget it. Basically if u do any move that forces your character to stall in the air or the ground for a period of time u get full ultra 2’d.

Awesome, prob means a lot more people are gonna play Rufus now who didn’t in Vanilla.

Unrelated, but how is U2 as an anti-air? Is it effective if Rufus is being pressure’d with cross ups / getting jumped in on a lot?

Does that mean s.lk to s.hp is no longer a 1 frame link? I could do that combo pretty consistently offline but online? forget about it. I really hope it’s true about it being easier. Even just an extra frame to do it would be a big help.

Ultra 2 seems very very good. Makes me wonder if U1 is still worth using. Once you got U2, Akuma can’t do anything but fireball from full screen(jump back, because jump forward equals punishment).
3/4 screen hadoken get punished too…

Rufus has been nerfed a little bit, but not too much:

dive, cl. lk, hp, hp tornado:264 dmg, and with lp tornado:288
jump hp, c.mk, EX tornado:274dmg
EX messiah fadc ultra1 is 485 and with target combo, it’s 425

I can’t tell now, but I think uktra 2 is really going to help.

Edit: Viper’s mix ups are crushed by U2, too or are at least very risky. And gief’s big lariat is punished mid screen.
The link cl. lk, hp didn’t seem easier. A little bit different but not easier or harder.

I’m not sure what the frames are from s.lk to s.hp but it seems like a lot of the harder links with other characters are also easier. I was doing some of the harder Ryu links with ease over and over. I have the game on me right now so if you have any questions I may be able to help.

Can some wonderful person put a vid on youtube showing some U2 fireball punishes particularly against Akuma. If possible also, can you test if U2 punishes Balrogs safe jump pressure and Elf’s mixup game getting up from knockdown?

Boxer’s jump are still safe. Elf is weird. Sometimes he eats the ultra, and sometimes it will trade. Both ways it’s safe for rufus since elf goes down.

Oh, and demon flip P gets crushed by U2.

EDIT2: Obviously punishes blanka balls on block, and on hit if not too far from corner. Punished rainbow roll almost anywhere.

This is kinda hilarious. Everyone was bitching about Rufus having an Ultra that juggles off everything, so they give him an alternate Ultra that does everything except juggle off stuff.

The only thing that needs to be tested- Does Ultra II leave the opponent down long enough for any dive kick/jump MK set ups? Ultra I was deadly, not just because it juggled off so many things, but also because it gave you time to set up an ambigious cross up, effectively doubling its damage potential.

If Ultra II doesn’t give you time for a free dive kick, then there might be a real choice between Ultra I and Ultra II: Ultra I for “I have no more life but in 2 seconds you’ll be dead” comebacks and Ultra II for generally more stable play (seriously, what’re you going to do if you can’t throw fireballs or cross Rufus up? While you think about it, let me rush you down for the rest of the match… and OS into Ultra if you backdash, thank you very much).

Otherwise, its OSII against almost everyone.

Of course the most important ramification of Ultra II is that Sagat, Ryu and Akuma will HAVE to rush Rufus down because just chucking fireballs= free Ultra meter. That in itself makes Ultra II sound pretty broke.

Thanks. That makes sense then. Ultra II beats Tortilla but trades with splash. Sounds fair to me. At least Fuerte has 2 potential ways of making Rufus waste the Ultra (splash to trade or safe tortilla and block).

Could you elaborate on the different Headbutt strengths, please? Jab and Ex Headbutt used to be totally unpunishable.

with all the new characters changes and what not…im glad to see that rufus can still deal with ANYBODY on the cast. This is the first time i ever switched my main character as long as i’ve been a tourney player. first time i wasnt maining a shoto actually lol

You can’t punish cammy’s dive with U2, unless you have an eye faster than light. And as for the vortex, it SEEMS demon flip P gets crushed, but I’m not really sure since I only tried it in training mode, with "record-replay). Ultra worked but I know sometimes the training mode is not working correctly.

Anyway, Rufus seems broken^^

well in my mind i was thinking of a player trying to cross Rufus up. Or rufus on wakeup. she tries to chip him or cross him up with that dive kick then it sounds like she’ll eat the ultra. unless im picturing it wrong in my head

With a big cross up ok. But if she does dive kicks close to te ground like rufus’s, it’s too risky to launch U2.

characters like cammy who can do their most damage after a knockdown might have to really think twice before trying a crossup. they might get chipped to death by that ultra or just end up eating it. i cant wait to get my hnds on super now. cuz now i gotta learn how to not fall for my mains’ U2 gimmicks

I got to try Rufus and I noticed mainly two things, s.LK > s.HP is definitely easier and his ultra 2 does MAD chip damage, move over Blanka! Nothing really new though.
