RJ45 Detachable Cables - How To

You’ll need to make a cable for each system RJ45on one end the console adapter on the other so for the systems listed you’ll need to have 3 cables 1 usb for the 360/PS3 1PSX and 1 GC.

Thanks for the reply, guys. I knew I had to make separate cables but for some reason I didn’t think I would be able to support all 4 consoles with the wire limitations on the RJ45. I’ll read up more carefully and make sure that I got the wiring correct.

Thanks for the clarification. Coming back to stick building after so long is such a shock. The advancements in PCBs and wiring and overall stick craftsmanship is just amazing.

I wrote a tutorial for the Dual Modding a 360 and MC Cthulhu and have one RJ45 port coming out the back.

Haha, yeah I found that just after these guys answered my questions. That’ll definitely make my life easier. I just have to follow your kind steps and just make a couple cables. : )

In light of the new systems that are supported or soon to be… I think this thread is due for a rewrite to include Snes, NES, TG-16 and Saturn.

^ this. I miss me some old school gaming, and that’s really gonna come in handy.

I wonder if the RJ45 will work for Saturn cables myself…

I’ve got three Saturn cables saved from dead controllers… Well, they were fine until I tried to do some dual-mod work that just didn’t work out! At least I saved the cables…!

What I see as being a problem for RJ45 is that the Saturn has 9 wires coming out of the cable versus the maximum of 8 wires the RJ45 allows.

I know PS2 has at least 8 wires (in the cable) but only 7 are needed for the RJ45 mod.

Maybe RJ45 just isn’t going to work for the Saturn but that still needs to be verified…

IF worst comes to worst and this just doesn’t work for the Saturn, ToToTEK still has some PS2-to-Saturn converter boxes in stock. They work reasonably well with PS2-native joysticks and probably would work with the MC Cthulu, too…

Yeah Toodles is working on Saturn, but it works on 1 of 2 of my saturns and it broke TG-16 support.

For saturn there are 2 voltage lines. 1 which I think may be redundant or not needed for most controllers.

I was going to rewrite a new version of this thread because sadly Acceptablerisk hasn’t logged on in ages so no updates in the first post.
A new thread should have new info like the neutrik and switchcraft plugs. It is just about me having the time to do it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the wiring helps. Just waiting on the Neutrik to come in. Got my cables all made for my customer tonight.

Would I be able to use this method if I were to to use a PS DS PCB for single console support [I’m looking for a cleaner finish vs. having a long PS cord to wrap up]. If so, would I use the same pin areas that were used in the PS section of the guide?

You can use RJ-45 with anything that needs 8 or less connectors, so yes. The PSX cable has 9 pins, but pin 3 is 7.6v for vibration, and pin 8 is empty, so you only need 7 of 9 for a normal stick.

You can put the pins in any order you want at the RJ-45 receptacle, so long as they end up in the correct order at the end of the PSX plug. Personally, I would pin it out the same as in the guide in the first post, so that I could use the same cable with a Cthulhu RJ-45 setup later on if I got one.

I just did this mod using the cord from a 15 anniversary fight pad for ps2 and the wires in there fit perfectly inside an rj-45 connector. Really easy. Whenever I make sticks im using this method

Pics?

Thank You! I cant wait to try this. Any xbox 360 pin outs ? Looks like 4 wires, but I don’t know if they have wires within wires.

Duh! Its usb as you said in the first page. Thank you again I did it and it works ! Just remember to FLIPPLE check your wires! It took me 3 bad crimps to get it right.

Definitely bookmarking this. This will make my mod so much better.

I tried it with my table. Very simple Happ set up using the controller case mounted to the wood for the pcb. Making the cord detachable. Thank you again for this TUT! Pics may suck iphone cam. I ran to Home depot after reading this and all they had was this box. :-/ But it does the job. :) BTW I can do a much better job with the underside of table but I'm trying to keep cost down.
Hence the xbox controller for pcb, recycled cat5 wiring, Happ parts, And no art.:coffee:

not to toot my own horn, but you might want to bookmark the updated version of this thread. More info in that one about newly supported systems.
