Rochester, New York -- "That is a white ass menu..."

Hate to see it, but mad_kof is probably right. Back to KOF98 on GGPO!

@Coca Koala - Download an emulator and start playing Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting.

I’m now gonna blow your mind.

 The Alpha series has some good pacing for a Street Fighter subseries and has plenty of mechanics that still exist as staples in Capcom fighters today.

It’s got short and sweet combos, links aren’t retarded hard while still being necessary to learn somewhat and the footsie game is still exalted above all else.

Sweet music. Definitely some of the best to date, I think.

It’s just an enjoyable game; can’t say much for the rest of the franchise.

Super Turbo is good just to get a good feel for the roots of the genre. It is MADD fun even when you’re getting crushed, but like SFIV, it’s more of a science than most other SF games. Definitely a good game just to play and develop a strong sense of risk/reward. Punishes in that game are like getting dropped off a cliff, ROFL.

Shoutouts to the EX series, though. What I wouldn’t give to play as Pullum Purna and Skull-O-Mania again, LOL.

3S would probably be the best entry to get in on though because the throw teching in that game is the same as 4’s and that’s like one of the first things you need to get a good grasp on, especially with so many Dive Kick characters present in SF4.

Alpha 2 is really fun though, Custom Combo’s get a bit nutty, but overall it’s a good game. Alpha 3 on the other hand… fun, but lordy, some of the shit in this game.

Super Turbo is good too because that game teaches you not to jump in recklessly. Alpha series has air blocking, and in 3S, SRK type moves have weaker priority, plus you can parry in the air, you see a bit more jumping around in those games. So SF4 is more like ST in that regard.

 Speaking of which

definitely didn’t see Dive Kick anywhere recently…

…hmmmmmmmmm…

Try AE and Alpha 2

3S is good but can be pretty harsh

And then there’s parries…

Oh God, no just play 3S.

BTW, apparently the PS2 version of CvS2 on Japanese PSN has alot of input delay, so f’ that noise. :frowning:

I have to be an ass and add my .2 because I’m the 3S guy even though my skill level is probably average at best.

3S I’d recommend if you have other people to play with offline. If not, I’d recommend playing on GGPO (it’s back under Street Fighter Tres, though a ton of 3S trolls are still in the Karnov room last I checked) or wait until the latest patch is out.

As for the game it self I’d recommend it. No one really plays like they do in SF4 except maybe Akuma. Throw teching is much harder. But the game is one of the deepest and most rewarding fighters you can play. It’s infinitely rewarding and teaches you pretty much everything when it comes to 2D fighters except for maybe Marvel.

Every character can do something but I would not recommend using Twelve, Sean, or Q to start out with.

 Man, all this Street Fighter talk has me in a bit of a funk.

Can we talk about mass murder or AIDS or something?

Actually, let’s talk about how I’m going to steal Matt’s NeoGeoX while he’s not looking.

@Coala - Play some A2. All of the characters are fun and have interesting fighting styles and animation. Not everyone looks like they are on steroids like in SF4 and, like Yannick said, the soundtrack is great.

I view the game system as a modified version of super turbos. The main differences between the two are that Alpha allows air blocking and contains custom combos and multi-level super arts.

Nooo I need someone to lame out with Guile :frowning: Please come back everyone, I promise I won’t sit back in the corner and sonic boom. I’m even learning a legit character, Yang! Come back!

As 3S was my first legit fighting game, it took me a while to realize the nuances of fighting games in general, and 3S itself. In the beginning your probably playing Ken spamming sweeps and parrying long-distance fireballs, thinking your the shiznit. Seriously, sweeps was the scrub go-to move for everyone, much like how Ken’s shoryuken is now, or Hulks mashing H/S (hah!)

3S is probably a frustrating game to learn, there’s little room for error. Then again, it’s probably harder learning AE first then 3S after, so meh.

 Yang is super fun, dude.

i’m numb from all my favorite work-people getting laid off around me. anyone up to hang and game tonight?

This guy

I like the way you think, AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE…

I’m really sorry Gary.

If its any consolation: the fact that you still have your job means your pretty safe, I mean they can’t really prune things down any further, right?

But yeah, if the people I liked got fired at work, I would be legit upset.

 My PC is back in action! The Command Center is nearing 100% completion!

That sucks, man. I’m pretty free to come over for a couple hours tonight, just let me know when.

Hope you’re doin’ alright, Gary. I’m sorry that I couldn’t hang out with you tonight, man. School literally stuck it’s foot in my ass today and I’m still trying to dislodge it.

Also, lol @ Tony. You seriously never post in this thread unless you’re talking shit or trolling, so why would you expect us to ever believe that you are doing any thing else?

Hey guys, my name is Rami Jackson and I am originally from NJ.I have just recently moved to Upstate NYC and I am enrolled at Syracuse University and I am so glad to finally find a close scene. Everyone here plays Call of Duty, FiFA or Madden so there no fighting game buffs here. As for myself, I am mostly dedicated to SSF4:AE2012 as I want to become a top player and then the best player but I do have some casual MvC2, VF5:FS, 3S and TvC knowledge under my belt. I really want to get into KOF, Persona and all the 3D games, espicially Tekken since upstate NY seems to be a Tekken Heaven. I have an Xbox 360 console and a TV that I could bring to any meet ups and I have a harddrive with MvC2 and VF5:FS on it. I hope to come to your meet ups soon and its great to finally find a scene.

It was nice playing with you guys tonight; I’m gonna sit down this week and grind out a couple 2.5 or 3k combos, and hopefully I’ll be able to put them into regular rotation in a week or two. As always, I learned a lot, even when I was getting wrecked.

Cpt. Ginyu, nice to meet you. Syracuse University is almost two hours from Roc proper, I think, but if you make it out here, the community is about as friendly as I could ask for, and they’re pretty welcoming to new faces.
