Rolento General Discussion

Does anyone have rolento frame data

You have to play this character really and I mean really lame, and you basically have to play perfect all the time. I think hes ok but he does not out class the soon to be listed top tiers by the community. He has options but you have to have that perfect defense when people are balls deep on you.

Learning to be a better Rolento player makes me a better player in general. Just sayin’

That’s what all of the Akuma players said about Akuma. Nobody really contested that either until, you know, everyone and their grandma jumped on the bitchfest bandwagon.

I agree with those though. Rolento is a footsie monster. He blows up people without good fundamentals or patience. He is really good at bait punishing as well. Playing Rolento has definitely improved my spacing with other characters.

Rolento need’s his jumping heavy punch hitbox fixed. Only thing really worth saying. The staff goes right through others all the time.

He also needs faster walk speed.

And fs.hp needs less recovery.

And wall jump should be controllable.

I could go on…

Nope, it’s useless as all they have to do is mash literally any button to hit you out and continue pressure.

Character is ass without his gimmicks which people are already adapting to, and it’s barely day 2. He gets absolutely raped by pressure, and his only escape option will be useless in a couple weeks once people adapt.

He is also extremely free to crossups having no answer to them, which leads into the sucks at dealing with pressure part.

His only useful anti air (besides ultras) is really unreliable thanks to it’s whopping 3 active frames, so timing it to make sure it doesn’t get stuffed or that it doesn’t whiff is strict as hell. It also seems to have a shitty front facing hitbox to deal with normals like Hugo j.hk and Cammy j.hk.

His normals are decent, however, he is free to long range focus attacks because st.hp only gets both hits from close range. Him struggling against long range focuses, again leads back into the dealing with pressure problem.

His grounded mobility is actually worse than most of the cast. Awful dashes, horrendous walkspeed, and lack of consistent anti air means his footsies aren’t that good, certaintly not as good as everyone thought they were.

All of his pressure options are not only unsafe, but they also do mediocre damage, have bad range, and leave him in a situation where he can’t follow up with more pressure.

His only redeeming qualities are his ultras. They both do good damage and have multiple uses that help him with some of his problems.

Tl;dr: This character is garbage simply put. All of his problems lead into each other, and those problems are pretty major. He pretty much relies on gimmicks and ultra comebacks, and can’t do a lot else. Unless some crazy tech comes out, I can’t see this character being a factor in anything outside of low-level play. So unless you’re like me and just reaaally love the character, there is no reason to play him competitively.

St. MP is fine as AA at most angles, he has above averages A2A with Jump LP

PPP is not always an answer but if they’re always trying to cover it they’re giving up options on Oki

His pressure options aren’t that unsafe WTF

Congrats, Rolento has the problem he’s always had of not ahving a reversal, but this time he has the chance to escape with EX QCB+K which while not invul is really fast and on the right read can get you out

His footsies are fine, his walk speed is a bit on the slow side but he trades that for great reach on a ton of normals, learn your ranges and options and ways to use Knife and PPP in footsies

rolento always had a reversal in the old games via alpha counters, and he had the best ones.

ex qcb+k would be a great reversal but 99% of the time, it leaves you back to square. same with his ppp dodge.

standing mp’s active frames got chopped in half, which makes no sense.

offensive options and footsies aren’t bad. but no mobility, no runaway and no wakeup really sucks.

Yeah he has problems but it’s not as doom and gloom as people make it out to be.

Initial thoughts: Feels sluggish. He was a blast to play in SFxT, a lot of the stuff that was fun about him in that game has been removed in this one. Mix ups are much weaker, some frame traps gone, ranges reduced. Love that he is the quintessential focus breaker though. I don’t see top tier though, but mid to mid high in this game.

Frame Data!

Wow

Indeed he reminds me of Chun without as much pokes. People thought he would be an offensive mixup juggernaut. But you play him similar to Chun or Vega. Lame poking game. Fits my play.

St. HK is strong than I expected. Hurts too. Strong trip. Goes half screen. Don’t forget his Focus. Long range. Should be incorporated in everyone game.

As with alot of these types of characters he has weak wake up but seems solid.

As i said few posts back he needs hes invincibility on EX patrion circle back or he has no chance in this game. I’m super disappointed in this game as at is in genral. It looked so much better in thr arcade build. Now everthing seem the same as it was in AE on a lot of the chars I play (and thats mega boring) and rolento which I love as a char just sucks so I dont want to even bother.

Also lolz at the people that think hes footsies master. What makes a charcter a footsie master is a lot of good normals and that godlike ONE that just does tons of work in every matchup. Rolento has some good normals , some bad but thats about it.Nothing stands out. Everything that made him awesome in footsies in SFxT is pretty much gone. Hes awful now.

He’ll be decent even whit the all around averageness if he had that get off me move or you’ll eat an ultra (old ex patriot) but as it is forget about it. There are charters whit such amazing offence that he doesnt stand a chance.

I was pretty depressed when I first read the final change log on him as it was pretty drastic
I got mauled by Keev’s Dudley in the corner with not much solutions besides gambling a neutral jump or a random ultra…

On thing I found in traing mode:
It is actually possible to combo ultra without meter with a CH cl FP: cl stFP (ch) , knife , (land) ultra 1 or 2
It make st Lp into st HP a pertty good frame trap. It’s pretty hard to do (gotta do the knife ASAP) but it works and can be a way to combo into ultra 2. I use 623K then piano PPP to get the right timing.
More generally, in close quaters it seems that a low to the ground knife into ultra 2 is hit checkable.
Overall the char seems so limited to me atm when you compare him to his SF X TK or CVS2 incarnation. QCBK not controlable in air ? WTF ?

Also I remember seeing ex PPP into ultra on arcade version, can’t do it on console atm, is it still here ? May be it’s possible if it hits someone airborne ?

Oh, poor Rolento. My initial reaction was that he was ass. Then I got a few good wins with him and thought he had potential. Now I’m looking at what everyone else is saying, and now I’m pretty sure he’s ass.

QCB+K and QCB+P don’t exist. They just don’t. Just take them out of the game that’s how useless they are. Stinger will get you kicked in the face, because his hurt box becomes GIGANTIC. Jump attacks that would whiff against Rolento’s neutral jump easily hit Stinger.

The only success you can have with Rolento is getting in and trying to pressure, but if the opponent blocks (which is easy to do), he’s back to square one. All the mind games and trolling that Rolento had in previous games are gone. It’s just go in, hope to get a hit, and maximize your combo. No zoning, no mix-up game, not even decent pressure. I’m appalled.

Haven’t played a ton of him but I’m really enjoying him. Didn’t know they removed it and ate some attacks and started freaking out. Yeah. If I could have one thing for Rolento it’d be that. He’s great otherwise.

Edit: Oh wait. 1-3 frames more active st.mp.

He’s doesn’t seem THAT bad. I’m sure he’ll be around mid tier.
I’m pretty positive that as time goes on he’ll be extremely rare/non-existant in tournament level play, but I definitely don’t think he’s bottom tier like some of you are making him out to be. I mean he does have some redeeming qualities. His combo damage seems good, his poking is decent (not great but I’d say slightly above average) and both of his ultra combos are good.

The only issue I have with him atm is his j.hp hitbox. It’s much smaller than the animation would have you believe.
