RPGs that are worth playing

Free MMORPGs

As you see in the title of my post which one is considered “good” ?

Demon’s Soul

It’s an action RPG, but an RPG nonetheless. I’m thinking about picking this game up! It’s supposed to be challenging which is good because games these days are a little bit on the easy side.

There’s actually a thread about it here on general if you haven’t seen it.

very good game… i miss playing it! =(

i can suggest last remnant for the 360. the story line is alright but the gameplay is different and pretty fun + the game gets hard in the second disk, which makes it more fun to play. some bad things about this game is the fps lag, which is horrible. if you can play through it then i suggest trying it out.

Last Remnant is a game in which you are GUARANTEED to lose unless you learn the basics. I did not advance through quests or story events because of lack of knowledge of the Arts-learning system.

Only tip I would give newcomers aside from learning the basics is to do ALL quests they can possibly do.

Installing it to the HD reduces a lot of the lag, unless of course, you had lag even after the install. Installing it to the HD is considered mandatory unless you’re a masochist

aside from all the games already mentioned, i gotta throw shadow hearts out there. easily makes it in my top 5 greatest/most enjoyable rpgs.

I think Valkyria Chronicles is an RPG. If so, that.

If you can, get the PC version. The Last Remnant for the PC OWNS the 360 one, hard.

No lag, all Leader teams (no generic crappy guys), new weapons, Skills, classes, the list goes on and on. Makes me wanna play it again, that game was way good.

Lunar Silver Star Story is Def one of my favorites.

If you have A PSP there is remake coming out looks badass. But its not in till next around Christmas. But great story great one of my favorite Rps of all time.

Here is some info for remake which is called Lunar Silver Star Harmony

what yall know about dat cosmic fantasy 2?

All 3 shadow Hearts games for PS2.

This and any Persona game…

some other one’s I liked were Metal Saga (very DQ-esque), Baten Kaitos series, Final Fantasy VI (my fav FF by far), Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Lunar series, Golden Sun series etc…

Half Minute Hero.

Man, I really would but I’ve already made it pretty far in the 360 version. All leaders teams is quite badass. Why would they give you 18 leaders but the limit of 6 for battle :looney:

Lag isn’t even that bad in my case anyways, but I hear the PC version has recruitible Enlightened 7? Hannah and Hinnah :lovin:

Dammit, I’ll try to look into getting the PC version, after I finish my first playthrough though.

Legend of Dragoon is really good. Any game with vaginal lasers that heal you is good.

Ohter great RPGs are the Dragon Quest series, the Disgaea series, and the Tales series. Vesperia is fucking sweet.

Although it isn’t a traditional RPG, Mass Effect is so good. Can’t wait for ME 2 and Diablo 3.

 Seriously? I remember that game having a ridiculous encounter rate. Boss battle music was great though. I actually think that game was messed up, though.

Some of my personal favourites (of all-time):
[]Chrono Trigger - SNES - You’ll probably find this for an emulator somewhere out on the Internet. Back in the day, it had the most intense storyline I ever had played through. The sequel (for PSX - Chrono Cross) wasn’t nearly as good (but was still decent).
[
]Secret of Mana - SNES - Again, emulator or personal collection. The battle system was superior (done properly compared to similar RPGs/Action-Adventures out there during the time period. Storyline was pretty robust and the fact you could pull out the SNES Multi-Tap and play with two other friends was pretty fun.
[]Phantasy Star III - Genesis/PS2 - You can find it on many of the remake compilation games that Sega came out with. It was the only RPG that I know that actually had “generations”. You marry several different characters throughout (well, not one single main character - but the protagonist’s son). It’s played a little slow, so someone that’s not used to it might be put off from it.
[
]Megami Ibunroku Persona (Revelations: Persona) -PSX/PSP - Seeing as it was the original, it was the one who brought the game closest to my heart. The battle system was totally unique for its time and the storyline was absolutely mind-boggling for the most part. The following games in the series are just as good, so make sure you pick those up.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete - PSX/SegaCD - Okay the original on SegaCD was probably the better of the two (aside from the added cut scenes and improved graphics). As Kousen said, they’re coming out with a remastered Lunar (the first one) for PSP. Lunar: Eternal Blue (Lunar 2) was pretty good as well; a bit odd, but damn fine RPG. There were some aspects of the remake that were pretty interesting and added to the gameplay.
I could probably go on for decades. As for the person who asked about decent free MMORPGs, you’ll have to explain what type of MMO you like. Nexon has a slew of pretty decent ones (mainly Mabinogi). Ijji has some rather…awkward/weird MMOs but some can be decent (mainly if you like old-school, messing around with web-based competitive games, or such). OGPlanet has Rumble Fighter (not the best, but it’s more of an MMO-Fighter… if you want to consider it that). Like I said, have a look around some of their sites and see if you find anything you might want to try. I’ve played everything from all three companies; so if you have any basic questions, hit me up.

kotor!
which i am playing through right now…

I’ve played every Final Fantasy at least twice (and at most 6 times), and pretty much every other SNES/PSX RPG out there, yet for some reason, I have never played Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross beyond 5 or 10 minutes.

I definitely intend to play through them some day, but for some reason it just never happened so far.

CT for DS is a good buy
since i never got it for snes and didnt have a psx, it was the most sensible platform to buy it for

If you can handle massive anime elements, Ar Tonelico 2 is good. It is played pretty differently from traditional rpgs as well and I found it to be quite engaging. The negative is probably the massive anime influence, and bad english translation team on port.
