Was at work today when I found out. I literally lost all motivation to keep going. Wandered around in a funk muttering “I can’t believe this shit” for like an hour.
Shit week already.
Was At Disneyland today as I read the news…damn…made tonight’s performance of the theme park shows a bit more emotional…
Truly we’ve lost one of the greatest comedic talents to grace the screen…
My heart and thoughts are with the Williams tonight.
I was born in 1978, which means Robin has been a significant part of my life since I was very young. What happened here is a tragedy, but maybe, hopefully, a wake up call that depression isn’t just feeling “bummed out”, it’s a very serious and life threatening condition. I am sad to think of Genie that sad, sad to think of Mork that sad. I am sad because someone who meant so much to me for so many years and shaped so much of who I am with his comedy and life is gone.
If anyone is interested, here is Marc Maron’s interview with Robin back in 2010 as well as his thoughts on the legend:
This quote has never felt so painfully apt:
“Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed, life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears.”But doctor” He says, “I am Pagliacci.” Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains.”
…Holy shit.
I got nothin’.
Better that he live as a laughingstock.
First time I saw him was in Mork and Mindy

His charm and larger than life personality was infectious, always seemed to have a tinkle in his eye whenever he smiled.
R.I.P a brilliant man
Find it real funny how the SAME NIGGAS that already said they have no respect for people that commit suicide are shitting on chrisg for saying it
It’s been said numerous times: comedians are some of THE most unhappy/depressed, screwed-up people in the entertainment business.
yeah, i doesnt take a genius to realize that people who kill themselves are probably dealing with some ish that poeple who would never consider killing themselves can not really fathom. …and Robin W. was perhaps the defining archetype of that manic comedy
Oh dang, Popeye. I used to watch that movie on repeat when I was a kid. Then I taped booby McFerrin’s ‘dont worry be happy’ and watched that ish on repeat becuase it had robin williams and that guy in the background in Popeye that kept kicking his hat down the road, doing physical gags an falling everywhere, Hahaa. Wore those two tapes out hard.
PS: and weird as it sounds I still ahve some of those songs (mostly Shelly Duvall) from popeye stuck in my head since I was little (I just rewatched them on youtube, kinda horrible but at the same time really special to me). I think these things from your developmental stages just kinda stick on you and bounce around in there forever coloring your subconsioucs. MAybe this is a reason why Robin is so beloved. Maybe someone so beloved diying from suicide will change people impression o fdepression.
Conan broke the news during his show

fuck, wake up, hop back into thread, get teary eyed
I’m reading he recently checked himself into a 12 step program, after working the past 18 months straight. He had a relapse a few years ago, too.
What hurts the most is that he always put forth such a funny face, and we all thought we knew Robin Williams, and then we hear about this, and find out just how wrong we were.
Fun fact: Robin Williams was the last guest for Johnny Carson.
I read today that Reeve said after he had his accident, Robin visited him in the hospital, pretended to be a Russian doctor and said he was going to give him a colonoscopy, and cheered him up.
Yeah, everything I read about him being this great guy that you could tell he was by the roles he took and the way he put it all out there when he was in one, and how he treated the people around him, yeah it breaks my heart.
Mental illness and addiction are the worst killers, if not by the numbers of things like cancer and heart disease, just the severity of how they kill you and how much of a empty shell they leave the people around you feeling like makes them.
I had two of my closest friends back home lose both their fathers to suicide in the time span of a year recently, both of them because of addictions. I only knew one of the dads, and he was the nicest guys you could meet, great conversationalist, made you always feel welcome and made you happy. It actually messed ME up when it happened.
Why do the Aussies have issue with him?
Robin Williams was one of the most talented comedians and actors around. Unfortunately his kind of talent comes with a price.
His manic comedic exploits, lucid introversion when not in character, and persistent drug abuse all stemmed from his mental issues; and one can tell from how he could effortlessly act on both sides of the spectrum.
Comedians like Greg Giraldo (R.I.P.) are some of the smartest people around. The talented ones live their lives with a keen awareness of just how fucked up life is, then spin it for our pleasure. The thing is, it takes its toll, especially for those who feel forced to maintain the façade 24/7 for the sake of others.
Then when they’re finally alone, they face a dramatic upwelling of pain and anguish that plagues them in various ways. Some quell it with drugs, alcohol, sex, or all of the above- or in the saddest of cases, suicide.
Comedy and tragedy go hand in hand…
Rest in Peace Robin Williams…
Hook, Jumanji, Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting all left a mark on me growing up, and he contributed.
Who said Australians hate Robin Williams? I’m an Australian I haven’t met anyone that said that
I don’t want to go out of topic with this rant but i’m getting sick and tired of the “we have to spread awareness of this issue” line whenever a death caused by depression or whatever random illness happens. As if spreading awareness is the actual prevention.
I think everybody has been aware of the realities of depression and other illnesses (or social problems) for YEARS, it’s just the fact that treating it cost SOOO much. I know for celebs like RW can afford it but since the news is speaking to the general public they should get a clue and realize that everybody is aware therefore “spreading awareness” is redundant. It’s actually lowering the prices for the shit that actually MATTERS. Fuck’n Americanas.
