Yeah the punish video is incorrect, the only FADC forward punish he has for U2 is kens dp 2nd hit FADC forward. He does however punish all DPs FADC backdash with Ultra 2 which is super good imo.
I might be just god awful but im struggling to punish dp fadc forward this rolento, seems his fastest normal for punishing it is crouch short into combo which i can’t seem to get consistently atm, I assume throw is a through and through punish?
EDIT: I say all but i’ve only checked on Ryu, Sagat and Ken so far. Will check out more characters to see if its universal
Doesn’t work against Blanka, Cammy, Dan, Decapre, Dudley, Elena, Poison and Rufus everything else (Gouken ex Tatsu, Cody ex Upper, Guile Flashkick, Sakura ex DP, Rufus ex Messiah) punishes the backdash. I did notice though you haven’t got much leniency in the punish so you have to know and react perfectly to punish
I only tried using ex moves were applicable to characters without invincible moves with no use of meter.
EDIT: Only just thought about the possibility of if the reversal was spaced, and for example if yang spaced his dp on the tip and FADC backdashed then U2 couldn’t punish, same with guile. However if you were to bait it on their wakeup (be within throw range) then it will punish the backdash. I’ll probably only use U2 against fireball/zangief anyway so it only strengthens it’s utility imo
I think that the removed invincibility on EX patriot hurts him a lot. Knwoing it was there and now I get to play whitout pisses me off. Almost ruins the char for me tbh.
Make it so i the ultra after it would do shitty damage or something but leave the invincibility. Almost every charters has something. All rolento has is escapes which are alright but are not a good dp tupe move. You cant put the fear in people and they will go apeshit on you especially in the corner and all you can hope for is to get alway which is not that big of a deal.Hes no sim wen it comes to zoning, not even close. The flip and the wall jump are just not enough.
He had it in x tekken and its not even what it made him good in that game. And turst me the escapes he has now are “good” beacuse people are not use to them yet. Its pure gimmicks. Whitout a solid invincible reversal hes dead in the water in this game.
Well as I see it you have a couple of choices Beganoo, you can keep playing rolento and block like the rest of us and find cool ways to executing/dealing with pressure, or you can play one of the other 5 new characters or revisit the buffs of an old character
I suppose there’s a reason why there’s never been a tournament winning character without a good DP. This game relies heavily on that reversal comeback factor. Fei, Cammy, Ryu, Akuma, Sagat, Balrog, Seth, Rufus and anyone else who’s been a contender in tournaments has always had a way to blow you up with an invincible reversal on wakeup.
Your right, it isn’t alpha or cvs2 mobility, but I feel like in this game that aside from his dashes and walljump that his grounded mobility is strong when coupled with his normals.
Maybe ex rekka being invincible isn’t asking to much, but personally i would prefer a faster dash then an invincible wakeup reversal
Yeah his mobility is far from amazing. With his options it seems as if he has great mobility, but they can be shut down rather easily and it will only get worse in time. Rolento is good online atm because nobody knows what their character can do against him. I’m learning rolento to both play him and fight against him and I like his movement but I can’t see it being a big asset in high level play. It’s kind of gimmicky from what I’ve experienced so far.
I think ex rekka is fine as it is. I really like the range, it catches people after a cr.mk where normal rekkas would whiff. Btw, anyone know what I should be doing after ex rekka other than U1?
man, wtf did they do to rolento? his runaway game is next to non-existent and still no scouter jump.
aside from a few gimmicks, his mekong delta escape is useless. all of his mekong delta escapes land midscreen or closer to the opponent. you can’t even hug the wall to bait out dps anymore.
and once he gets pressured, he get rushed down badly, especially in the corner due to his slow dash, slow walk speed and no invincible wakeup reversal. ex mekong delta would be a great escape move but as i said in the last paragraph, it puts you midscreen or closer to the opponent, thus going back to square one.
they took away his ex roll and ex patriot circle from the arcade version and gave him nothing in return.
cvs2 and alpha rolento didnt have a dp BUT he always had the best alpha counter. his a2 and v-ism a3 alpha counter lets him escape corners easily. cvs2 rolento’s alpha counter was +10 on block. also, he had access to custom combos in alpha series and cvs2 which had invincibility during activation. last but not least, rolento can roll cancel scouter jump lp in cvs2, which works very similarly like a dp.
Example - crossup j.mk, st.hk, cr.mk xx lp rekkas will whiff. Heavy hits every time though.
I’m using light for most of my stuff but heavy definitely has uses.
I usually try to use medium rekkas because it feels a bit safer on block and then I dont get the wiff from light rekkas, am I wrong? what is the actual frame disadvantage on block -3?
