Might be making it to a couple of local events in AZ in the next two months where SFxT is not expected to be a main event - if so, I’ll likely take my setup with me and at least get some casuals going on the side. Least I can do for now.
A lil’ off topic (okay a lot off topic) but what podcast was it, and is it still available? Would be cool to hear some thoughts on some characters I play in the Tekken series as well as others I’ll end up playing against.
I was just thinking while laying in bed that we should all collaborate together. I mean this round table discussion is very well thought out. I thank the original poster. Def the people here that are posting are interested in the game’s future. Each and everyone of you should step up and be that guy in your scene that plays sfxt, even if you’re not at a great skill level.
Now on the collaboration i think a few of us should get together and do vids and write up guides, like mentioned before. It would be great to gather resources together. I say first place to look is your boards. I’m def gonna be working on the Ken guide and work on the lili guide that’s already established on our board. It would be great if we formed a channel and put our constant sfxt content. I’m sure there is a site dedicated only to sfxt. If not we should all make one. Srk can be our outsourcing tool to draw interest to the site. The site will have videos and guides and all the lot. Def think this should happen if we want to promote the game. I’d say even go as far and speak to capcom via their boards. Be like hey, do you guys mind supporting us? I’m sure they’ll lend a hand. I mean we have the resources and capcom does seem eager to see the game succeed. It’s a good game that’s gotten a bad rep these last few months. We need to be the voice of reason as well. I don’t want random patches for no reason. I’d rather they not tamper so much with the core game. once the patch drops i’ll be looking into gem set ups. I think we need to set standard rules as well for the gems. Capcom has already banned auto block and tech gems. That’s should be done for each tournament. Second there should be a time limit to gem picking. Which means players will have to know what gems they need. I think the limit should be around 2-5 mins before a match and when a player is changing character after a loss.
Also i mentioned this before, we need to do something like curhely mustache. Invite sfxt players from around the country to play. I’d love to hold one near DC where i live. There we could focus one 1v1 and 2v2 because it would only be sfxt streamed. I’m so motivated to get these to the right hands. I think i found what i’m going to try to be doing when i get back home for sure.
On the earlier subject of the game needing heroes and villains, it certainly has that in spades for those that support the game. Those who love the game are the scrappy underdogs, trying to dethrone and prove themselves against the SSFIV gods with their superior execution. Tournament organizers and the stream monsters with incomplete knowledge of the game are the big bads, really, with players like Jwong and Ricky O cameoing as their champions who just may do a heel/face turn (look up Gamerbee/Wong at the Shadowloo Showdown finals for hype in this manner, or Magman/ChrisG at CW4 for the hometown hero hype). Then we have Infiltration, who can be on either side. His level of play and own comments prove that he likes the game and plays it a lot, but his style is offputting for a good deal of the audience and the whole “Infiltration loves to troll” mindset suggests that he might be doing all of this to kill the game in his own way.
As for characters in the community it has real potential for that. As said we already have a cast of heroes and villains depending on which side you are on, but the 2v2 element leads to a whole new player opening up. How nice would it be for there to be legitimate Doubles specialists in this game, like there are in tennis? For instance it is my goal to know all the ins and outs of King and perfect his multitude of mixup options, and it’d be great if I had a partner on point who could take care of the gameflow (look at Snakeyes and Richard Nguyen, and to an extent Eternal Rivals). Ideally, I’d like to see tournaments run the option of both 1 player or 2 player teams, so one can choose to have more control over their team or gain more specialized characters and cross assault tech at the loss of overall synergy.
And speaking of the meta, boost gems and team tactics could make this so delicious for everyone. Imagine Dieminion’s Guile working Fortitude gems to troll time out everyone, or Infiltration and Sako using meter gems to increase their Rolento antics or make crazy 5 bar combos, or an aggro player like Poongko killing someone in 2 correct guesses with Kazuya because of those Blood Red gems. I’d like to see it.
