Man, if only!
Splitting up the player pool doesn’t seem like a great idea. We are real lucky to have venues that let us have setups. If you start diverting people away from these events, the bar loses money, and eventually, no more games at the bar.

I’ll say right now I’d rather support Danny and Cary St Cafe before going to a ranbat session on the same night. There needs to be a big consistent turnout for ranbats to even be worth it anyway. Casuals and people hosting on odd days at odd times of the week are more appealing to me anyway. I don’t want any money.
It’s not about money and as long as we can get people to come out fine. Also, I’ll still go to as many events as possible (if i can get a ride) and not trying to be anti-restaurant or anything. I’m just saying that people are willing to host and we can have multiple setups, lets be open to change from time to time. It’s boring when we only have 1 setup and at least 8+ people at SM or Cary St. (Though beer helps) At that point, we’re not playing to get better but to stay on the sticks at all cost. You don’t really get to practice setups or try out more characters or you get bodied. Remember, it’s all about trying to get everybody better.
I wouldn’t mind putting up $5 for bi-weekly ranbats. I’m still new to this scene, but if we advertised the fact that we’ll be hosting bi-weekly ranbats with decent prizes on the line and we’ll have streaming equipment set up, wouldn’t that attract out-of-state players that would be willing to compete, also? If the host charges venue fee, we should be able to meet those requirements w/o a problem if what we have going on appeals to plenty of players who are interested in coming out on a consistent basis. I’m not sure how intricate the details are, but I think this would be a good start in increasing the amount of dedicated players if we can make it possible.
Right now, Thursday’s are best for me. I’ll be able to at least make it out every week on that day. When Summer starts up, I’m outta class and have a lot more free time to come out to sessions/events and what not. By the way, how long are you guys staying at the Cafe tonight?
*Edit: Okay, if we set up bi-weekly ranbats and we’re charged for venue fees, do you think that $1 or $2 from each person would be feasible?
You’re right, Matt. It might be the motivation people need to come out more. And if it’s bi-weekly or monthly that’d work. I’m all for the idea, I just hope my own schedule permits me to participate.
Alright. Well first of all having a restriction to an age already weakends the community. Cary Street only has one set up and has an age restriction. If this can be lifted I’d be more than happy to have it there if two of these things changed. We are streaming on my lap top and want to get a competitive Richmond scene. I am an OG like Robin and have a wealth of knowledge, experience and dedication. Having Cary Street or SM to be honest with you won’t make you better or give u the drive to get better. Tournaments are on weekends and most people have jobs. So we have to have a common day to get together and have sessions without restrictions. 5 dollars is fine more a bi-weekly Matt.
-I vote for either Wednesday or Thursday
-Also you can go to SM or Cary street whenever you want not going there one day isn’t not supporting them. Having a ranbat Bi-weekly is not a problem at all.
-If your serious about getting better you won’t want to miss out on these Ranbats, if you do, then your not serious about getting better. If your just trying to have fun and dick around go to casuals at SM or Cary Street
-Fighting games are fun, but ultimately you want to get better and place well at big tournaments and not be a pot donater.
-I feel like with the exception of Matt Jordan, Adam and Andrew and even Otaku Kid (Matt) and Chris the community isn’t making an effort to get better and/or go to bigger tournaments. If you want to get better, Learn from losing, train hard, watch match videos, view forums and play good competition. Playing online, going to non-competitive venues are not going to help.
The reason Maryland, Nova, Sova, Ohio, Florida, New york gets better because they have local tournaments and ran bats. We need this
Cary Street Cafe goes from 8-1:30, there will be 2 setups from 8-10:00, then just 1 from 10-1:30. Enigma, I didnt think you were hating on bars at all =). Too bad, though. Its just more comp. that cant make it =(
I take offense to this. I’ve been playing a lot, trying to improve, and promoting meet ups and events going on in our community a lot lately.
Really? What’s the age restriction?
I think that the Console Combat headline article is quite ironic considering the current topic of this thread.
yeah 21 and up after 9
NOOOOOOO! That really sucks. How am I supposed to get anything accomplished in an hour? Nah, we have to get this lifted somehow. I doubt I can pass off as a 21 year old.
Sorry the bar has an age restriction, I know you roll with some younger company and being excluded sucks. Cary Street has bee open for 14 years and that has always been there policy. Again, sorry about that, it sucks. I totally agree with you Moose, getting together in person is waaay better practice, and I hope to make it to more meet ups in the future. I wasn’t trying to say that if you dont come to bar, then you dont support the bar, I would like to make that clear. The one setup we have late-night @ CS takes up a whole booth. A booth sits 4 people. If I have a setup that no one is playing, the bar sees that as four customers that could be seated there. Goodbye setup. Wed.'s would be great! I would definitely like to participate
alright guys calm down I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes i just polled everyone and most people were saying that thursday was the best day. i don’t know what to do i was trying to do something good for the community and help us level up and i figured streaming it would be fun also so other communities can see what we are doing and maybe they will come out to a couple of them every now and then. Also it will give us recorded match videos to critique ourselves. No one wants to do it on weekends or fridays and wednesdays interfere with xanadu. I’m not trying to offend anyone just wanted to do something cool
Yeah Chronos, I think what you guys want to do is super awesome! for reals, super awesome. Im not freaking about this, and im in no way offended. And guess what? You are doing something cool. If Thursdays are the only night that it can happen, then its the only night it can happen. its just too bad no other night works.
I just want as many people to come out every two weeks as possible but i don’t wanna split up the community
on another note, does anyone have any sticks for 360 that they want to sell? Know anybody? Thank you
Ditto. Also you can’t say that if people don’t come they aren’t interested in improving. Thursdays are hard for to make as it is and the summer Will make that worse. I would think that Sunday’s would appeal to the widest audience. What, are we watching football?
Not this coming season!
