This one hit’s right in the feels of kid me.
This man was part of creating magic for my childhood and while as an adult i rarely use a handheld or venerate pokemon he kept bringing me things i can still love.
Rest In Peace.
I truly hope whomever is named as his replacement works just as hard to push forward Nintendo’s legacy and guiding light through a landscape of mobile game and micro transaction cash grabs.
Damn this is a sad day for the industry. I had no idea the guy was terminal ill. He damn sure didn’t show it, just goes to show what kind of guy he was. like this dude was probably the only gaming CEO that was an actual gamer and loved this industry and the games he and his people made. If anyone should fill his shoes it should be Sakurai. Just damn, RIP Iwata. Thanks for all the fun games and memories those games made.
Miyamoto doesn’t want the responsibility even though it’s been offered to him a few times. He prefers to be closer to the games IIRC. He’ll probably take up the mantle for as long as he can until there’s someone else that wants the position to step in. Hopefully someone who has Iwata’s will with fresh ideas the move the company forward. And by Iwata’s will I mean someone who doesn’t shit on Nintendo’s legacy and has the balls to stand up for what they want despite millions of arm chair CEO’s around the globe shitting on you each day. Way too soon for this guy…R.I.P.
Things about this company will definitely change in the next few years…He came up with Directs and the Iwataasks interviews…I’m quite curious what the next CEO is going to do.
He was terminally ill? Was not expecting this at all…
RIP Iwata.
That soap opera gif of him popping out of the coffin will invoke a different sort of emotion now…
Edit: Man… to think he was doing all those directs and being goofy and having a great time with his direct guests while knowing that he was going to die soon. That level of bravery is just… wow.
I don’t think the Directs are going to go away. Those are pretty popular, and they’re a great way to deliver information.
Iwata Asks worked because Iwata himself was a game dev, so he would know which questions to ask. If they continue that series, it won’t feel the same, but at least the two top execs they have worked closely with games. If they bring in someone from the outside who doesn’t know anything about games, that series is dead.
Why couldn’t his ass have been the one to go? Spent years adding onto all the criticism Iwata took, and now he wants to give him his props when its too late…
interesting interview I didn’t know he was a programmer, designers get all the praise all the time however programmers do all the hard work and make things come to life. I have more respect for programmers than designers honestly
There’s nothing wrong with it. Something very sad has happened. Most of us here have never met Iwata, and I suspect those few of us here who have had contact with him found it very brief indeed, but… he touched all of us in one way or another.
