Quick question. For some reason I have a rough gritty pattern forming on my balltop. I dunno if it’s because I keep it stored in a bag or what, but is there a way to get rid of it?
yep it is because of that It also happend to me once. I just set them on something or keep them in soft foam. In time the wrinkels of the bag will start to mess up the clear coat. some foam rubbers and plasics will also mess up the finish. take a piece of 2000 grip sand paper and wet sand it. then polish it with rubbing compond then scatch doctor and it should be good as new. If that don’t work I will paint you another one but keep it on a stick or just set it down on the metal insert so nothing happens to it. I still use mine and they look good as new but I never store them in bags or anything I just screw them onto bolts of the same size that I placed in a piece of wood. I am so sorry I forgot to tell you that but I fig you was putting it on you stick.
take a pic and post it so I can see what happened. I use a clear laq not urethane so it is not as strong as a cars clear coat.
MUFASA2> I was going to keep that one secret but what the hell. If you have a vinyl cutter or know someone that does use that or just use a exacto knife and be really careful. this works because I use a 1/4in lexan panel with a 1/8plexi acrylic top and 1/8 at the bottom. if you use a mdf control panel lol you are shit out of luck lol. black out the top of the lexan not the bottom do not use paint you must use vinyl or contact-brand. Figure out what parts you want to light up if it is blue ink on the printout use blue if white use white so on,. NOT el panel I use LED’s but you can play around and see what works for you. anyway after you have choose your spots, outline those spots- if you have a vinyl cutter simple have it cut your outlines, make sure that the sizes of the vinyl black and the printout are exact so when they are butted up there is a perfect aliments. So now that you have you spots open for light you can add your colors or white lights. I sand down my LED’s to make them glow more and not be so direct, but there are smaller white LED’s strips that would also work really good. just place them underneath the spots you want to glow. you will have to black out the bottom as well so no light escapes and I built a little casing for mine so it traps the light but I probably didn’t have to. also paint the control panels joystick hole with black too black that out, unless you want it to glow. no need to do it to the top piece leave that piece beee light should not affect it. I added 3 more white led?s to the back and now it really glows. what I think is kool, if you look close it looks real, like the white light is highlighting his face-that is sooo freaking cool to me lol. Hope I explained it good and you can get something out of it. and thank you. I used the 3.5v white LED’S you can get at radio shack and placed a cpl resistors too it then used the vcc of the board to power it.
francys pai, I tell you what I will just make you another one, If I saw the pic I will know if it was my mistake or the bags.
here is my globe top that was use for awhile I no longer have the dorm stick so I just keep it will my other ones for now till I make another dorm stick. but I use the same flake paint on this as I did on yours just pink not green and it is fine so. I am pretty sure the bag destroyed.

It’s on an actual stick. But I keep my stick in an Evo stick sack. It is definitely because of the bag (same pattern). But it just surprised me is all haha. I’m a little scared of wetsanding it incase I do it too much and scratch through the paint. I might just shove some rubbing compound on it and see if that helps any.
Thanks Ronin. I asked because my build(I havent made a thread yet) i will be doing something similar but since mine will be a a large scale, I can’t really use el panel because it will end being 500+ just for the el panel sadly so i did researching on how to get my template to light up in certain places. Thank you sir. it helps greatly. If you want to know more details lmk and i will PM it to you but until i get all the parts and some woodwork done, i cant really start a thread yet. thanks bro
oooooo what you got bruin up. sounds pretty sweet so far. you can always just use floresent lights if it is on a large scale and you can get your print out on transperensy film so that the whole thing lights up.
only teaser. 4 player multiconsole led vewlix stand…thats all you get the build begins sir lol
that sounds sick!!!
Ronin, referring back to the first post of this thread: That sort of pastel-y samurai looking stick is incredible. It’s not a color scheme most builders would use, but you really killed it.
Also, the Spiderman stick is so simple and elegant. I love it! It’s probably in the top three of all the sticks I’ve seen on SRK. Keep doing such fine work, man.
wow thanks bro, yeah the Ninja Scroll stick is what got me to start selling them lol, it was my first good stick. the spidie stick was my second stick and my first lol well that thing was a Nightmare lol .
that color scheme was a crazy mix of color what I did was painted it a brushed metal copper look then sprayed a good 3 coats of green flake paint(not glitter paint) over that turned out nice. but It had many thing wrong with it I was still learning and still am.
thanks bro
new post: just a ball top I did today I am also working on a dino egg ball.

think I am going to start doing hand painted ball tops. I was just goofing off about ten min ago and I did this. took like 5min to do. I am going to cover the ball in diff faces and clear coat it. but it is just a practice ball I’ll do the real one when I get a good Idea to place them. I guess this opens doors for so many new ball tops. I like the brush much better than a can lol.

Those look so awesome!! <3
thanks I hope to do more to it later tonight, I got alot to do today so I may not get to it ={ I really want to finish it but I must put my time into my other jobs for now.
that face looks pimp!
yeah thats just a quick sketch to see how the paint flows. I can’t waint to start going crazy with my balls, wooo hoo. I got so many Ideas already. jack o lantern ball, kurby ball, moon ball, hell anything really. Once my paint set gets here I will have opaque colors to use
oooo that jacko ball/ pumkin head will be soo ill… I was thinking I could black out everything but the eyes, nose and mounth of the pumkin head. by using a candy ball that is a yellow see thru after painting the pumkin I can just add a LED and have it glow like a real jack o lantern lol.
Say. Have you ever used Tamiya paints? They’re probably my favourite. Amazing quality and they do translucent colours.
na but I will look it up! wonder if it is a usa company or Euro. I am just using airbrush paints to do the brush work I need opaque color so the values stay the same, all I got is pearlized color for now. but I want to start getting Createx Wicked colors and
Auto air colors they look insane. they sent me a catalog with all there paints and I am really impressed =)
I think they’re Japanese paint but I’m not 100%. Though a forum my other half visits, a lot of US guys have managed to find them. They do all kinds of sprays. From sprays to air brush ones. (The forum is called “Procustomizers” They mainly do things like Transformers repaints and stuff. It’s pretty cool :3)
As an example, a guy called Encline does some amazing stuff with Tamiya paints;
http://www.enclinedesigns.com/
Guess it just gives you options and stuff to experiment with
I will deff try it out I like the way he painted the hand and made it look like scraped up metal that is cool, more like a real life paint job like realistic or whatever.
and thanks so much for that extra option =)
