Ok, I decided to give Rolento a try and holy crap, the lack of decent wake-up option really hurt him. At least Vega has some moves that goes fast. Rolento doesn’t really (maybe EX Roll).
They nerfed him hard while Yun is supposedly back to be almost as good as vanilla AE Yun.
Thats FINE. Make me use FADC to get a ultra whit EX patriot like its whit rufus.3 meters for reversal > ultra.
Or something like "press MP and HP for invincible patriot but you cant link ultra after and press LP and MP for normal EX patriot whitout invincibility but you can combo ultra after. See, its easy.So easy to make it balanced but actualy good.
I don’t care about the stupid ultra anyway, just for the love of god Capcom ,you need to give him that one good wake up/reversal option. Most of the cast has something like that… why not rolento.Hes gets raped for free.
If you dont want him to have good normlas (cus he doesn’t, lets be real… everything is so iffy) you need to give him atleast good reversal.
blah blah, same story, same answer, can we just stop talking about it and move on, or do we need 1000 other people to pick him up come in and say he shit and needs a reversal and leave?
Also just random point for rekka being -3 at best… you realize cr.mk is -5… no one bitching about that(please don’t start, use your brains as to why that would be)
So what are people finding the best usages for meter are now? I love having one saved for EXPC in the corner for some reset goodness. Otherwise for the most part I’m using it on PC FADCs, on hit or or block, just to stay in peoples face and keep the momentum. I’ve been toying with EX stinger but I’m just not finding much practical use so far when i have EXPC. EX escape is handy in the corner as well but I’m focusing on blocking more and trying to get momentum started.
If the opponent is bad though ppp cancel into super all day
i think Rolento is fair with just one or two exceptions, but all in all you have to play solid and control space on the ground as well the air. do not let yourself become predictable and remember to play solid footsies. i love this character even if he is not the best i don’t care i wanted him in this game since super and now he is here so enjoy it. any advice on match ups ???
The point of a good reversal is not to mash it but to have people respect it. To try to bait it so you have some breathing time. Its an entire mind game. Most of the cast has something like that. Its huge part of SF4 series.Do you people realise at what huge disadvantage rolento is just because he lacks this “mind game” ? Its kind of a big one. People can press buttons for free and never, ever stop.Go all out every single time and why not.No risk for them, no risk management need. Oh no,he he will waste a meter on the wall escape… no one gives a shit if they don’t get hit.
literary 90%+ of the cast has some sort of a good reversal attack but no rolento gets fucked. Nice balancing there capcom.
Don’t let yourself get put in that situation then. You have to play him with a similar mindset that you would with Vega or Dhalsim. What I mean by that is that you need to space yourself in order to avoid situations where your lack of a reliable reversal becomes a problem. Despite his slow walk and dash, Rolento still has great movement options, far reaching normals, and evasive attacks. His tools can make him really hard to pin down, so if you get knocked down, its because you messed up.
Even vega has hes leg flip (the charge move, forgot what is called) that is better reversal that anything rolento has.On top of all that both vega and sim have much better normals then rolento and having that in mind they were still low tier for the longest time. Why would I want to play a weaker versions of sim and vega… if rolento had A LOT of hes normals buffed and did what the animations suggest they should be doing.Ok then you can argue hes like vega and sim and the old ex patriot would be too much.
Hes obviously bad.Can anyone really deny that? Why are you trying to argue whit me. I’m not asking for some OP crap. I want a char whit avrage movest overall to have a reversal. You know like most charters (bad or good) in the game…
Using ultra 1 after EX stinger drops from a lot of distances for me. But I found that if you hit the EX stinger, you can immediately do the EX patriot circle to confirm your hit and pop them up even further, giving you a guaranteed mid-screen ultra 1 from really far away. Like the tip of Ryu’s sweep far away. If the EX patriot circle pops them up, the ultra always hits. If you’ve got the meter to spend, it’s super useful in footsies, especially against people who throw out lots of lows. Or try doing it after a c.MP, using the +frames from that move to counter hit with the EX Stinger.
I also really like using EX Air Raid as a reset during the cl.HK>c.MK BnB, it’s fast enough that people get caught by it if you haven’t shown it before. If the reset hits, you’ve got immediate stun on most of the cast. Just do something like j.HP>cl.HK>c.MKxEXAir Raid>cl.HK>c.MKxRekkas. Get a counter hit on the initial hit or the reset and it can do over 1150 stun. Do it without a jump in at the start and you’re one hit away from stun at most.
You can also do j.HP>cl.HK>c.MKxEXAir Raid>cl.HK>c.MKxEX Patriot Circle>Ultra1. With the reset you end up doing like 70% health and it leaves them at up to 997 stun. So 70% down and one jab away from stun and dead.
I often feel like Rolento matches can be really grindy. You’re just kind of slowly chipping away at people with a suffocating neutral game, but big damage can be hard to come by if you don’t land a jump in. However, landing the EX Air Raid reset can win you the round immediately, definitely worth trying from time to time.
Lol yun almost as good as AE yun? Not even close. What game are you playing?
Backflip and ex walljump for corners are his best wakeup options but really you just need to block and tech. As others have said, sweep is good too for sliding away.
I just got focused and ultra combo’d by elena after my backroll overhead animation went right through her, the guy even messaged me saying wtf.
I mean I know why, the active frames are small so it was probably badly timed, but it still looked really stupid. lol
Anyone figure out the spacing for Delta Air Raid to cross up? It sometimes crosses up when I do it midscreen and I definitely want to get it to cross up when I want it to.
I beat a tournament level Vega with Rolento the other day. He got mad as hell and started sending FT10 messages lol. One great thing in this matchup is that you can just use PPP right before Vega lands a wall dive. Sure, you could block and punish otherwise, but you could end up getting thrown, too, and this is completely guaranteed damage. So nice. Can’t give too much advice on the matchup as I have only played it a couple of times, but yeah, I haven’t lost to Vega yet.
Also … I have to say it is my impression that Rolento sucks. And I don’t say this from playing him myself. No, I bumped into a Rolento when I was using Gen, and damn he feels easy to beat. Roll mixups don’t really work because all I have to do is cr HK whenever Rolento does PPP. Gen can just play the poking game with Rolento, and while Rolento will have a hard time jumping in on Gen, jumping in on Rolento won’t be too hard. Plus Gen has a safe sweep while Rolento does not. And I don’t even consider these things that character specific. Rolento simply seems to be a lot about gimmicks – gimmicks that won’t work in the long run, and unfortunately I believe he will end up weak.
I felt Rolento was borderline broken when I used him myself, but maybe I simply outplayed my opponents, because he is like no threat at all when I face him myself.
Yes we get it rolento is bad but can the doom and gloom not like be a everyday thing? This is what some other guys and Fullmetal ross is getting at, yeah it sucks he doesn’t have a good reversal let alone invinsiiblity to escape pressure but this is the limitation we all have to accept at the moment. All the negativity it just doesn’t help and ends up bringing down the people trying to learn rolento such as myself. One tip I use when it comes to playing low tier or seemingly weak characters is don’t focus so much on what your opponent can stop you from doing, but rather focus on what your opponent DOESN’T stop you from doing.
