First trailer for my favorite fighting game, Third Strike, has finally been released! It looks amazing, and with GGPO and Youtube match sharing, this game is coming back hard. Can’t wait to get my hands on it this Summer!
I’m actually surprised it’s coming out this early though. I thought Capcom was just going to let AE gain exposure for the next couple of months, and then release 3rd Strike late Fall or early Winter. Oh well, I’m not complaining at all.
Another Handheld with a Pricepoint Identical to a console. Ironically a good lineup of console ports of fighting games is more likely to make me buy one than Nathan Drake.
True. Although the PSVita does look decent, I won’t be rushing out to buy one just yet. Handheld wise, I’m still really interested in the 3DS and it’s future lineup. I still gotta pick one up for the release of Ocarina of Time. I’m looking forward to Nintendo’s conference.
What do you have against 3S? The game is overall solid. I guess it won’t appeal to anybody if they hate the Parry System, though. Other than that, I don’t really see a reason.
Well, the parry system pretty much ruins the mental game of 3S at mid-high levels. Why bother coming up with solutions to problems when you can just guess your way out. I played a lot of the game in the PS2 days. More than enough to give a decent opinion of the game, unlike nova kids and MvC3.
At low levels, 3S is pretty fun if you remove Chun. Most of the characters do fine if she’s not around, and people will have fun with the game. I suspect 98% of the people that are like “OMG 3S is back yo!” are at this level. If they’re happy, I won’t shit on their parade too much.
Mid to High level is where the game starts getting less fun. Zoning, Footsies, and Poking become one and the same (since fireballs are worthless, you have to “zone” with stuff like shoto low forward and sweep), and everything becomes subject to “random parry”. So much so that you need to cater your game around it, and your offense becomes O/S parries, throws, and jabs. Lose enough tournament matches because “he hit down instead of forward and I got hit for 40%”, and you will learn to hate this game.
I got good enough to get to the point of option select parries (like SGGK w/ Chun). That stupidity really ruins any kind of high level mental games. Why even bother playing when you can input a jump cancelable normal, parry, and throw all at the same time?
I also have talked to Eric Kim and Khang about this kinda thing. They say the game gets really fun when elites are playing. When two people are running O/S’s, punishing O/S’s, and baiting O/S’s, the mental game comes back.
I think that’s way too much work to acheive a meta game that’s more advanced than
"I should have hit forward instead of down and I would have won"
