Roundtable Discussion: Ways in which to expand the SFxT community

Kidnap Mike Ross.

Well I think I’ll be giving up on the King guide for a little bit. I have lots of information but I have no skill to actually practice what I preach/find to see if it is worth it. I’ll probably have to give up on the whole playing of SFxT as a means of hyping it aspect until at least September, since I am ass and my internet connection is even moreso. I’ll focus on finding videos for Rawtag and experimenting with social media.

Man I like this game, but seriously have never been able to find consistent matches online and no one at all play’s in my area. (New zealand) the retards all went back to SFIV. Such a shame…

The netcode is great but it seems a bit worse over long distances the teleporting in this game is really punishing.
I’m really crossing my fingers the DLC patch breaths new life into it.

Well I sent a message to Maximilian. I am debating whether or not multiple messages (from different people, of course) would be more convincing or just be discarded as spam (I spent more time crafting that one than I did letters for job applications, so I hope it is not treated as the latter).
Max is definitely my favorite of the online personalities, but is there anyone else I should send a message to? I could try the folks at Cross Counter and Level Up Your Game and maybe even Ultrachen, but I think the first might be on the hate train, the second while well intentioned is understandably hyped for TTT2, and the third already spent an entire episode or two trying to expand people’s minds on the game. As someone said before, if Ultrachen could host a kind of roundtable discussion on the state of SFxT, not exactly an endorsement of it but maybe something with Mr. Hunter or JiBbo and a representative of the haters, it could be godliek. I know Keits and Skisonic did one of these with Ryan Hunter a good while back, but I do not believe we had a Defense Force to promote at that time, nor the hope of the Balance Patch to gamble with.

I figured there is something else I could do, but it would require the help of another. I could scour the PSN replay channel for some top matches an hour or two each day and save them. The thing is for this to be effective I would need someone with a PS3 to befriend who could then take the videos I find, watch them on their replay channel, and put them up on youtube. If anyone would be interested in doing this let me know, as I would provide all the time in finding them.

That being said, how easy is it to get equipment necessary to put up replays on youtube? If it is relatively inexpensive and people think that I could find enough quality matches to be a youtube source of SFxT, I can start doing this consistently by early September.

LA Players: It looks like SFxT will be getting a $100 pot bonus (60/30/10 + Pot) at Family Fun Arcade in the coming weekends. No word about the tournament being 2v2 or 1v1, but I’d assume 1v1.

EDIT I was wrong! 2v2, with Gems. Every weekend on Sundays starting next week

Play it for yourself and ask why others dont play it, and if they say something cliche like game is ass, or jab jab jab jab, or SFxTimeout

…then tell them to grow their own brain and stop repeating what a few players that dont want to give up their SF4 clout to learn SFxT said.

realise that when people dislike a game on an intuitive level and lack the understanding to explain why they often reach for the first available reason provided, even if it doesn’t really reflect their real reasons. that doesn’t invalidate their opinion. the idea that droves of people have spontaneously decided the game sucks because someone else told them it does is absurd.

Stop worrying about getting people like Chen, Crosscounter, Max and all this shit to save it for you. Just keep playing the game and showing off cool and interesting things at meets.

After playing for months on PC I am still not sure what is not to like, and I am a smart guy that thinks on my own - if I didnt like it I would say so.

They made a good game based on a lot of community feedback and recommendations from the pros(rememeber all those location tests???) and that SAME community turned around and booted them afterwards, it doesnt make sense… sure it has a few flaws -what game doesnt?..and they are addressing them even though most treat them like crap even still.

There is no reason you shouldn’t be playing SFxT right now if you enjoy fighting games, plain and simple.

AE is good too, but stop acting like you are married to it already people, xT has more options and once you learn them, AE feels lame.

I don’t think the SFxT community is looking for a hand out in “saving the game”, more along the lines of showing people the positive influential parties that think the game isn’t as bad people are making it out to be. The same way people would name drop F.Champ as someone who is against SFxT,and basing that on the competitive credentials of the game isn’t up to snuff. I’m sure lots of people now want to get out there and show the community that SFxT has what it takes, but it also doesn’t hurt to have that kind of support.

Welcome to a ton of games that have been skipped over for no damn reason. And honestly their are a lot of reasons why people aren’t playing and I can’t blame them. The game isn’t the next messiah or some real hot shit, right now the game is merely okay. I can think of about five over games I’d place over SFxT for hoping it picks up more int he community.

Problem is people dont want to try something new once they are in a comfort zone, AE is good but I like xT better after learning about it, I like the footsies more, I never liked the focus system in the 1st place and having 2 characters opens up a world of new options and strats.

chains into full combo off any hit is anathema to smart, nuanced footsies

No but the idea that a large majority may hate the game due to their opinions being tainted by the handling and bad PR surrounding the game, making the game a scapegoat for their hate for Capcom’s business practices…is pretty likely

Care to explain? I’m not sure how what happens after the initial hit has any influence over footsies and the spacing game. Then again, the word ‘footsies’ can mean pretty much anything depending on what day of the week it is.

If you want to criticise SFxT footsies, mention how super strong jump-ins are making everybody completely forget how to play a ground game in the first place.

had a session last night. pretty much showed a rufus player from sf4 in our area the game. He said this, “In this game you get so much off of one hit. In sf4 you barely get anything from making the right reads or pokes.” Rewarding gameplay is rewarding gameplay.

i’ll help out with the replays that i already capture from players… as for Rawtag blog and the Jib thing… i need to know the full situation about it. since i’ve just seen his channel earlier, doesn’t seem like he needs my help wit capturing matches. but this twitchtv streaming i’m hearing about… i would guess that most of the ppl who watch the sfxtk matches i put out there should know bout his channel already…idk

and thank you to whoever puts my videos on this section of the forum… i appreciate it.

I would just like to say can we keep this thread focused on the topic at hand as I personally fear that if we stray off topic too much all the good ideas/thoughts might get lost or muddled up.

With that said I would like to propose an idea that everyone in the community can get behind and work on, which could be a fortnightly or monthly project.

The idea would be to give a set of specific combo limitations to the community and to have them submit their creations and produce a compilation combo video showcasing them with as wide a variety of teams as possible.

Ideally we would start off with trying having more practical limitations for the combos so that everyone has something they can learn and discover.
Newbies would gain the knowledge of what good combos there are, while more experienced players may be inspired to experiment with new teams or look deeper into their existing teams. After a video is released it might also create interesting discussions on lesser used characters as we may get to see more of what is possible within the game.

e.g.
-Pick a team and using only one bar of meter, make the highest damage combos you can do off of a jumping heavy attack with the opponent at either mid screen or the corner.
-Pick a team and using only one bar of meter, make the highest damage combo you can do off of “hit confirming” two light attacks with the opponent at either mid screen or the corner.

This could then lead into more creative stuff like:

-Pick a team, make the highest damage combo you can do off of a Cross counter (alpha counter) switch cancel with the opponent at either midscreen or the corner. (Use only two meters, 1 for the Cross counter and 1 for the switch cancel)
-Pick a team and make the highest damage combo you can do using one meter while trying to move the opponent as far from one corner of the stage to the other as possible.

What are your thoughts guys? Does it sound good, bad or just stupid crazy?

I think that would be pretty cool actually.
