"Ring Her Out!" - Soul Calibur IV Finals Discussion

     I wasn’t there but $100 says this certain individual is from the 626

I was sad watching the stream. As much as I bicker with Ciernian on the forums, he didn’t deserved to get booed like that. Guy played solid as hell and who GIVES a shit if he or anyone else played Hilde? No one boos top MVC2 players for picking from a 5 character roster, or Diago when he picks Ryu (oh hay look you can’t pick Rufus now because YOU LOSE), yet Hilde’s hated? She loses to Astaroth hard, has trouble with sister/Amy rushdown, and certain stages nigh-cripple her. But we should boo her 'cause…why? It’s cool? We don’t like top-tier characters? It’s like the Smash community with Ice Climbers and wobbling. “OH NOES HE WOBBLES BAN ICE CLIMBERS!” It’s EVO! Play To Fucking Win! Cheese that guy out! Bring that fight money home any way you can, 'cause that’s what you came for!

Good shit, Cedric. Keep ringing people out from two miles away.

Thanks for the praise Hogosha, I had some people come up to me after the finals and let me know they wanted me to win. RTD and myself were quite surprised people had that much animosity to Hilde considering lots of the other games that have characters who can infinite or are incredibly good compared to the rest of the cast. So yeah it was cool talking to other competitive fighting game players who understand that it’s about winning and that you should use any tool you can to achieve that goal (within the rules).

I also want to add that there are only two Hilde players in the entire world who are consistently winning / placing in tournaments. RTD and Ceirnian. I understand that she is an extremely good character, but I hope some of you at least take that into consideration. She is not and has not been dominating the tournament scene at all. The same goes for Algol.

All in all it was a really fun experience, look forward to nationals this saturday so I can get some revenge. The booing gave the game some mad hype so I have no complaints about it. Also Jaha calling me Semen was hilarious in person. “BUST ALL UP IN THEM GUTS!” “FIND THE EGG!” haha good shit. Looking forward to evo 2010

That’s probably because you people who were actually at Evo didn’t have any commentary. We at home got stuff explained to us about what was going on, and I got really into it.

Positioning yourself properly to avoid ring out seems like just another layer of play to me.
Also why would it kill the hype, having someone who almost perfected the other guy, but is now next to the edge is a tense moment. Will he get away from there? Will he get ringed out? That’s hype as well.

Having the opponent down to 1% while you have almost half your bar left and then losing to one move, that kinda sounds like some of my fights against Sagat… But at least I know it’s my fault for not avoiding it, instead of blaming the mechanic.

I don’t know anything about SCIV, but those matches were intense, and the crowd was going crazy with all of the yelling of “ring her out!” some of my buddies and I were very impressed by that Ivy too.

I agree, I was cheering for you Ceir, and when I heard people booing your character selection, I just had to facepalm and realize how scrubby the SCIV community must really be.

Being the “bad guy” at an event isn’t a bad thing. Look at wrestling, sometimes being the bad guy at a particular match, or the least favored fuels matches. Why does everyone want to be the hero anyway? We were booing because it was fun, not because we disrespect Ciernan.

A lot of people booed just to fuel the fire, and I think it did. It made the fight seem like a clash of interest, suddenly people who didn’t give a shit, suddenly gave a shit. I honestly wouldn’t look at it more than that. If Ciernan would have won, people would have still cheered. Maybe not as loudly, but the people were laughing after booing, because it was so ridiculous. Also, the stress of knowing that no matter how good the other guy is Hilde could turn it around at any time, made it very interesting.

I expect the same will happen for V13(Nu) in Blazblue, and V13 players don’t give a shit. Sometimes it’s good to be the bad guy. You think Tony Montana gave a shit? Just pop your collar and move on. Be the upset! Make the crowd go “what!?”, because boos = emotional investment in a game most consider a yawnfest. I would consider that an achievement.

SC4 was the best.

Team AZ was over on the side chanting “Ring Out” louder than anyone else. Then we started to cheer everytime the SC cround booed.

Dont forget the “Throw Her” shit. OMG its so dumb with ppl just standing infront of eachother pressing buttons.

Fuck that game.

Umm no… KDZaster also wins pretty much every tournament he wins with Hilde… He made a concious decision NOT to play Hilde during EVO because he likes being the “hero”. And not playing Hilde, kicking ass with Cassandra, beating BOTH you and RTD… that made him a “hero”. He wanted to prove that he didn’t need Hilde to win.

Anyway, I am going through the brackets for SC4 and I see a TON of players whome have no records or ties to the Soulcalibur community… If you are on this list, and you are reading this post, I invite you to join the Soulcalibur community at 8WayRun.Com. If you do make an account, please leave a message stating who you are on this list.

Even after what I showed in the EVO finals, people still think the game is shallow, scrubby, and has no hope with Hilde being around?

…damn, that’s just sad.

I do appreciate, more than anything, the players who watched the finals attending Evo. Their shout of “KDZ! KDZ!” was 100% the loudest hype out of all the finals at Evo, and I hope I gave them the best time I could.

If you weren’t there, YJDK.
If you were there, it’s like that.

yeap, if anything, ringouts make the game more intense and provide the “OH SHIT” moment just like an ultra that connects does in SF4

Wait wtf? I was behind him lol. Since I had no idea Hilde was considered cheap, I assumed everyone, at least in my column, were cheering for Hilde to ring Cassandra out . Funny as fuck though, and yeah, you’d hear random screaming of “This game sucks!” every couple minutes.

pirate beard eh?

i like that.

heres to calibur getting the boot next year!

Yo this kid was the only reason we started the RING HER OUT! chant. Shit was too good. I was rooting for Omega, especially after that beast critical finish. All until he got gayed on random select with the smallest fucking ring out stage in the game. After that we just decided to go against the crowd of boos to increase the hype.

I don’t even like Soul Calibur and haven’t played since two, but that shit was entertaining to watch for sure.

Good shit Calibur!!! Ring her out!!! lol

Lollll this guy was so awesome.

I was sitting behind you with Mike/thxyoutoo. The whole room knew that fool was a bitch

semis/finals were entertaining, sweep was huge for the cassy except against the french ivy. seemed to block every one. best player won for sure. and there was a lot of stage love vs hilde towards the end, i was loving it

Hilde is clearly a bitch.

And Hilde players are bitch ass bitches.

=P

Oh, snap! I only clicked on this thread because I recently played SCIV for the first time in months, and re-discovered that it’s actually a lot of fun to play. Now, here’s hoping I can watch the finals match sometime soon, because it sounds ridiculously awesome.

…And there I go, wasting my first actual post on a game that I don’t actually play on a competitive level…yet.

P.S. - A toast, to lurkers who sign up and then make their first post 4 months later! >_<

Edit - Though, as it turns out, this is actually my third post and my memory is getting progressively worse.

I was actually having fun watching the match. A lot of times I started to catch on to the way the game was being played and how people were so crazy over the raft stage.

Looks like that stage might have a lot of ring…out…

but who cares right? Its not like its a surprise or anything. Ring Outs have been in the game forever, if there was a huge problem with it - it would have been taken out years ago.

Great job guys, really fun finals.
