that K-Brad

all I have to say

Even though I’ve forsaken SF4, that was a pretty hype grand finals.

the venue lit on fire when K-Brad bopped Infiltration’s raging demon

@Dan - Remeber last week I told you about that guarding back-dash thing?

i placed 2nd at the boston major for marvel

We didn’t have weeklys last Saturday because I figured people would want to watch Seasons Beatings.
I think another game-day this Saturday would be good.

That AE grand finals, I’m pretty sure my neighbors heard me getting hype.
Also, that “draw” in Marvel hype was hilarious. Frutsy still showing he can still go far.

Also, trying to quit that Hulk-drug. I think I’m going with Chris/Captain America(Charging Star)/Arthur for the extended flamethrower combos.
Or maybe stars and stripes so I have a “GTFO” button for Chris.

 Updated the first post with Oscar’s stuff for Saturday.

As an aside at whatever wants to do this weekend, I’d like to start a danisen league for Persona and/or Tekken. If you guys are interested, please let me know. I’ll be happy to post rules and whatnot about what a danisen is and how it’s run; it’s different from ranbats in that it’s not bracket-based, so you can play as many times as you’d like. Hope to hear some feedback and see everyone this weekend!

Gonna get Persona 4 Arena today, I hope. Store better have a copy of it in.

I’d happily participate in whatever for persona; more excuses to play is always good for me. What’s the story on a danisen?

 I’m so glad you asked.

Danisen league explanation music.

A danisen league is essentially a ladder-based ranking league system loosely based on the dan systems used in go wherein you play against other players of a similar rank to yours in an effort to rank up and reach the next caliber of competition. Of course, players can also rank down and you can challenge players with the intention of ranking them down if that’s what you’re into. Since our scene isn’t terribly large for the time being, I’m slightly modifying the structure of the league to keep it competitive. Here are the details.

The currently available ranks are Kyu to 5th Dan. When we get more players, these ranks will grow in number accordingly.
The order of progression is Kyu, 1st Dan, 2nd Dan, 3rd Dan, 4th Dan, 5th Dan.
Everyone starts at Kyu. This is the beginning rank and there is no rank below this.
Each rank consists of 5 sublevels: -2, -1, 0 (neutral), +1, +2. The neutral position is where you start new ranks.
Kyu is considered 1st Dan 0. You cannot “promote” to 1st Dan and cannot be “demoted” to Kyu from 1st Dan.
Each qualifying match will award the winner 1 point and penalize the loser 1 point.
For example, if I (2nd Dan +1) am playing a match against Matt (2nd Dan -2) and Matt wins, I am now 2nd Dan 0 and Matt is 2nd Dan -1.
In order to promote or demote, you must play a match where you would reach either the +3 or -3 threshold for your rank.
Whenever you reach a different rank through promotion or demotion, you begin that rank at 0 (neutral).
For example, if I (2nd Dan +1) am playing a match against Matt (2nd Dan -2), this would be considered a demotion match. If Matt wins, he avoids demotion and I am 2nd Dan 0 with Matt at 2nd Dan -1. If Matt loses, I am now 2nd Dan +2 and Matt is 1st Dan 0 (Kyu).
Temporarily, qualifying matches only consist of play with someone within 1 rank of yourself in either direction. This may change according to skill gaps.
For example, Kyu or 1st Dan players can challenge other Kyu/1st Dan and 2nd Dan players. 3rd Dan players can challenge 2nd Dan and 4th Dan players.
You may challenge players in non-qualifying matches. These games will not affect either player’s ranking.
You may not challenge the same player twice in a row.

This is basically the long and short of it. I think this has a ton of potential (especially if we grow the crowd for this game) and is a little less strenuous than a ranking battle while evening out the results for the middle and bottom while preserving what will usually always be the top spots (UNLESS PEOPLE START STEPPING IT UP). Please let me know what you guys think and I see that some of you are already interested in this for Persona. I really would like to try it!

hooray I did it sort of

thank you pals for educating and supporting me. grats to damus and shi for their placings at GUTS

=)

You know I always ask the questions you like.

This is a little unclear. Why are you making a distinction between Kyu and 1st Dan if they’re the same thing? If they’re not the same thing, how do you go from Kyu to 1st dan, since you said that you can’t promote to 1st dan?

Other than that, I’m down with the idea.

 Kyu is just the descriptive title for the entry point.

That, and there is no 1st Dan -1 or -2, so it’s pretty much the “THERE’S NO WAY BUT UP” point.

You get to 1st Dan by simply winning a match in Kyu. You’ll go to 1st Dan +1. Two more wins and you’re in 2nd Dan 0.

Thanks for using me as part of your example Yannick.

Also I hope you enjoyed The Chris G Saga.

 I DIED @ Planet Namexico ROOOOOOOOOFL

Can we expand this to Tekken maybe?

I really like that game. Very solid and entertaining.

 Sure.

I watched a Tekken major in which First place was Eddy/Tiger and 3rd place was Kuma/Panda.

The next time someone tells me this game is designed so that you have to learn two characters, Im going to laugh in their face.

brb, maining Lee/Violet

tiger is a different character then eddy
different move properties, and animations
same as kuma/panda

jack 6 n p. jack 2 different characters
