RIP Billy Mays and X3O...MD/VA post X3O gathering thread

Cool, I’m still trying to come but it’ll be closer to 8:00 now i think

Yah, that’s honestly pretty sad. I hate joining in the action so late. I wish I would’ve been one of those peeps that picked up 3s because of the daigo moment at least

So, evo2k7 was single elimination? Yah, that would make sense since japan has that, and it allows for low tier madness.

I think an amusing thing about 3s is that parrying helps mid/low tier, but it also is their worst enemy when fighting the top 3. Also, what are “GDLK YCKs?” I think the funniest thing about 3s is that the best players dislike the game, and those that love it aren’t at a level to defeat them :wasted: I mean I noticed you and Jinrai went pretty far last year. Hopefully that happens again with even more low tier madness this time.

I do agree that its bad people think the game is just Yun and Chun. I mean not to hop on japan’s dick, but many of them over there have proven otherwise. Not just Kuroda…

SFIV seems like it’s more interesting. I mean I saw a bunch of Vipers in the finals for Devastation, and even El fuerte, lol.

Man, I think the 2/3 format is just too brutal on mid tiers in a game like 3s.

I’m waiting for a J Makoto comeback

GG’s everyone today
hope u guys are hyped now for BB haha

More DevilJin storytime…

It was double elimination but single match. Which for American players is just about as bad as single elimination. You only played one 2/3 round match to decide a winner. No best 2/3 matches. Mad good players like Hsien Chang got knocked out early due to this. It was pretty much do or die. If you died you had a second chance but every fight through the bracket you had one game to prove yourself. 2 lost matches and you were gone. If you lost your first match in winners and had to go straight to the losers bracket I think it was probably the worst feeling in the world for most players. They knew the very next match they played could be their last. Especially for people who were getting their first real world tournament experience.

For an American 3S tourney and a game that in general shifts momentum very quickly it was tough for a lot of players to deal with. Some people were talking about getting their money back before the tournament even started since those weren’t the original rules. We don’t get to play everyday like the Japanese do and then you pay all this money to go to Evo. Especially if it’s your first Evo you don’t wanna hear that you have one game to move up or get knocked into losers. That’s a ton of pressure. Actually what happened to me was I barely lost my very first match and had to beat like 6 people straight from losers to qualify. Including barely beating out Rockerfeller’s Urien who looked at his stick like it was broken when I beat him. It was funny and sad at the same time.

When I finally qualified out of my pool after fighting my 5th Ken player the brackets were reset and everyone was put back in a winner’s bracket for the semis. Played and lost a very good fight vs. Ino’s Makoto. Barely came through with the win in the first round but he came back in the 2nd and 3rd. Gave me a hug after I lost. Best lost I ever had. Beat SpiderTao’s Chun Li (who knocked out Exodus earlier on) and then lost to FiveStar’s Ken. Most fun I had at Evo was probably that year. Good times.

They had like 50 + people sign up at the last second before the tourney started so that was the only way they could accommodate. I on the other hand was really excited that it was single elim seeing I was good with a character that nobody else used. Unless they were really good they were getting beat for free.

Storytime ends…

YCK is an abbreviation for Yun, Chun, Ken. Yeah I did pretty well last year and looking forward to doing well this year as well. It’s not like I’m going to have a top tier player as a partner but I prefer to play that way. I like to see what others can do under pressure and like to test myself. Plus I’m done with taking 3S on a real serious level anymore. SFIV has killed a lot of hype for the game and it’s going to take a lot of work as it is to get good with Viper. I’ll play 3S whenever it’s around to play but outside of entering random tournaments for it I’m just not as dedicated to beating everyone in it as I was years ago. If I do find it in myself to take 3S that seriously again it won’t be till after Evo unfortunately. The experiences (or lack of) that I’ve had with 3S in tournaments leading up to Evo just has me not caring as much for the game. I see so many people playing SFIV and I just see myself wanting to get good at that now. Blazblue is cool too.

Nice stuff. Don’t worry, if we team up…I’ll play the game right. I’m saving the wake up block 100% ready crouch tech and reaction-only reversals for SF4 lol.

I hope people are still hungry for SF4s at C3…the less people, the more I think it will be C-Free . I’ll be playing BB and T6, I’m not really hyped for KoF12 once I saw the roster. How the hell can they take out Yamazaki? He’s like, the only REAL badass in the KoF series.

needs more JB stories on sunday for sure lol

Made a trip to Home Depot and picked up some springs. Added 2 to the SE. Feels alot better. Think I am finally done modding this trash :china:

 R.I.P. MJ

If new characters are added to SFIV, I hope they make Karin viable. Rolento is pretty badass too. Guy would be a nice addition, and I don’t really care about Cody…he isn’t as cool. I would rather have DeeJay.

I thought I could stick with Rose and main her when console dropped, but she’s just unbearably shitty in this game. I guess it’s not so bad, I used to hate Chun before I mained her in SF4 .

RIP Mikey. You are not alone.

Rose will get better in SFIV Dash. Soul Illusion will return.

lol i main Rose. She plays a bit like a big grappler but instead of playing close range you gotta play mid range.

I would like to see some 3s characters. Or maybe some new characters as well.

I like Rose too. She’s fun and got a few tricks…but yeah she has to work for a lot of damage :-/

EDIT- I know it’s a bit early to tell, but how is it looking for sunday? Are there going to be birthdays?

I’m so hungry for some IV, and i’m pretty sure I may have leveled up because of some new stuff i’ve learned. EXCITING! lol

EDIT#2- FUCK! I can’t make it to c3 this month either…so dumb. Will say though, after evo C3 and that scion tourny in rockville. team x30 needs to stand up!

No doubt 355 Rockville Pike will be a force in a few months.

Oh and I just got my replacement Asus Evo monitor in the mail today. Will be bringing that to X3O on Wednesday.

Yo I’m trying to get organized, so if you’ve expressed interest in a dual mod from me, can you post here or PM me?

Thanks

Yo so is everyone going in on next wednesday? I got my paycheck and since richmond I’ve been really slacking, and I want to get practice in. Lets bring some monitors and grind it out.

Doesn’t the 5 dollar thing end by then?

I’ll call them today to see where they stand on the 5 dollar thing. I’m assuming they’ll more than likely run it through the summer since IMO that would be a good business decision for them while people are out of school.

Oh fuck, I didn’t know that was just June. Shit’s gonna start adding up after next week rofl

Well even if they do kill the 5 dollar deal thing at least we have a lot to work with now as far as house sessions. That or work together to find another spot for us.

Again…I haven’t heard anything official and it’d be best to call and make sure first. When I first started going in May I asked if they were continuing it and they said they would continue it throughout June. The manager didn’t necessarily say it would end in June so I’ll call today and find out. Sucks that I didn’t even think about that though. If it truly is going to end in June then we’ll have to do our last blowout day on Tuesday. Bring in Evo monitors and everything.

Jesus christ, what’s the usual price? It must be expensive…