Something else I realized is that quite a few (but by no means all) of the detractors hold their stance as a way to pressure Capcom. The game had problems on launch and the whole DLC fiasco and they were not going to enjoy it as much as AE or Marvel anyway, so by hating on the game and shutting it down it tells Capcom it cannot get away with such a business model again. To them, supporting the game is giving Capcom approval that what they did is ok. I do not think there will be a way to overcome these minds, so I hope that is not too common a belief.
There argument is clear and make sense. I think what the player base made capcom realized what they did wrong. They bumped the date up earlier. They’re listening more with a new person in charge. They’re showing that they did indeed mess up and are trying their best to salvage the game. I’m behind the players on this one. If at any time you feel you are being taken advantage of you stand your ground and say no. Capcom wants to avoid future blunders like this. I love capcom games but i knew one day this would happen to them and i’m glad it did.
Oh btw thanks for the site i’m saving this for sure! I’m gonna try to be a major contributer to the site.
Oh and i talked to a friend who is studying rec work. He does events and such as part of his degree program. I’m trying to get a tourney started in my area. Atm it’s gonna be all mainstream games but i’m gonna make sure sfxt gets there. I just need funds and interest to host an all sfxt tourney. Atm though i feel that people won’t attend if it’s just sfxt. I would love to be proven wrong if i did host one. I think i may start a kick starter for this and use the money to plan an epic event and eventually get a sfxt only tourney.
Maybe hook up with K3llogz (Generalkills)? I know he used to go there for SFxT. There are a bunch of people that live around NYC (I’m in North Jersey). Wednesdays (weekdays) are just out of the question for me
I’d like to see Ultrachen do an episode on SFxT. Not specifically SFxT, but more how the FGC have reacted to it and what that says about the community as it stands right now and people’s attitudes. There’s so much to discuss, market saturation, Evo stream ‘politics’, attitudes of top players etc. SFxT has caused some crazy backlash that just cannot be as simple as ‘it’s a bad game, people don’t want to play it’. I think David and James are neutral enough and unaffected by all the bandwagon hatred that they could give it a fair perspective.
@SamuelVimes, I dont play king but hopped into training and couldnt get the mid-air or ground screw leg counters to tag-cancel. I even tried mashing tag to see if it was my timing but neither of them seemed to work. I also tried to do tag cancels off his throws and got them first time no problem so I feel pretty confident in saying that you are unable to tag cancel off of them because he goes into a cinematic animation when he actually does his damage.
Hmm, looks like ssf4evo either ignored my message or just didn’t have time to reply. Maybe you guys can send him some messages too (if you have a YT account)?
I think this game needs more treatment by more “famous” players/channels. I’m mostly thinking of Maximilian (who still likes the game despite its flaws) and UltraChen. How about JiBbo try to invite players to play some more games vs for example Wolfkrone, Valle, Mike Ross…? We should attempt to contact them. Or what about podcasts/streams to chat about SFxT related stuff?
i think the best thing you guys can do is not let people using week 2 game knowledge make it high in the bracket.
most of us that left the game alone saw all that shit back then. and for the same tech to still be making top four just looks like the game is stale and not evolving like we all assumed would be the case.
so you guys keep grinding, and dont let people that dont play your game win matches
I think he might not have had time to reply. I’d give it a day or two and if that doesn’t work I’ll send him one too. The SFxT videos on his channel are ridiculously high level play, the second best place I’ve found for matches actually so far.
I suggested the same thing about Maximillian. I am thinking of sending him a message about the defense force and our current situation and see if he wants to help out/plug our stuff. I would not mind him playing games either, he has both consoles and I do not see many people play Ogre.
You gotta talk to JiBbo about JiBbo stuff. It’d be great to get more people on (he had Valle a month or two back) and it would be nice if he or Tatsu or KingD talked a few of the bigger names up at Evo, but I dunno if they did or if those guys are nice or anything. It’s a good idea though, celebrity endorsements.
My god that video is funny there is something about how prim and proper she is then you see her face in that video and all the stupid movements that get to me. The ending when she keeps going to her home planet is priceless.
All two of us? Three? I don’t know. We should stage some hype matches. I’ll ante up my acting skills and scream and rage at your amazing and smart decisions.
