Jaxel of Capcom USA spoke about why there is still no Mega Man 9, Mega Man X9 and Mega Man Legends 3. I found this to be very interesting.
*"Some of our people have discussed this with Inafune…
Old school Mega Man in general is in a very complex situation. There is strong demand in America for a MM9/X9/MML3. In the rest of the world, the opposite is true, Japan in particular. They really don’t want the old games. Inafune is aware of that, and it is something I’m certain he is figuring out how in the hell he can address it.
Until demand grows outside of America, there can be no old-school sequel. And for the record, Inafune has tried to bring the following projects to life:
MML3
MHX2
3)MMPU2
And those are just the ones I’m aware of. Give Capcom a few years, I’m sure MML3 will show up someday."*
And out of NOWHERE, Mega Man Powered Up’s sales have risen in Japan, beating out Devil May Cry 4 over there, but not Monster Hunter of course - the Monster Hunter games sell a million a piece in Japan.
Well, Rockman 9/Mega Man 9 is now just days away from release, thought I’d mention my impression of my newest bound acquisition:
Rockman & Rockman X Official Complete Works R20 20th Anniversary
Far out book. Mega Man art fans get it if at all possible. So wishing that one day Capcom will make a similar book for SF.
Curious question for MM9: anyone know if Mega Man will have his charging mega buster in the game? Wondering because I keep seeing just regular shots from video clips.:wonder:
Oh hey the newest issue of Play magazine has a big interview regarding MM9 with Hironobu Takeshita of Capcom. No charge shot or sliding because the inspiration for MM9 is MM1 and MM2.
Ouch. That throws 3 thru 8+ to the winds. Guess that makes 9 the new 3.:looney: Unless 9’s declared to be its own what-if timeline tangent. Still gonna be weird.
Sliding I suppose you could rule out that way, saying yeah he has the ability to, but he doesn’t use it since no situation in 9 mandatorily calls for such squeezing or that extra burst of speed.
The charging though, I dunno. An ability he received since 4 (his story intro even mentions it) and has used it ever since? To say he’s got no need for that extra power boost especially when he hasn’t “fought in a while”?
Is he holding back since he’s up against Right’s robots and not Wily’s, such that he’s trying halt them but not destroy them altogether?
Is time taking its toll and he’ll overheat now with one arm if he charges, in a similar situation to Super Adventure Rockman with both arms?
Maybe it’s like the American cartoon and he can do it but he doesn’t? Afterall, I assume most of the games happen in that world in one way or another. I dunno. I just think of it like people having multiple supers in the SFZ series and having one a piece in SF2. They can do other things, but for whatever reason they don’t.
In MMPU you can unlock a special version of MM who can use a charge shot and slide even though MM of course couldn’t during MMPU / MM1. Who knows, maybe they’ll put in a version of MM who can charge/slide like they did in MMPU.
And the possible storyline explanation for why Mega Man is not using his charge shot - the weapons he gains in Mega Man 9 are actually USEFUL for once.
I beat Galaxy Man with Proto Man yesterday. He plays pretty good. He’s a little weaker than MM but it helps that enemies drop more energy orbs since they don’t drop bolts - Proto Man can’t buy things with bolts the way MM can. His shield can bounce projectiles back at enemies and he has 2 items. One that’s like Rush Coil and another that’s a lot like Mega Man’s #2 item in MM2, only you can maneuver the jet a bit like Rush Jet. Kinda wild that Proto Man does not turn colors when he uses items since MM always turns red and white, you know what wound up being Proto Man’s colors lol! Charging and sliding is hella fun!
If I remember right the creator of mega man wanted the main character to originally be all red. However the NES had limited shades of red and more colors of blue… Proto man’s current colors are likely based on the proto type color palette for a mostly red megaman on the NES. This also influenced/used on megaman’s palette when using items from dr.light. Zero is actual much closer to an update from his original pitched concept to capcom than X.
I think it was said (by him) during his episode interview on G4 about megaman.
I also speculate Megaman’s color changes were in part inspired by the creator not liking the color blue way back when.
And another possibility for the reason Mega Man doesn’t use charge shot in MM9, at least in the manga he was living peacefully, Light didn’t wish for him to fight anymore. So much so that MM to go to Cossack for him to upgrade Beat. With Light in jail he didn’t do anything to make Mega a ‘super fighting robot’ once again.
This seems kinda an improvement from Blues/Protoman from MM: Powered Up!
His shield on that game doesn’t reflect the shots, since he loses it after being hit once.
A pity that he doesn’t have an ending… I was hoping that his could have a connection with the X series, Rockman/MegaMan’s ending is kinda disappointing on that field too. Although that shows a REALLY mean Wily…
