You don’t really need to travel. Tekken is the easiest game to get good and then get elite at. The hardest part is learning to block all the random characters’ bullshit. That’s why new faces become dominators all the time in Tekken.
Also explains why non arcade hotspots pop up and become elite in tekken.

I’ve been around for quite some time sir. I played in T4 tournaments at Gametime with ChiYeh and Fetz way back in the day. I remember when Bill was good at tekken. Etc. Etc. I know things.
ATL and TX aren’t known for strong arcade scenes, and especially not on the level of SoCal and NYC. TX has two arcades now, but they haven’t always been there.
Also, Jinmaster placed top 8 at EVO for T5 in 2006, despite living in SOVA/VA at the time. Not exactly a “arcade hotspot” if you ask me.
Traveling and whatnot gets you better at any game, for sure… But as long as you not playing button mashers, you can get pretty good at Tekken without much comp.
Fuck tiptoeing, I’m gonna come out and say it:

Especially when the particular tekken is very “launch then go to training mode” friendly like T5.0 (or from what I’ve seen T6.0) or it’s “just mash 8f jab and kill everyone” like T4.
It’s not a huge difference, but it certainly is there.
It wouldn’t even be close to an argument if Namco didn’t start putting in Stupid Just frames as an artificial degree of difficulty barrier.
