Yeah seriously hahahaha remove corner setup and j. hk? those are his 2 biggest setups imo…you just can’t do that to him :shake:
Some changes on the Snake Strike…I wish they make it 2 ways…Snake Strike and Airborne Snake Strike
I could see like, removing far HK and maybe after a corner snake strike or something- but those don’t really matter. If you get caught by far HK you’re getting sloppy.
I mean, his main 4 good ones are…
tornado into corner -> ultra
target combo -> ultra
jump hk -> ultra
ex messiah lk followup fadc -> ultra
…Last one costs 3 bars. =/
If you removed tornado into corner and jump hk, Rufus would suck. =/
That’s the thing, though. This game ISN’T all about fireballs and uppercuts. RYU and SAGAT are all about fireballls and uppercuts. But, they aren’t the only folks in this game.
There are plenty of characters who don’t have fireballs/good fireballs or uppercuts/good uppercuts. What about their plight against Rufus?
And, true he often propels his body at people, but his moves have great properties that minimize the risk. Dive kick hits fast at an awkward angle leg first, making it tough to counter unless you have a good uppercut. EX messiah is invincible. Galactic Tornado eats fireballs, breaks focus, and beats lots of attacks (and it’s safe on block). His normals have speed and trick hit boxes that avoid danger in strange ways (try landing Viper’s ultra on Rufus’ crouch fierce, see what happens).
You talk as if he has to take his life into his hands every time he dares to approach, but he really doesn’t…unless his opponent has a nice DP like Ryu and Sagat. And, many characters don’t.
I am talking about having them do a fireball, me jump, dive kick, then at the point where it should hit, i get dp instead.
It isn’t even a trade if they do it stupidly late.
Rufus’ new ultra looks to have zero juggle potential.
Looks like an ultra for a turtley Rufus because of its AA and chip potentials (like Blanka’s original ultra), but I didn’t see it hit on startup yet.
Might be cool as a messiah followup without FADC, but that sounds wierd.
Supposedly EX Snake Strike damage has been nerfed heavily? I can kinda agree with that.
But Rufus does not need to be nerfed aside from that. He’s fine.
Rufus should say “Get a room!” before the final hit of Spectacle Romance.
He should also wipe his ass during the startup of Fragrance Palm.
He needs to be a little better against Shotos and a little worse against everyone else. Also just less braindead in general.
20 or 25 less ultra setups plox
I think he needs more Ultra setups.
Drop his HP down to 1100. Nerf EX snake strike.
I don’t really mind any of his ultra setups. If one HAD to go i would choose target combo.
This.
Also, let him be a little more Kung-Fu!
Make him black, bald and have ken’s alternate costume. Also, change his name to King Cobra.
Or just shave his pubes.
Correct
How many tournaments have you won using Rufus without using your brain?
Don’t skimp on the details now.
I don’t watch Michael Bay films and I don’t use Rufus.
Then you were just trolling because you have no experience on the thought process used while playing him.
He doesn’t need to win a tournament to make a point. what kinda dumbshit logic is that?
dive kick into dive kick into dive kick into combo back into dive kick repeat doesn’t really require huge thought process. His large amount of ultra setups coupled with above average stamina doesn’t exactly make him the toughest character to use either, now does it? I would like for them to give him some better tools so that he can get in differently so that regurgitating dive kick spam ad nauseam doesn’t remain his main tactic.
I’m not claiming that a scrub can just pick up SF4 and start raping with Rufus, but if people can call Balrog a brain-dead character just because of his short xx headbutt ultra, then I don’t see what’s wrong with saying it about Rufus’ game of dive kick spam and easy links into ultra. If you disagree, then state why and support your argument. Don’t negate somebody’s point because they haven’t finished first in a tournament.
Of course it matters.
In a reasonably balanced game (and we can all agree that SF4 is reasonably balanced) all options available to a character can be stopped by a viable counter.
If a counter is available against something and you expect it to come, then playing said counter will beat it. Failing to play said counter will result in the same move being played over and over again.
In this case, the character doesn’t require thought because the opponent isn’t forcing him to think. That’s the opponent’s fault. If Rufus doesn’t require thought at a certain level of play, its because the level of play is too low and the right counter measures aren’t being played appropriately.
In this case, dive kicking repeatedly can be beaten by crouch teching with the right timing, back dashing, uppercutting, jumping backwards with an immediate attack, just pressing the jab button, and most importantly- not letting him knock you down so that he doesn’t get to play that option too often. Your ability to do it correctly will depend on your execution and your ability to make decisions based on your evaluation of the opponent’s favoured moves in particular situations. The level of your ability is tends to be indicated by how well you do at tournaments.
Saying that a character is braindead indicates that you understand the level of thought required while playing him. Saying that when you don’t play him at all IS trolling.
Edit: Last of all, level of play obviously matters. I don’t go into the Zangief forum and say that he’s “braindead” because I just spam lariat and win all day on PSN. That’s bullshit, because at decent levels of play Zangief isn’t about spamming lariat. Same thing for Rufus- at higher levels of play, he’s not about spamming dive kick pressure.
