Calm down, I know that. At most I’ll jump back on it for non-fighting games obviously, but I’ll keep to my stick.
I will say the stick was bigger than I expected it to be, and the buttons respond so quick (which of course makes my pinky a bit of a problem). Just have to get used to super canceling then I can focus on straight consistency and get back the things I could do with Rose before.
calm down? i’m not yelling lol. anyway either you can hover your fingers above the punches or between the six buttons. how is your pinky in the way? I just use three fingers. pointer for 1st row, middle for 2nd, index for 3rd.
It’s not so much in the way, but I’m used to resting my pinky on something for typing, and it feels weird to have it do nothing. I have long fingers, so sometimes by accident, it hits something like Roundhouse, so you know, it’s weird. Other than that, my placement’s not bad, but I’m still working around how to do different things with my hand for efficiency.
As for my grip, I think it’s fine, it’s certainly more comfortable than the freaking XBOX controller, so I’ll live.
It definitely takes time getting used to a stick. What hurts me when I use a fight stick, is the button placement. The first two weeks I started using a stick at CTF, it felt really weird. Gradually over time, I started getting used to it. I used to focus attack a lot by accident, because of my finger placement. It wasn’t until week 4 that I was playing near pad functionality, and I could feel the Ultra coming out naturally as I did the QCB 2x + 3P motion. I hope when I go to CTF tomorrow, I’ll adjust quickly again. It’s been two weeks.
if the buttons are a problem for you, you can always switch them for Seimetsus or something as they’re not as super responsive like Sanwas, but are still good.
as for finger placements, usually they’ll lay on top of the punch buttons. But everyone plays different.
wont be able to make it to this week’s training session. I’m going to Project Failure’s Friday Night Blackout in Naugatuck, CT. Anyone in NY, CT, NJ, MA should come support. Jon does a great job hosting these, and theres $2 freshly grilled burgers!
Stick update, I would say my stick Rose is about at…80-85% to my pad Rose now. Super Cancel still a bit shaky, but it’s all starting to come together again.
There will be no training session at all this weekend. I’m actually going to my very first tournament tomorrow after making my decision late tonight. I’m going to be repping Rose, with no counterpicks at all. Hopefully I’ll do well…who knows how far I’ll get? I’m using my 360 controller…no stick. We need more Rose representation out there, and I intend to represent her well.
Speaking of stick, I’d say I’m around 90-95% back. Super Canceling is almost back again, I’m starting to get what I want. Just have to get back the Spiral strength switching and getting more comfortable getting into diagonals, because I’m getting hit when I thought I was blocking or I’m getting c.MK instead of slide.
Also, I’m getting random ass inputs when doing satellite…and it’s not even the usual EX Reflect, which I don’t even mind, since it’s recovery isn’t bad and it’s actually decently safe on block. I’m randomly getting EX Soul Throw, and on TWO occasions, Aura Soul Spark (though one of them actually won me the match because the dude wasn’t expecting it).
Great to see that you are adjusting to the stick rather quickly. So it’s 4:34 am, and I planned on getting rest for the tournament. I guess that won’t be happening :(. I blame insomnia.
So I got 2-2 in the tournament, beating two Balrog players. I lost to Blanka (I hate him so much now), and Akuma (I can train myself better in this match-up). I stayed at the venue until roughly 10:30 pm, playing tons of casual matches with other players. For the most part, I won the majority of them. I faced Cammy, Makoto, Viper, and a few others. I plan on going to the next Guard Crush tournament in roughly 2 weeks; you’ll probably see me on the stream. I definitely plan on training with Rose a bit more. I will be able to host a training session next week, but I’ll have to work out the date.
