Dhalsim is like those yogis who sleep on beds of nails and walk over hot coals and stuff. Meditation, mind over body and all that good stuff. That he spits fire cause of eating spicy foods is amusing.

Blanka was in a freak accident or something right? Or Bison did that to him? He is a sympathetic beast man who loves his mom. At least he looks like he can fight, unlike rufus.

Cody is in jail…but he is a final fight character, so making him a criminal is kind of a story choice.

Rufus is like a Dan character, except he is supposedly really good in this game. Dan makes fun of SNK, Rufus makes fun of obesity.

Again every cast character looks like they can fight, except Rufus…every other character is physically fit/muscular/in shape. Even the old guys like Gouken and Gen.

Despite the stereotypes the Street fighter series always struck me as one of the most realistic of 2d series. It doesn’t go way over the top for the most part with its characters. So maybe it is just me, but seeing a nauseating fat blob jiggle back and forth on the screen just doesn’t fit.

Sakura is Ryu’s pupil, and yeah she is definitely fit. The Chinese twins have a connection with Chun Li and have muscles despite being of smaller stature than most characters.

Female characters are often fan service, as a women who would be able to fight with men would usually be very muscular and not a supermodel (Cammy anyone?). However again Rufus…who wants to see this guy? What audience was he created for?

Yup, Guy and Sodom are American. Sodom is the official “weeaboo” of the SF/Final Fight series(hence his misuse of japanese words, and phrases). Rufus isn’t a weeaboo as he isn’t obsessed with japanese/asian culture other than liking Kung Fu movies which doesn’t require being obsessed with asian cultures. (As a matter of fact the most famous Kung Fu action star was born in San Fransisco California USA: Bruce Lee. Though he spent most of childhood in the Hong Kong area before moving back to the US)

Rufus is a Kung-fu/Sci-fi movie geek. He kind of represents the biker dudes as well.
- According to canon his fire is illusory in nature and it’s a gift from Agni.
- Blanka is like Tarzan or Mowgli. A kid from the civilization who got abandoned in the Brazilian wilderness. His skin color is the effect of consuming chlorophyll and he got his electricity by coexisting with eels (lol.)
- Cody was said to be framed by Eddie E. It doesn’t help that he assaulted Poison who was already reformed at the time.
- 1/4 American, 3/4 Japanese to be precise. His egotism was probably exaggerated by the cartoon series. Basing on the games alone, he is not that much of a jerk.
You see, the whole “female characters that look like models but hit for more damage than dedicated karate pupils” is one of the reasons I like Makoto so much. Look at her first alt…girl hits like a freight train and is RIPPED to back it up. That and she doesn’t dress like a total slut, which unlike a lot of folks I actually like.

Yeah…that is definitely one of the big appeals of Makoto, great character design. She actually looks like she could kick ass, she doesn’t have flirtatious victory poses…or sayings, she’s all business. My favorite of the SF3 characters.

Makoto is a rip-off of Akane Kendo from Ranma. All the new characters in 3S (cept for Chun) were inspired by another source.
Shooting star Rockman hit the nail on the head. Rufus is a parody of those nerdy, fat americans who eats junk food, never exercises, and thinks they can learn martial arts just by watching a bunch of kungfu flicks and imitating the moves. I’m surprised he doesn’t have an asian girlfriend.
Yet America has Guile, the pillar of morality and duty and loyalty and has had him much longer than Rufus.
America didn’t get the short end of the stick with this one.
