We need a Canadian fighter that is a part of the mounties, uses a hockey stick as a weapon and his Super should be called “Revenge of The Maple Syrup”. Hes taunts should also have the words aboot thrown in there and he should automatically win when fighting an American character because Canada is better than America in everything always.

it is certainly an influence, but regarding the body type he looks more like Ferrigno. Besides, Hercules, Sinbad and Hulk were too widely known in the 80s, more than Andre, so as not to influence the designers. thats just my opinion though…

Also the characters story is almost the exact same as Andre the Giant, a german giant born to a farming family who moves to the US in his 20s to seek fame as a wrestler. Only major dif is that Andre is polish/bulgarian and born in france. Also remember this is what Hugo originally looked like:
