Darn U Rey, Beat me to it:badboy:
some how the page ain’t working, but i do like that batsu.
Edit: Judging by near microscopic view(not ur fault; the site’s) it look okay but the final verdict might be in the streetfighter II #0 discussion thread tomorrow.
ehh not digging it. I was for the comic but ya not feeling your style with the comic.
U must have a better computer than mine, because i can barely see it let alone read it.
You have to click on one of the pages, then click “next”.
Maxx- you really shouldn’t judge the whole series based on the 1st 4-page backup story. The quality will improve, and by the time the actual 40-page, black & white comic drops, it will be a whole new experience. Hang in there. Or don’t, and miss out!
For real you guys, I am a fan of this game and I am dedicated to provide an entertaining comic adaptation of it. So far, I’ve created two of my own comic properties (“PENG” & “Sharknife”) which have been successfull and popular in the indy crowd… I’m not bragging! I’m just pointing out that I went after this project because I believe it will be really great, for both fans of my work, and fans of Rival Schools. Even if the comic is not 100% Edeyan-style accurate, I promise it will retain the essence of Capcom, and it will be FUN TO READ!
So, even if you are still not convinced by the time you see all the backups (which I doubt-- I’m working hard to get you guys pumped, now!). Please still check out #1, coz as I said, the actual comic will be a lot richer than just 4-page backup stories!
YOSH!!!
i’ll buy #1 just really not feeling it at the moment. Trust me i’ve been defending you on the board since you first posted stuff. Don’t worry you got at least one comic bought.
Also you still postin on artxilla or u done wit that site?
Rey, I’m a fan of your style, but as others have said I’m not feeling it for Rival Schools. But I’m gonna get the first issue and give it a shot, because you deserve that at least. I at least know the fights are going to be awesome, probably better than in SF hehe.
And it’s real cool of you to come on here to talk to us all. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.
Good luck!
So far so good.
Even though it still doesn’t scream ‘Rival Schools’ at me, i’m liking the way it looks. A lot, actually. My fears of it being too childish are just totally gone at this point.
For what it’s worth, i’m going to fucking love it…
One fan amongst all the haters…
It’s looking good, and January can’t get here soon enough. heh
How long is the RS back up going to run?
Rey’s style for Rival Schools is growing on me a bit. We’ll see.
Didn´t help one bit. Still doesn´t look like Rival Schools, still doesn´t look good enough to justify a purchase.
And why does Shoma look so big and muscular? Natsu should be the big bulky one, not him. Sakura looks her same size and build in those pages…
Also, they have a review of Peng, a comic Rey worked in recently:
http://www.buzzscope.com/reviews.php?id=5000
You can see 6 sample pages, too.
Doesn´t help Rival Schools´ case, either, because it really doesn´t look any good (even if the action is “the best ever”).
Heh, real harsh.
We will have to wait to see if it was actually a mistake to have JUST Rey working on RS by himself, but it was most definitely a risk taken by Udon.
Obviously the point was never to imitate the RS style (as mentioned more than once in the very thread), but to let Rey give his own spin and mood to the story.
If you think of it as an imitation, then the artists and writers are ALWAYS going to fall short, unless they renounce their creative freedom and JUST tell the original story and try to imitate the original style as closely as posible…real boring if you ask me.
I dont know if it will help anybody out there, but as soon as i stoped comparing it to RS i began liking it more and more with every sneak peek.
Of course, you dont have to (and shouldnt) make yourself like it, but i think we all owe it to ourselves to at least give it a try, since to me it’s real obvious that the Rey is trying really hard to pull this trough…this much dedication has plenty of potential.
The art is ok, I’m not going to fuss about it. As long as Rey make the fights much better than the SF comics I’m cool!
According to the credits in the back up story it was co-written by Erik Ko. Wonder if that collaberation will continue into the regular series?
I’ll pass.
Tragik, thank you for your thoughtful support. And yes, Erik will be plotting the entire RS comic. Mainly, as writer, I just add the snappy dialogue and clever action sequences, etc… Erik is there to ensure it follows the RS story closely.
Time Stop, comics are more than just making every panel look pretty. Comics are about the flow and feel of reading the actual story. People who have read PENG (actually read it, not just look at sample pages), have pretty much unanimously agreed that it is a well put together comic. My goal with PENG was not to make it look very glossy every panel, but to immerse the reader in the ACTIONS that were going on on each page. And, if the the reviews are any indication, I was pretty successful in doing so. (Actually, Buzzscope is one of the only bad-ish reviews I’ve seen for PENG-- pretty much everyone else loves it :] I think the Buzzscope guy just didn’t understand :])
Also, it is not a badly drawn comic. It’s not Capcom standards, sure, but I was not trying to attain that in PENG. And yes, it is not any indication toward the quality I will put on Rival Schools (however, any comics work done is GOOD experience for an artist, as practice, so it helped in one way or another)
Rival Schools is a much different project for me than any of my previous efforts. The first backup story, you can see me adjusting to it. And now, all you nice people on these forums get to see me adjust to YOU guys!!! Well, as you can see, I am in it to win it, I’m not gonna give up, and when the book finally comes out, I think a lot of you will be pleasantly surprised.
Anyway, I’m sure I’m on the verge of posting too much, so I’m gonna stop now. I’ve said my piece, and now it’s just up to the comic to sell you guys. I’m confident it will. It WILL be a different experience from the other Udon comics you have come to love, but it will still be GOOD!!! Maybe even GREAT!!! So just stay tuned!!!
YOSHH!!!
PS: oh yeah, cloud pic I did, but haven’t finished coloring coz im too busy with RS ^^;;; http://reyyy.com/cloud.jpg
i’m not being harsh but …
about daigo , he’s not that kind of cold-blooded and harsh guy , he don’t go blindly being mean person and calling others weak , that’s not manly .
i can’t help it but i want to correct things out abit .
like ken masters being titled ’ The Flaming dragon ’
daigo’s title is ‘THE MAN OF THE MEN’ ( baah capcom is being over-exaggerative and poor in english ) … basicly a well disciplined zen warrior( daigo practice Taikyokuken , a chinese martial art ) and not to forgot that daigo is a virtuous bold man .
which shows that he’s a true real man that protects the weak .
Ouendan edit :

*everyone * : " OSU !!! "http://img424.imageshack.us/img424/9465/osu5wb.th.jpg
I think all in all you’d have to be an artist to really understand where certain interpretations come from.
Having a unique stlye is what makes you stand out, or else you are just a cookie cutter artist.
What’s up my man J to the a L.
The link doesnt work! I wanna see:confused:
another artxilla poster?
