Rtdzign's Franken Fightpads. D-pad + Arcade Buttons. ( Sorry. I don't make these anymore)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I made these to see if I could do it. Making a Keyboard stick is kind of easy and not a challenge to me. Somebody else already does that it’s called a hitbox. There is a small segment of the fighting game community that can only play with a d-pad but for games like street fighter would like the benefit of having 6 large arcade quality buttons on the face. If you don’t understand this controller then it obviously isn’t for you.

As for why I don’t make that case you described? Nobody asked me or offered to pay me money to make one.

Well you’re a stupid stupid man. Just kidding, but in all seriousness I love the way these have looked and I have thought about these before, just never had the knowledge to make one myself or I totally would have. I love D-pads, and I love pushbuttons. It’s a great setup for Vs games (I play the my Wii classic controller as if it was one of these when playing TvC).

This seems pretty cool, but I’m curious as to why you use your project box design, instead of doing something akin to a padhack on the arcade button side. If you did it with one of the older consoles, wouldn’t it be better looking to use a converter instead of having the PCB aaaaaall the way out there? Again, aesthetics aside, the idea and execution of it are very clever.

There physically is no space space for a pcb inside the button box compartment. The only PCB that would fit is a Dual Strike SMD.

OMG this is pure pure pure genius!! I’ve always wondered and searched high and low far and wide for something like this!! …i’m speechless, I’ll ask questions later  :amazed: :clapdos:

I am no longer able to create Saturn Style Franken Fightpads. They stopped selling the pads that I was using. So from now on I can only make Playstation 1 based ones. Will update the first post later to reflect this.

Man i’m really happy when I saw this, this is pure (just pure) genius, this is [almost] everything I’ve ever wondered and dreamed of! So here goes, is it just me or is there a small input lag, bc that’s how I think I see while watching the vids. How long will this last? Is the D-pad really better than the joystick or analog stick?

If there was input lag, it would have to do with the shit monitor that I had at the time, but no I don’t really notice any input lag. Feels no different than a TE timing wise.

Okay thanks! =D Did anyone make purchases yet? I wanna see demo vids and if it really works out for them. I’ve been looking and asking around for a good arcade stick to start with (since I’m a pad person). This is what I’ve imagined myself playing on and be right at home with. Which is why my other question was if it only was limited for a d-pad. Because I play my fighting games using the analog stick(i’ve grown accustomed to it) but many preferred the d-pad.

I am the only one who had made videos. I’ve sold quite a few, and what I’ve heard back and I’ve been told that they where happy with it.

I can only hack a D-pad. An analog is not something I can hack.

Oh okay! Thanks!

You have great, great talent my friend and the reason i’ve joined is because of this!

I take it you can make these that are dual modded to work on 360’s? And sorry to ask an obvious question, but if there are no more Saturn clone pads to buy, could you concievably do this with a Madcatz fightpad?

This is seriously what I need. I have a madcatz pad and a fightstick. I LOVE the button layout on the stick, but just cant execute well on the stick. Similarly, ive been used to using pads for years, so DPads are second nature, but I just cant play MK 9 properly with my pad because of certain button inputs.

Wii classic controller + UMK3 layout = HMMM GDLK?

Dual modded to work on PS3/360 via project box convertor.

No on Madcatz pad, seam too curvy, screws in the wrong places for mounting, don’t even want to try. Same with Wii CC, not common ground either, too complicated inside, analog daughter boards, bulky trigger mechanism. Trying will only end up in broken controller.
Playstation pad only.

I could probably use a PS pad at a push, I was competent enough on one when I had Alpha 3 on the PS1.

thinking about building one off these bad boys for my friend and i. would appreciate the help if anyone can give it.

I was just wondering if your still making these. I might buy one once I get enough money.

Depends on if I’m busy if you are ready to get one made. Let me know then.

Would a 360 SF4 controller also work in place of a Saturn clone controller?

Hey man, just to let you know, I bought a Saturn pad copy off of eBay that works pretty decently (although it kinda looks like it’s tupperware) so might be something you could use as a shell. Just checked and they are still selling, though they’re wired for PC:

Anyway, reason why I came by is that I want one of these! I don’t see the prices listed anymore (i could just be missing them though) so am not sure how much they run, but I’m pretty sure this would be the ultimate controller setup for me, so I need to at least try one out.
